December 8th and 9th at the Drill Hall in London there will be two performances of Sue Frumin's "The Mermaid and the Moustache," a new play I am helping develop (as an actor).

http://www.drillhall.co.uk/pl312.html

"The Mermaid and The Moustache explores that undefined land between the lines, where gender ends and strange tails begin.

An unnamed woman finds her legs fusing into a fish's tail as a response to ageing in an uncompassionate world.

Unable to comprehend this strange phenomenon, she starts to travel in the company of the aristocratic transgender charmer "Lucky" Byers.

The Mermaid and The Moustache is an exploration in music, words and visual images of situations beyond dreams and beyond gender limitations.
These performances are part of our Under Construction programme. This gives artists and audiences the opportunity to discuss work that is in its early stages of development.

Both performances will be followed by a discussion with the audience.
All tickets £7"

--We want to hear what you think! The play is in development and needs your voices to help it grow!

Cheers!

Monday I did an interview for the local Public Radio station CKUT, on the program "Queer Corps." Have a listen for more info about me and the new show:

In the pull down menu chose the program "queer corps" and then select the show on March 10th. My interview starts just before the 16 minute mark....

So I´m typing one handed today after a techical misshap onstage last night at the porn film festival. please forgive....

i was onstage with a real knife, a no'no in regular old theatre land, but in fetish shows pratically de rigeur...

at the end of my first show i pulled a balloon of glitter out of me, blew it up and popped it over my head with the knife ' which then plunged into my left wrist...

offstage, i felt my fingers go numb and thought ' ive really fucked up now... nerves, tendons...

but the stage crew taped me up and i managed to do the second show... more old school theatre training , ´the show must go on...´well some theatre training is more valuable than others i guess !

afterwards the assesment was hospital. three lovely festival folks took me and unlike london or the states i was seen in 20 minutes, and asured i´d not severed anything important... three stitches later feeling stupid they took me to my hotel...

still can´t feel my fingers, but they all move (painfully), so i am feeling full of dumb luck...

i think i will reasess that show.... i hope they enjoyed it...!

moral of the story? still workin that one out.... back to oldschool theatre training? don´try this at home? Your moral here................

By all accounts, today is the real beginning of 2008.. last week was all about recovering from the holidays - whatever excesses we all indulged in or experienced... so, the new year, aught-eight, BRING IT ON!

I've got a busy one, myself.

Upcoming Shows so far:

Sunday, January 27th - The Pigalle Club:

RUBADUB SOCIAL CLUB
The Rubadub Social Club with Mr Meredith, The Chilly Boom Show, Beatrix Von Bourbon, Rajesh the Bollywood Lounge Singer and Stella Plumes. Followed by an original swing/jazz/rockabilly performance by the incredible but mildly demented Hooverville before DJ Come Lately gets those feet a-tappin'.

more info: http://www.vpmg.net/pigalle/

Sunday February 24th -Club Wotever Celebrates LGBT history month with a Cabaret at the Horse Hospital - details to come

March 10th-14th, teaching physical theatre/burlesque and cabaret workshops in Montreal, QC for the Edgy Women (?!?!) Festival AND:

Saturday March 15th in Montreal I will premiere my new show:

"Madame Pierre's Other Tongue"

A Surrealist Cabaret about Cunning Linguists

~Madame Pierre~ is your Cabaret Chanteur/Chanteuse host who will take you on a multi-lingual journey of discovery of sex and gender and the joys of other tongues.

The show includes live singing and lipsync, physical theatre and genderfuck from a queer cabaret/burlesque transman's point of view

details will be here:

I'm booking gigs in NYC as well for the week of March 20-27. Details to follow....

I'm also lecturing at Central School of Speech and Drama on "The Queer Explicit Body," and intend to do more academic stuff this year. Any professors out there reading this? And am planning on starting a Ph.D next year if all goes well...

And sorting myself out, overall, but that's another story entirely....

Whew! Feel free to contact me if any of this is of interest/curiosity to you....

Current mood:  thoughtful

Yes, it is. Boy, is it. Trash, that is...

Looked at in one way, the article is quite offensive. And completely misrepresents me. But I expected that. Not even really worth talking about the inaccuracies and the mainstream het assumptions (like testosterone tablets and the idea that my partners and I cannot have "full sex" together. Full sex, for "Love It" writers and readers STILL cannot happen without the presence of a cock).

But this is old news. I can't be bothered to rant and rave about it, I don't care  for myself and I'm certainly not surprised. What is surprising, I think, is how far behind the mainstream culture is, or at least how far behind "Love It!" magazine THINKS it is. And I'm sure they've spent lots of time and money assessing what their readership wants.

On that level it's too bloody bad. If they were willing to take just a small risk, to tell just a bit more of the truth,  two things might happen for their readership: 1, they might learn something more accurate about some of the FTM experience, and 2, they might recognize themselves, or something about themselves, in the truthful experiences of the three of us.

Instead, what the readership has been given is a pretty sympathetic, but sensational and misrepresenting bit of brain(?) candy. Like a chocolate chip caramel covered granola bar. Pretending to be real food, but just as junky as a Mars Bar.

I knew fairly soon after I said yes that I would not be represented, that I am just playing a character role of an FTM with details that sound a bit like mine. I thought it was funny, and I knew it could not hurt me. It's still funny, looked at in many ways, and it doesn't hurt me, but I do find myself feeling a bit of sadness for... what.. a bit of a lost opportunity for the "Love It!" readers... Ah well. It's a step, toward the right direction, if not in it.

And they say I'm now a male stripper for "hords of screaming women..." Hmmph. Lazlo as Chippendale? Well. There are worse images...!!

The mainstream will always be behind all of us who cannot, will not, choose not to, live within it, eh?

Thoughts?
