Two tickets will be given to one of AC's high school friends; two tickets will be given to an AC student. Everyone got it? It'll give you something to do over the Christmas holidays. The vouchers are good for any at-home games this season (playoffs not included) and are for red-level seating.

To enter: leave a comment on AC's profile OR send a message to AC OR leave a comment on this blog STATING YOUR SCHOOL'S NAME. One entry per person will be accepted.

Winners will be selected through a random drawing on Thursday, December 18. Winners will be notified that day via a message on MySpace.

GOOD LUCK!

Amarillo College journalism students won nine awards Oct. 3 from the Texas Community College Journalism Association, including three by Rachel Nelson. The awards were announced at the TCCJA convention in Corpus Christi.

In competition with other community colleges across the state, Nelson took both first and second places in editorial writing in the Division I newspaper category. The first-place award was for an editorial in the student newspaper, The Ranger, in October 2007. The editorial criticized a Colorado student newspaper for its four-letter-word assessment of President Bush.

The second place certificate was for a November 2007 editorial promoting the right of college students to drop as many courses as they want.

Nelson, now a copy editor at the Amarillo Globe-News, also placed first in the Division 1 newswriting category for her December 2007 story on AC history and government textbooks that were accused of political bias.

Jon McEwen placed second in the open magazine division for his fall 2007 story on the AC media convergence program.

Receiving honorable mention were Maddisun Fowler for her design of the contents pages of the fall 2007 AC Current magazine; The Ranger for its online edition; Brittani Wray and Josh Godsey for their Ranger picture page covering Fallfest 2007; Rebekah Thompson for her November 2007 photo of a hot-air balloon in Palo Duro Canyon; and Cindy Maggiulli for her sports feature story on a Swedish fencer in a February 2008 Ranger.

Wray also is a Globe-News copy editor.
