In honor of Veteran's Day, November 11, Elana James, vocalist and fiddler for the Hot Club of Cowtown, is releasing "Hey, Beautiful." The lyrics are, simply, a letter written by U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Juan Campos (1979-2007)--one of the last he wrote to his wife from Iraq. Elana read Campos's words in The New York Times article "Six of the Fallen, in Words They Sent Home," which appeared in March 2008 as part of excerpts from the e-mail messages, journals and web postings of six soldiers who died in Iraq since January 1, 2007. Elana was moved by this letter in particular, and was inspired to put his words to music. "Hey, Beautiful" is the letter just as Campos wrote it (though it has been edited slightly for length).

Yes, I find these phrases as annoying as Jon Stewart does.

But the fact remains, if you're planning to stay closer to home this summer, but still want to enjoy your vacation time, we happily suggest an evening out on the town including a concert with The Stolen Sweets on July 17th at The Spokane Masonic Center!  :)

Spokane's River 99.9FM and Think SWING! Jazz and Blues Festival present a guilt-free sampling of 1930s swing jazz confection, featuring the seamless harmonies and jazz manouche accompaniment of The Stolen Sweets.  Warm up set provided by the sizzling Hot Club of Spokane.  Tickets available at www.ticketswest.com

Visit www.thinkswingspokane.com for more info, including audio and video samples.

Make your plans now to see The Stolen Sweets, live in concert, July 17th, at the Spokane Masonic Center!
