Current mood:  stoked
Jam On Tuesday was invited to join the Circle of Faith Tour, a group of
cyclists who are riding throughout SA (they'll be covering over 5000 km of
South African roads by the end of their tour) in an attempt to raise funds
for bicycles for missionaries and bibles for families who don't own one. The
tour commenced on Monday 31st August and their first weekend stop of 4th and
5th of September was to be in Kimberley. The point of our joining the tour
was to perform a free concert for all interested Kimberley-ans!!

We left Jozi on Friday morn and took almost 7 hours to drive in what
should've been around a 5 hour journey. Grim roadworks along the N12 were
the order of the day, but they did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of our
"lil adventure". The boyz played frisbee on the road during our travel
interruptions ... even the excessive heat did nothing to deter them!!!

No sooner had we arrived in the "thriving metropolis" of Kimberley, than we
were ferreted off to the local AOG and forced to eat a cracking meal of KFC
... just what the doctor had prescribed!! With dinner out the way we were
rushed off to a really happening Afrikaans church, where we got the
opportunity to play a short "teaser" to the youth who had assembled there as
an advert for the "real thing" which was to take place at The Potter's Hand
church the following day. We had a great evening!! We met some dynamic,
interesting peeps and were riveted by the testimony brought by former
provincial cricket player, Vic Vermeulen. He told us all about what God's
done and is busy doing in his life since becoming a quadriplegic. I reckon
not a single soul left the building unchallenged by what went down!!

Saturday saw us heading over to Potter's Hand around midday to set up for a
3 p.m. gig. After ironing out some serious sound-check issues, we managed to
play a really rocking gig where all the problem sound issues seemed to have
disappeared. I reckon the Lord came through for us in a big way, 'cos we
were REALLY battling with the building's acoustics!! Our loops never even
let us down, so ROCK ON PRO TOOLS!!! The feedback we received came AFTER the
gig only (none during, which is always a godsend!!) and was so encouraging.
We made some awesome new contacts from "die groot gat" as well as from folk
who'd come down from Jozi.

We're trusting that God accomplished what He had in mind through the tour
and we were just totally stoked to have been a part of it all!! All glory to
HIM!!

Watch this space for the next enthralling episode!

South African Band Joins Canadian Coalition

South African Band, Jam On Tuesday, joins forces with musicians from around the world to fight child poverty.

Kitchener, Ont., Canada, August 03, 2007 --(PR.com)-- South Africa's Jam On Tuesday is one of sixteen international artists with a music video featured on the new Worldview website www.worldview.ca in the hope of ending extreme child poverty once and for all.

The SAMA nominated band comprises: Gill Persson - lead vocals and rhythm guitar. Lorens Persson - drums. Guillaume Mouton - bass guitar and backing vocals. Kurt Slabbert - lead and rhythm guitar and backing vocals.

In addition to allowing the use of their music video for "Coming Back", lead singer Gill Persson shares her thoughts about child poverty on the site. Her plea for compassion for some of the world's poorest children ends with the question "Why don't you consider doing what you can to sponsor one of these incredible gifts?"

Worldview is a volunteer movement based in Canada that teaches about child sponsorship and encourages radical generosity. It is not a charity and it doesn't accept donations.

To all interested parties out there ... if you wanna know why this site is gonna become suddenly, painfully, eerily quiet, it's because we are going away!!!! Yes, that's right, and NO, it's not to tour South Africa with the band, it's purely recreational, you know, sort of like a vacation, a get-away-from-it-all break, a tearing away from the oppression of Jozi for a little while trip ... two weeks in total ... in search of some sun and some serious rest!!!!

This blog serves, therefore, to offer apologies to those unfortunate folk who will not have taken the time to read this blog and who would otherwise have known that we're away and that there will be no-one manning the Myspace site, so they will be leaving comments and messages in vain ... at least two weeks in vain!!

Our apologies then go to those who do not read the blog and who message/comment us and do not receive a prompt reply from us ... sorry for you!!!!!!!

Hope you all have yourselves a great time while we're away and be sure to keep us posted on our return!!!

Peace out!

So we didn't ask for it and we didn't even know that the org existed but hey, whoever said that the internet is a bad thing was only half right ... the other half of that statement is completely incorrect!!!

We were contacted by Canadian, Stephen Jarnick, who had posted an invitation on his Myspace site to the effect that musos are welcome to submit their music vids for possible inclusion in the Worldview launch (check out their website: www.worldview.ca). This org has aligned itself with the likes of U2's Bono in the fight to make poverty history. Stephen said that he'd seen our music vid and wondered whether we'd be interested in allowing Worldview to use it as part of their launch. Dahhhhh!!!!!! What a question??!!!

We told him we'd give it some serious consideration ... nahhh we didn't, we told him we'd be totally stoked for it to be included!! Which got us onto thinking about what we could do to make a difference out there. Here in South Africa we are faced with poverty practically on a daily basis, which has the tendency to harden one's levels of compassion. This does nothing to alleviate the situation, nor does it do anything to challenge our own hearts and motives, so we've decided that as a band and as individuals we will do everything in our power to join forces with the likes of these compassionate folk.

They are looking for people to sponsor a child, an innocent victim in the war of poverty, and so we ask each of you who gets to read this blog to check out their website and see how you can get involved in helping to win this indiscriminatory battle!!!

Thanks for your support!!!!

Keeping the passion always!

Just returned from a surreal experience @ Sun City where the SAMAs were THE EVENT of the weekend ... reeling just a little from the whole experience ... pretty mind-blowing stuff ... so well organised & too much bling for shades to have any impact at all!!!

So we didn't actually win the SAMA but we reckon that making it to the top 3 in our category is something to get excited about! MiC took the award from us but since they're such a cool bunch of dudes we thought it prudent not to fight them for it!! Besides, they joined our table for dinner so we at least got to see the award ... to actually hold it ... and feel it ... and give it back to them!! Well done to the boys ... we look forward to pipping them to the post next time!!

Suffice it to say it's grand to be home ... my bed's always more comfy than a foreign one ... the weekend will go down in history as SUPERBLY MEMORABLE!

Over and out!

We didn't quite make the SAMA nominations ceremony last Thursday ... that's just the thing about life in JOZI, it's all just too hectic!! Our sound man, Theo, made it and said it was a sick evening, really well organised and festive, so BIG-UPS to the organisers and sponsors, MTN!!!

It was only after a phone call from my brother, David, the coolest parody writer Radio Jacaranda has ever known, called us from the station to congratulate us on our nomination ... we were still pretty dumb-founded after the call and only totally believed him after we hooked up the list of nominees from the SAMusic website for ourselves. Thanks Dave, you weren't pulling one of your sick jokes on us for a change ... this was a "for real" nomination.

To say we're still reeling from the excitement of it all would be a huge understatement (what's the opposite of a hyperbole again?...) Just to be nominated is grand news ... especially for an unsigned act like ourselves ... there's gotta be only one source that we can look to for this and that's the One that we're doing this all for: our King, Jesus!! We are so stoked and give Him all the glory for it!!!

Right now we're just living it loud & strong!!!

Hope your week's as shocking as ours has been!!

The date was Friday 16th Feb, the time was around 8h30 pm and the place was Tanz Cafe, Bryanston. This was Cedar Light's evening but the dudes graciously allowed us to jam alongside them on their evening. The place was neatly packed with a good balance of band members, roadies and supporters from both sides (although I do believe the scales tipped just a little more in our favour :) Jam on Tuesday supporters rule ... esp all the NCCB dudes ... BIG UPS 2 U!!!!!!!!!!

We went with a couple of unplugged tunes to begin with ... deviating hectically from our usually noisy overlode mode. In a place like Tanz this was a pretty good move judging by the crowd response so wha'd'ya say boys? Reckon we can actually do an entire unplugged set? Probably doable but will need a little more time to work on the arrangement side of things ... watch this space!!!

We ended off the eve with a couple of loud trax before we put our gear to bed. We were happy with the gig and grateful to the crowd for a great response!!

Cedar Light is one cool act too ... really enjoyed meeting and getting to know them so keep fighting the good fight boys (and hick drummer ... way cool!!!!) ... you're gonna do really well!!!

As for Tanz, it's gotta be one of the best local music venues Jo'burg has to offer so "RESPECT" to you Grant & Pat  ... you've got an awesome vibe going!

Feel free to leave comments once you've finished reading this ... makes it seem less one-sided :)

Keeping it real and looking forward to our COOL RUNNINGS & BACK2BASIX gigs in March,

Gill

So there we were back at The Nile Croc, Pretoria on Saturday night for the first time this year :) The place was pretty quiet when we arrived (around 8 pm) and we reckoned it was gonna be us and "The Kick" who would crowd out the place for each other :) Fortunately by 9, which is when The Kick went on stage, the place had begun to fill up a bit more :) Yeeehaaa!!

The Kick did their thing really well :) they're a tight unit who play old school rock with some cutting edge time signatures :) Big ups to you boys!!

We played after The Kick and did our usual energetic set to a fair sized crowd :) Thanks for being there CROWD !!!! Thoroughly enjoyed the set although Giom struggled with a distorting bass amp so not such a hot one for him! Had some really cool comments after our set though so we went home chuffed:)

After us it was "Red House" who came up from Durbs and who remind you of "The Finks". "Death Valley Blues Band" completed the line-up :) we didn't get to see them but sure they rocked!

The guys running the place are still so cool:) Big-ups to Kobus, resident sound man, for doing such a great job with such a cool attitude:)

Advice to bands playing at The Nile:) If you wanna order food there, make sure you eat pizza (cos that's all they serve) and place your order at least 1.5 hours before you reckon you're gonna be ridiculously ravenous cos that's how long our order (of 4 pizzas) took :) Don't say you haven't been warned!!!

Peace out!

Keeping it real and rocking:)
