Onward and upward for the old gloss... we've been having some really interesting conversations with some really interesting people over the last few weeks. So much so that we've secured a very cool surprise guest DJ for our 6th anniversary party next month. We're going to do our best to keep the cover at $5, but I don't think that's going to happen as we'll have a very large bill to pay. If it's $7, just know that it will be worth the extra $2. And no, we aren't saying who it is... you'll just have to come celebrate with us to find out.

I used to have a recurring dream where the music would end while I was DJing and I'd be hunting for something to play - all the while listening to people converse and mumble about where the music is. Well, I had a different dream recently and I found out that Michael was having the same one. Essentially, we're playing our respective sets and when we got to put on another song we realize that there are no more songs to play - we've played our entire collection and we've still got the rest of the night to go (in Michael's dream, he said he only had one CD for the whole night (there's a really good Marky Ramone joke in there, btw)). It's not hard to see, it's our way of being torn between playing the older shit that people will always request and dance to and playing newer stuff that people say we never play but then never respond to when we actually do play it (and I call bullshit on that, BTW. We each introduce at least one new song every week. At least.)

We bought a projector and so I've been downloading some public domain movies... man, there's some great shit out there. If you happen to get to Lipgloss tonight for the re-introduction of the projector - please enjoy "Santa Claus Conquers The Martians". Also, don't forget, we're giving away Morrissey tickets. Oh, and we're giving away tickets to see Greg Proops saturday night at Comedy Works. And we're doing a listening party for Maximo Park.

I was offered tickets from the Onion to see Elvis Costello on Sunday night. I'm not sure if I'll take them yet - but I would love to see EC.

Lastly, this game is WAAAAAAAAY too addictive. I don't think I've ever regretted finding a game until I found this one. I can't even bring it up at work any more because the minute I do the rest of the world has lost me for a half an hour.

You know, I was probably due for a fuck up. That's the benefit of being a DJ who does live mixing and sound creation, or using a computer and running 10 tracks at once, no one notices too much if you hit the wrong button because you have a backup sound running - but I don't DJ like that... on the scale of:

SELECTOR ------------------------------ SUPERSTAR BEAT MATCHING DJ

I'd say I land about here:

SELECTOR --|--------------------------- SUPERSTAR BEAT MATCHING DJ

The result of being the mildly proficient DJ artist that I am and running only one live track at a time is that when I accidentally hit the eject button on the CD player that's presently playing Soft Cell's "Sex Dwarf" to 650+ people and there's many seconds of silence... people tend to notice. The seconds stretch to hours and I think I was paralyzed with fear while I waited for the digital turntable to load the CD back in and pick up from where it left off. There were people taking pictures there all night, namely The Rocky Mountain News (we'll be in it on Friday) and Danny and Nina (google it) and I can't express to you how thankful I am that no one was taking a picture of my dumb ass during those silent moments... I'd imagine it looked sort of like GW sitting in the classroom on 9/11 except with more surprise because I didn't have government agencies informing me that a fuck up was imminent.

So, there's my 3 or 4 seconds of horror surrounded by a shit hot night. My God it's great to see Denver haunting the streets again. And not only are you showing up, you're really making a happening of it... I don't know that we've ever had crowds in the winter that have been as enthusiastic.

This Friday, Apples In Stereo listening party with guest DJ John Hill of the Apples. It's a big deal for us.... hope it's a big deal for you.

Denver3 is is excited to bring you a midnight showing of Evil'>http://www.evilaliensthemovie.co.uk/">Evil Aliens this Wednesday night at the Esquire'>http://www.landmarktheatres.com/market/Denver/EsquireTheatre.htm">Esquire Theatre.

This showing is before the UK film is premeired in NYC, LA, Telluride, or anywhere else in the United States.  The national premiere was in Denver at the packed-out midnight movie last Saturday, and if you missed it, Denver3 is giving you the opportunity to see it at the discounted ticket price of $4!  Many thanks to http://www.myspace.com/esquiremidnights ">Midnight Madness Matt for making this possible!

If you are a fan of the Evil Dead films, Peter Jackson films (Dead Alive, Meet the Feebles), Shaun of the Dead, or any other splat-stick, black-comedy, gore-horror fests then this one will have you shocked and laughing at the same time!  I for one can't WAIT to see it again (especially to try and catch more of the delicously subtle homages that director Jake West has put in the film).

A trailer for the film is below!  See you Wednesday night at the movies!

(BTW, the official website says the DVD release is this month...the studio has informed us that that information is wrong.  It is not until March of next year, so if you don't see this now, you may not get to until then!)

title or description Denver3.com is pleased to announce the live appearance of the Trashcan Sinatras at Lipgloss as the make their way across North America in support of their latest album, "Weightlifting". The show will be followed by Denver's favorite Brit-pop, Indie, Glam, Soul and Rock night, Lipgloss, of which cover is included in the ticket price. Advance tickets are availlable online through Ticketweb.com. BIO In the ‘90’s Trashcan Sinatras strummed their way onto college and alternative radio and smirked their way into our ears and hearts. Thought by many to be the next Smiths, (but with a Scottish flair), it seemed the band were heading for the top. With their intricate, driving melodies and woeful lyrics, the unlikely pop stars quickly gathered a dedicated following. However, after producing 3 acclaimed albums on GO! DISCS, the band’s momentum was stalled when GO! DISCS went bust - just as Simon Mayo made their cover of “To Sir With Love” from A Happy P ocket, (unreleased in the USA) his record of the week on BBC Radio 1. After GO! DISCS went down, the tax man arrived, and sadly, financial ruin knocked; making music, not money, had been their mission. Although the coffers had been emptied, the band retained their belief in each other and the music. A period of sober self-reflection followed, punctuated by odd gigs in Japan, America, and here and there (mostly there). They were left with just the music...and their dedicated fans the who refused to accept the last encore as final. By selling CD’s on their website and by a Scottish Arts Council grant, the band self-financed the recording of their new album, WEIGHTLIFTING. The album was mixed by Andy Chase (from the band IVY) and was mastered by Scott Hull at the legendary Hit Factory. (While in NYC, the band was in residence at the infamous Chelsea Hotel. The diary of those days is on the website and is great “Trainspotters” material). Listening to this album, it’s immediately apparent that these are not disposable, fluffy pop songs; they are powerful, moody and haunting stories with memorable melodies and words...proving once again that pop can be a successful vehicle for life’s poignant messages. From the uplifting title track, to “Trouble Sleeping” - John’s story of murder in a country lane, and Paul’s moving vision of “What Women Do To Men,” these new songs are the remedy for a sadly ailing genre. There’s even a friendly undertaking with fellow Scotsman, Norman from Teenage Fanclub, who added vocals to “Got Carried Away”. In 2003, the band tried to quietly sneak back onstage to perform some old and new favourites, but hungry fans gobbled up tick ets in droves. F ebruary’s sold out Glasgow gig set the pattern, and was followed by a series of four sold out, acoustic shows at Brel, an intimate venue in their adopted home town of Glasgow . The term “remarkable” applies, because fans swarmed in from the USA, Mexico , Canada, Japan, Germany, England, Wales and even Edinburgh, to applaud the return of the band. F estivals followed, such as The Burns Festival in Ayr, The West End Festival in Glasgow and The Edinburgh Festival. The Edinburgh show in August had The Sunday Mail reviewer exclaiming, “After a spell away from the limelight, the Trashcan Sinatras are back – refreshed, confident and playing at their heartfelt best.” While in New York to finish Weightlifting, the lads also played an amazing acoustic set at FEZ. Tickets sold out within 24 hours without any advertising. Fans swooned, requests were shouted, hearts were stopped, but more importantly, the band was back performing their songs in America. The momentum continues into 2004..a BBC Radio 2 session, constant airplay on KCRW in L.A. and on BBC Radio, a gig at Valencia University in Spain, a headline spot at The Barcelona Festival, 2 gigs at London’s Bush Hall, a sell out KCRW “Morning Becomes Eclectic” show at the L.A. Troubadour followed by an in-studio session on KCRW the same day, a Yahoo “Launch” video shoot, a Rolling Stone interview and several shows during SxSW in Austin. Billboard magazine had the band in two of their writers’ Top 10 acts at SxSW. The influential UK publication Hit Sheet wrote…“one of the finest performances we witnessed at SxSW.” While in Austin, the band ran into the godfather of British DJs, (Bob Harris of BBC Radio 2 & 6, and custodian of “The Old Gray Whistle Test”). They handed him a promo copy of “Weightlifting” and within 24 hours he was playing it on his show. “I hope its going to be a massive album” said Bob on his show, “it’s an absolute gem.” Fast forward to June, where the band have been asked by STUART MURDOCH of BELLE AND SEBASTIAN to play with them in Glasgow’s West End Festival. They will be going on stage immediately before B & S. Expect 10,000 deliriously happy people. So yes...The Trashcan Sinatras are back. They’ve even opened a bank account. A great weightlifting.
