Horror, Psychos, and Madmen Make For A Perfect Concert Experience
A review of the Hellbilly Deluxe 2 tour by Jason Saint
November 25th, 2k9

It was mid-to-late September when I heard about the madness that was about to ensue at Broadbent Arena. Not only was Rob Zombie coming to town, but he would be accompanied by psychobillies Nekromantix as well as rockabilly country punks Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures. The mere thought of it was enough to lift me out of my chair. I think it goes without saying, the show did not disappoint.

Broadbent Arena has got some ass backwards management. My girlfriend Kris and I got to the arena at 4:30 PM to make sure that we had a good spot in line to make it up front for the show, which the doors opened to at 6. However, upon getting inside, we were told to go to the back of the arena to get wristbands, then make our way back up to the front. Needless to say, this pissed off a good portion of the floor ticketholders. Another thing that bothered everyone is the fact that cameras were banned from the show. Really. Kris and I made our way to the front of the crowd and squeezed our way against the guardrail. At 7:30, Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures took the stage.

Right off, the crowd didn't seem too thrilled by the country punks. A lot of people were expecting something much heavier considering the stage outfits of the band, which included everyone in black jackets with skeletons on them accompanied by white facepaint with dark patters around their eyes. However, the crowd soon warmed up to the bluegrass-inspired heavy metal that banged out of the Texas four-piece. Lead singer Captain Clegg asked how the crowd was doing after the second song to a barely lively response. However, after each band member showed a quick sample of their talents as the band led into their song "Dr. Demon", the crowd started to warm up quite a bit.

It was a sample of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" that got the crowd excited, followed by a lead-in from "Zombie A Go-Go" into the Misfits' "Hollywood Babylon", then straight back into the band's original track. By this point, the crowd was cheering loudly following each tune. When the band spoke of their appearance in Rob Zombie's "Halloween 2", the crowd responded heavily, but even more so when mentioning that they did the music for the fictional band Banjo & Sullivan from Zombie's 2005 outing, "The Devil's Rejects". The band then performed the song "I'm At Home Gettin' Hammered While She's Out Gettin' Nailed" from the B&S album, including a sample of Johnny Cash's classic "Folsom Prison Blues". By the time the band ended their 30 minute set, the crowd had completely bought into Captain Clegg and cheered them as they left the stage.

Next up were the Nekromantix. If you haven't heard the Nekromantix, then you simply haven't heard them. There's no comparing them to any other band with the music they've created over the years. This year, the band is celebrating 20 years together, and despite several line-up changes, original frontman Kim Nekroman has managed to stay original and persist on with his classic style of psychobilly madness.

The band hit the stage with their 2002 single "Gargoyles Over Copenhagen", paying homage to Nekroman's hometown in Germany. Immediately, I started dancing along with the band and singing as loud as I could without my voice cracking. Nekroman's self-made coffin bass has a very deep sound which holds very true live as guitarist Franc shredded away on a bat covered hollowbody guitar. I've not heard many solos from psychobilly bands that disappointed and this one was no different. On the drums was new female member Lux, who was thoroughly impressive throughout the entire show. In between songs, she would keep the beat going from tom to tom, never missing a single beat and doing so in a pair of high heels with a smile on her face. Truly one of the most impressive sights I've seen.

Unfortunately, the crowd reaction didn't seem to be what the Nekromantix were expecting. During their set, there were two fights in the crowd which prompted anyone on the floor who was nearby to turn and watch. For a guy like myself who was at the rail, it only irritated me as I kept having the oversized stomachs of security guards in my face every time some drunken moron decided to try to look tough. Either way, the Nekromantix pushed on, playing the single from their latest album "Life Is A Grave & I Dig It", titled "Horny In A Hearse" followed by the classic "Devil Smile" and another fan favorite from their 2002 album, "Subcultural Girl". Nine songs into their set and 30 minutes later, the Nekromantix finished up and left the stage without so much as a "thank you". As disappointing as it was, I could understand the disingenuity. The crowd just wasn't feeling it for some reason and the beer was starting to take its effect, which led to the drunken behavior of just a few jerks that would ruin everyone around them's good time.

At 9:00, it was time for the Hellbilly himself to hit the stage. A snippet from his recent animated film "The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto" played for a bit, followed by a medley of Zombie's intros from his first 3 solo albums. During which, the band started to hit the stage including Piggy D. of former Wednesday 13 fame on bass, Tommy Clufetos from the Alice Cooper band on drums, legendary guitarist John 5, and the Superbeast himself, Rob Zombie. The band hit the stage and immediately kicked into "What Lurks On Channel X?", followed by "Superbeast" from Zombie's first solo album, 1998's "Hellbilly Deluxe". The crowd was simply electric. Every person in attendance was pumping their fist and screaming along with each word Zombie spoke. When the band moved onto "Demonoid Phenomenon", Zombie left the stage to stand on the rail while holding the hands of the fans, leaning down to scream along with anyone who was close to him. I personally got to scream "GET IT ON!" from the chorus, which reminded how it felt to be 15 again when heavy metal was more than fast guitars and breakdowns.

Always a crowd pleaser and a hell of a front man, Zombie marched from one side of the stage to the other non-stop, moving his body along with the sounds coming from his band. Guitarist John 5 showed that he wasn't afraid to get dirty as he let spit dangle from his mouth, sometimes spitting it up into the air only to catch it in his mouth again. Halfway into the set, Tommy was left alone by the band to do a drum solo accompanied by strobe lights and smoke machines. It was absolutely incredible the way that he could move from one side of the set to the other by the time the first drum had stopped ringing. After his solo, the band rejoined and kicked straight into "Never Gonna Stop" from 2001's "The Sinister Urge". When I saw Zombie in 2005, Sherri Moon joined the band onstage to do backup vocals but opted out this time around. "Living Dead Girl" was up next, which ignited the crowd to scream along and of course all the females to show off their upper assets. This didn't bother Zombie so much as it seemed to give the rockstar more energy. The screens onstage then started to play clips from "House Of 1,000 Corpses" as the band started to play the song sharing the same name.

The band winded down to play a few new tunes from the upcoming "Hellbilly Deluxe 2", which is the reason for this particular tour. New songs "What?" and "Sick Bubble-Gum" had the crowd attempting to sing along, but a majority of them just watched and applauded afterward. He then went from future to past as "More Human Than Human" came from the speakers as the robot from the video joined the band, followed by "Thunder Kiss '65". All the old school fans in attendance, such as myself, were pure bliss to the White Zombie anthems of old. It was a surreal moment seeing these songs performed and looking around to see so many people singing along. Even the people who had seats were standing, dancing, pumping their fists and singing the words along with the American Nightmare. During "Thunder Kiss '65", Rob left his band to venture into the crowd, leaving John 5 to deliver one of the best solos I've ever seen in my life... and I've seen Van Halen! He finished it off by dropping his guitar pick (which I later got) and picking the strings with his teeth, playing the national anthem to the crowd's approval. Absolutely amazing.

The band then left the stage, giving the crowd a chance to scream for an encore. After about three minutes, the band returned and ripped into "Super-Charged Heaven" followed by "Demon Speeding". Leaving the stage again, the lights in Broadbent Arena went black as the crowd started to scream for yet another encore. This time, it was a few minutes before the Superbeast would return, letting the crowd chant his last name for a good 5 minutes. Finally, the screens kicked back on as a clip from the 60's TV show "The Munsters" started to play. While most of the crowd seemed puzzled, I knew what was coming next as I recognized the vehicle shown in the clip. Sure enough, the band returned to play one final song: Zombie's first solo single, "Dragula". The crowd went insane. Rob started to dash from one side of the stage to the other and back again, jumping off monitors, then running down and along the side of the guardrail, making sure he looked everyone in the eye on the way. He rejoined the stage as the song finished up while Tommy, Piggy, and John played a fantastic lead-out to end the show. Afterward, the band saluted everyone by throwing out picks, signed drumheads, and drumsticks before leaving the stage as the arena filled up with light.

Afterward, I got the chance to meet all of the bands outside the arena. It was truly awesome to meet Nekroman again considering the first time around, a friend of mine neglected the camera in the car. It was about midnight by the time Rob and his band came out, but he was a very polite guy, very soft spoken. Needless to say, I was stoked to meet him for obvious reasons, but the main being that he's done all of the things I want to do with my life, including his animations, his movies, and his music. He gave every fan a chance to speak before moving on, but the band had to be on their way.

I'd give the show a 9 out of a possible 10, docking one point only because of the dead crowd during the Nekromantix set. Zombie's energy was enough to carry the entire show by himself, only made better by the incredible stage show and highly talented members of the band's current line-up. I look forward to seeing Captain Clegg again as his brand of music is very seldom seen; same goes for the Nekromantix. Given the fact that he hasn't disappointed yet, I will of course see Rob Zombie and his band for the third time when given the chance. Only if I'm in the mood for a great show. -SAINT

Current mood:  tired
I keep this as a way to basically remind myself of when and where I saw certain bands. Also, because I think it's pretty cool that I've seen so many great bands.

It's set up according to year, obviously. The first number is what show it is in order as to how many I've been to, the second number is which show that year it was. If I remember the tour name, it's on there. Have fun!

I haven't blogged on here in a long time. I guess things just get more important then spending all day online doing jack shit and worrying about absolutely nothing.

Sometimes I miss those days. Days where all that mattered was scrounging up change to go buy food, making pointless stupid YouTube videos that really weren't that funny, and taking a thousand picture of myself. At some point, you have to wake up and realize that life isn't about sitting around and talking about how "awesome" things are. When you get up and start actually doing things with yourself, that's when you can actually say things are awesome.

Currently, I'm awaiting several movies I've done in the last year to be released. Some titles include "Hell House" (directed by Jason Crowe and starring Al Snow), "Ultimate Death Match 2" (starring Raven, Kevin Nash, The Sandman, etc.), "Secretariat" (a Disney movie starring John Malkovich), "Endless Bummer" (a National Lampoon's movie starring Matthew Lillard), and "The Superhero" (written and directed by Brandon and myself). This Saturday, I've got a taping for a movie called "Steampunk", then next year I've got "Friday Night Massacre" where I'll play Ariel Toombs' (Roddy Piper's daughter!) boyfriend, plus me and Derek are finally bringing "The Last Summer" to life.

It's about time that I buckle down and start doing what I wanna do with my life. It's times like this that I'm completely satisfied with life and that I realize that my own ambition and drive has made me the exact person that I've always wanted to be.

I have an agent. That's a really cool thing to be able to say. I'm turning into Vinnie Chase, and one day, all the mistakes I've made (and dated) in the past will be even better to laugh at than they are now.

You'll see me before I see you.

Category: Blogging
I started a new blog site. This one works for sure, it's good for my random little rants and shit that doesn't matter, but I began a new site for the more "epic" blogs I post. Chances are, I'll be posting them here as well from time to time depending on how recent they are, but this is my more "prolific" blog site.

So, here ya go: http://jasonfnsaint.blogspot.com/

Category: Friends
So, after the last few weeks of my life, having saved a life from a car wreck and then almost had mine taken in a similar scenario, things are brewing in my head. After fighting to help people get jobs who would rather screw themselves than hang with me, I'm doing some thinking. After washing more kinds of blood (fake and real) out of my clothes over the last few weeks and feeling the exact same apathetic-ness about both scenarios, things are coming to mind...

The world sure is a fucked up place.

I... love... my friends. I do. It's a privilege and a disadvantage, a fault and a quality of mine to be very unconditional and sometimes TOO forgiving to some of the people in my life. However, there are times (as stated in my previous blog/bitching) that I just give up now and again. Shit happens, guaranteed, but recently, a friend of mine declined going with me to do something so he could (and I quote) "get caught up on House". The TV show.

When shit like that happens, it really makes me re-think my relationship with certain people. When a friend of mine is out of house and home due to circumstances beyond his mental control but is trying to find something for me for my birthday despite not having the cash to LIVE OFF OF, that's a fucking friend. However, when someone doesn't want to simply go out and enjoy each other's company due to the fact that getting up off their lazy ass is a chore in its own, then that's when I draw the line.

As far as life and death go, well, I've always laughed at both. Nice guys finish last, and assholes finish first. Depending on who you ask, I'm either of those. I guess that's why the occasional defeat is garnered by at least 20 consecutive victories. There's been times in my life where I thought shit was horrible, but looking back, hell, I got over them all. Keeping that in mind, I remember to press on because hell, what CAN'T I get over?

2 weeks ago, I pulled a guy from a flaming car. 1 week ago, I saw him playing with his granddaughter at his house when he invited me over to thank me. And yesterday, I almost got hit by a truck. Granted, it was my own dumbass fault, but I made sure Kris was okay, drove off, and proceeded to laugh hysterically for a minute or so. I've, like I said, reached a point to where I don't care. I've done it all, everything I've wanted to do, and can honestly say that if I die at any point in time, I wouldn't be bitter about it.

However, that brings me back to the original subject, in that some people won't put fourth the effort to accomplish.. well, anything! People would rather play a video game than go out with friends, and that's just pathetic. I don't understand people and their stupid priorities, and how everybody has lost their ability to communicate with others. Last Summer, I remember sitting at a table with a few friends and being the only one not texting, and trying to get everyone's attention, but failing. That, my friends, is pathetic. Hence why I hate texting, and hence why said people are never invited when I go out and do stuff.

But would it matter? Most of the people I know aren't willing to try new things unless everyone and their fucking grandmothers are telling them how great it is, then they tell me about it and I say "Well fuckass, I told you 2 years ago it was awesome." I can think of at least 10 instances that's happened in, and it bugs me! Why are people so fucking droned and glued to their electronics and boring-ass lives?

In the past month, I've done a lot of shit. I've been to concerts, parties, movies, dinners, hung out with friends, saved lives, been to weddings, comic readings, meet-and-greets with best-selling artists, and worked my ass off as a "higher-up" at a billion dollar corporation. In all of these things, I've invited people to all of them and at each one of them, people have declined only to sit at home. Hell, half the people I know haven't gotten out and done any of those things in the last YEAR, let alone the last month!

I guess it just confuses me. Then again, I think I might be a little fucked up anyway, so what does it matter? Maybe I'm the one who just "lives too much". Hell, I'd rather be doing that then sitting around like the living dead doing jack shit with my time. At least I'm living while I'm alive.

I know a lot of pieces of shit. Fact is, I overlook a lot of that. Some of my friends are just great friends who do shitty things now and again, and some of my friends are shitty friends who do great things now and again. I have friends who are great and are always great, and I have friends that are shitty and are always shitty, have always been shitty, and will always be shitty.

Fact of the matter is, I trust about 3 of my friends. Dead serious. I don't know many people I actually trust. Speaking of trust, I actually have a friend that almost all of my mutual friends flat out don't trust. It really makes me wonder, is it worth overlooking? What's the point in being around someone one or two days of the month simply to put up with them, and then hear through mutual friends about all the shit they've talked about you?

I can't stand people who don't do jack shit with their lives. I know people who won't leave their house unless there's free beer or weed, or someone else is footing the bill for them. I know people who make excuses after excuses about shit and then have the fucking nerve to say "I wish we hung out more." That sentence single-handedly makes my fucking head start throbbing. People go to such great lengths to pretend to give a shit but why? Why would you waste so much time trying to pretend that you give a fuck?

God forbid I post something one day saying "I got in trouble and my execution date is blah blah blah". Suddenly, everyone and their mother are jumping out of their houses to come hang with me one last time. Does anyone ever notice that, well, the death toll in the world, per day, is unGodly high? Every day, people do stuff in their life that several thousand others have died doing. From putting clothes on to driving a car, we all put ourselves at risk throughout our natural lives.

Keep this in mind and remember, you're tired, but you're not THAT tired. The TV is still gonna be there when you get home. Video games don't equal a social life. Your buddy that is making the effort to hang out with you might die in 5 minutes, Goddammit. Get up off your fucking ass and go Goddamn do something. For fuck's sake.

Today, I busted my ass at work. I made sure that the people in my area weren't thirsty, that everyone was okay, people got what they needed, and was sure to keep the morale high. I did everything in my power to make sure that everyone was satisfied, because I care about the people where I work. Half the people there (literally, I counted) are there because I either got them the job, or they're back because they knew that I had been busting my ass to make things better. However, at the end of the night, when I invite people out to eat, one, ONE, person shows up.

Today was shit. I'm not gonna get into the biggest problem I had because frankly, it's not anyone's business. At work, the "higher ups" enjoyed making things difficult and seeking out a bad guy and taking out their aggression on little ol' me. I wanted to hang with my friends afterward, that didn't happen. I wanted to enjoy my fucking day, and that didn't happen. Shit flat out doesn't work out for anybody, but you know what? That's not anybody's fault, so I'm not taking it out on anybody. I'm getting up, dusting myself off, and going on.

Yet, it's in my head. People are shitty fucking people and they will be forever. I'm not begging for attention or requesting gratitude, but Goddamn it, I'm a fucking king. I do shit for people that nobody on this Earth (or at work) would give a fuck to do. And guess what? I do it right.

However, I get criticized for the littlest things that don't. Fucking. Matter. That being said, I am fucking TIRED of the shit I put up with. Today, things are going to change. Sorry to everyone who loves the old J. I'm doing things my way.

Current mood:  amused
I LOVE IT! I FUCKING LOOOVE THE TRUTH BOX! The Truth Box has shown me the many, many people who FEAR ME. The people of this world who comment anonymously are the ones who are so fucking scared of me that they say their shit to me on the anonymous Truth Box.

So, I wanna go ahead and respond to the following cutesy little messages I've received in there.

"your a fuckin fag"

"you make me lol and not with you."

AND...

"You think you're a God and you're really not. You're just annoying. You are not special."

Ohhh Christ. Je-sus Christ. I'm blown away by these comments. Why? Because GUESS WHAT?! YOU'RE ON MY PAGE! NOWHERE on MySpace can you get directly to my Truth Box unless you go to my page, scroll down enough to see the Truth Box, and leave these stupid ass comments!

It is indeed a fact that you are spending moments of your life to insult me. You are taking time out of YOUR life.... to think about me. To go my page. To talk about me.

THANK YOU. Keep coming back! Come up with something that might actually BOTHER me. Say something so fucking horrible that is TRUE and that ACTUALLY EFFECTS ME. Or, you know, insult me, and hide behind the wall of the Truth Box.

But at the end of the day, guess what? I'm seriously amused by you. Why? Because you are a chicken shit pussy. You go to such lengths that you actually COMMENT MY TRUTH BOX ON MYSPACE like a FUCKING 12 YEAR OLD. What a pussy. You fucking fail. Congratulations. I'm better than you.

Current mood:  thankful
I'm always gonna be proud of who I am. That's something I honestly don't see changing in the next year or the next 20 years. There's things I've said and done that I don't think were appropriate, or intelligent, but the fact remains that at the end of the day, I'm still the same guy I started out to be.

I'm not going to sit here and brag about anything I've accomplished. What I will say is that I'm living proof that anyone can accomplish anything. And, to add to that, anybody can find something to be proud of. I'm not talking about the "man, I have fun" kind of pride, I'm talking about the kind of pride you feel once you sit back, look around, and go "this is exactly what I wanted this to be" at something YOU'VE done.

Of course, there are naysayers, as there's going to be in anything in life. I'm not going to say that I've never naysayed anybody because I'm 100% guilty of doing so. However, what differentiates me from everyone else is that I don't believe in the naysayers. I believe in myself. Some call that cocky, some call it "shameless", but then again, those "some" don't matter to me. The same people who have negative things to say are the same people who are completely worthless minus the 3 or 4 people they've managed to hold their interest.

I've been insulted my entire life. I'm not looking for pity, merely stating a fact. As of today, actually, I'm almost positive that there are at least 3 or 4 people who will read this blog or mention my name or talk about something I've done and have some nice little negative things to say. That's a part of life, and something that I'm used to. Once again though, they don't matter to me.

Joking around is a completely different issue. If someone spends all their time being completely negative and wondering why people just don't give a shit, it's one of the very few things in life I think about and go "Why isn't this obvious?". I've read countless status updates, blogs, texts, heard conversations, you name it from people that are unsatisfied. It makes me wonder... why? What in the hell is so horrible about anybodies lives that they're completely unsatisfied with anything?

I'm not saying that I'm 100% okay with everything. I mean obviously, life's not going to be compassionate about anything you prefer. Even saying that, it should be pretty evident that when there's things in life that suck, how many things are actually okay? How many things are awesome? Think about it: We live in a world where someone doesn't have a fucking video game, or someone's full attention, or a hot dog, or can't go to the fair, or whatever, so they get on their nice computers where they get on the internet that they have the money to pay for in their nice places of residence while probably eating something they DON'T need, and bitch about these trivial little things. Doesn't it make more sense to be like "Well, I don't have this bullshit that doesn't matter, but at least I'm not fucking homeless."

But no. Unfortunately, people as a whole don't tend to think like that. People are negative creatures who'd rather piss and moan about "poor poor pitiful me" than appreciate the good in life. I'm challenging anybody who's reading this that might think to themselves "hmm, maybe he means me" to sit back and think about all the things you DO have and all the good fortunte that does exist in your life. Or at least consider this... your problems, your tiny little shitty problems, really... aren't that bad.

Or sit around and cry like a pussy. It's your call. You do that, and I'll watch my TV and then go lay in my bed under my roof and be thankful that my life isn't as shitty as half the fucking world's population. I promise you... life ain't all that bad.

Everyone should come audition for Fright Fest @ Six Flags! September 3 and 4 7pm-9pm. Visit http://www.sixflagsjobs.com/kentuckyKingdom/jobs/auditions.aspx for more details!

Okay people, it's that time of the year again where the Six Flags crew is hiring the best of the baddest for this year's Fright Fest attraction! The haunted house is currently in the process of being COMPLETELY redone and is going to be fantastic for this year's crew!

The way that we're running things is a little different than we have in previous years. This year, we're having auditions, and the way we're doing that is that we're having people come in on Thursday, September 3rd and Friday, September 4th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. You need only attend one of the two above listed dates.

The auditions will consist of people meeting outside of H.R. (which there will be directions to in a minute) and we'll be traveling to the haunted house and placing people in different rooms and doing a few walk-thrus to see how people perform in each room. We're doing this to make sure that we put the right people in the right rooms so that we give the customers the perfect Halloween experience. Performers over the age of 18 preferred, but we are hiring people anywhere from 15-55!

To get to H.R. (aka the meeting place), you take the Watterson Expressway to the Crittenden Drive exit. Once off the exit, go North, turn into Gate 2. Past gate 2, you go straight across the street into the side parking lot. After parking, go through the chain-link gate, through the security entrance on your left, and you'll see everyone waiting to get started. If you have any questions, call Six Flags HR at 502 375 0992.

If you have any additional questions, or would just like an "official" announcement, visit http://www.sixflagsjobs.com/kentuckyKingdom/jobs/auditions.aspx. Other than that, I'll see you guys on September 3rd and 4th.

Looking forward to a great year!
