----It that High-pressure time of year again Lovelies, time for the
SAN FRANCISCO FINALS. It's about to go down in a major way for The

Judges chosen from the audience!

----There has been a lot of speculation about who will make the team,
and as of our last chance slam "Double Dribble," on May 18th, the
steaks have just spiked to a new high. Our hats are off to Matt
Blesse who blazed the stage to a win. Also qualifying with him for
Finals are be Jen G, and Leigh Ann.

----BIG Slam love to Stephen Meads who took the win by force in the
May 11th show that was so wonderful and full of warm, old school
feeling. Sheba gave an endearing masterful performance and Jared gave
a wondrous delivery of high consciousness and tender words.

What a Wonderful Night of poetry! The last San Francisco Slam was a SOLD OUT SHOW!!!J Because of the great success of the last show the SF City Slam will get to stretch its legs in the "Big Theater" inside Voice Factory. The night was hot and crowded but full of enough exuberant displays of talent to keep you comfy. The experimental mic was a masterful showcase of a broad range of different art forms. Iyoka's astounding feature performance was an emotional, intelligent, and private explosive gift of darkness and laughter that will be forever in our hearts and hands. The show was toped off with the sassafras sounds of singer Valerie Troutt. The pure and thoughtful nature of her performance was like drinking liquid air. Not to mention the FREE (home made) shrimp Creole and red beans & rice that flew off the tables faster than it could be served. Ohh, and I must make honorable mention of DJ Ryan, who kept the energy high and engaged throughout the night. Our hats are off to "Go" for taking the win, and going on to perform at The Poems Under the Dome as a part of his winnings.
With finals right around the corner (june8) we will be giving preferential treatment to slammers who have not yet qualified (4pts). Our fabulous May 11th features are the fierce fenom Queen Sheba and the lyrical lighting rod Jared Paul. There will be MORE FREE FOOD at the May 11th show!!! And if that Ain't enough, we will be featuring the 'for sale' art work and jewelry of Bush Mama (of Bush Magazine). This will be a jammed packed night of performance you won't wanna miss.

Features:
Queen Sheba is a sexy, soulful, exciting, entertaining, sassy, classy, intelligent package of artistic devastation. She is a veteran member of the Slam Charlotte Team (current National Champs); she is a tireless performer and organizer. From Ghana to Compton, coffee house to concert halls, she has taught and performed in 8 countries and 3 continents. She performed for the Rolling Stone's 500 Songs for kids campaign, was featured on the 2007 BET Lyric Cafes series, she was nominated for the NAACP Image Award, and won 2006's Just Plain Folks Spoken Word Album of the year! www.myspace.com/thequeensheba

Jared Paul is a social worker, journalist, activist, and organizer from Providence RI with a reputation for explosive delivery and intense politics. A long time member of the Providence, RI team, Jared advanced into the Indi World Poetry Slam Finals in '06 and '07. Jared has joined sage Francis on two International tours. On and off stage Jared encourages listeners to consider a healthy balance between enjoying life, family, profession, and practicing direct action for social progress and environmental responsibility. www.myspace.com/jaredpaul

DJ Monkee Pant bringin the old school funk .

In other poet loving news, we will be holding a special separate show called Double Dribble May 18th (7p-9p at Voice Factory). We know that the SF Slam is a monthly show so we want to give everyone ample opportunity to finish up those qualifying points. The top 4 poets in Double Dribble will get twice the number of point (Ex. 4th place= 2 points instead of 1). We say Happy SF Family birthday to Mac Dennis, Laura Yes Yes, Charles Ekabhumi, and Agatha.
