Purple is my favorite color and I saw the musical, "The Color Purple," tonight which is produced by the almighty Oprah. It was a great production. Some fantastic, powerhouse voices in the show. Every time I see a musical, I get the itch to do theater. I'm supposed to do some revisions to the musical I have been working on. It's been my dream to be on Broadway one day. I'll be okay if it doensn't happen, but I miss live theater. Maybe, I just miss performing. I've been doing more studio work the past few months and haven't hit the stage in awhile. I have some songs I've been slowly working on for a new album. Having some time off performing has allowed me to rediscover my love for songwriting. I started out wanting to be a songwriter and producer and that's what I get to do now. I know it will take more faith for me to persevere and continue this race. There's much more ahead on this journey I'm on.

Taking a a break from wedding planning, I watched the last new episode of 30 Rock last night. This is one of the funniest shows IMO. I love silly, surreal, satirical humor. there are so many random jokes and even a spontaneous musical number. i'm excited to watch new episodes of LOST since Heroes and 24 are affected by the strike. My fave new show is Chuck, which stars my friend, Zac Levi. Such a fun show and I'm not saying that just because I know Zac.

However the well of scripted shows in most of the TV land is drying up and also has some effect on musicians like me who do work in Film and TV. I'm just glad The Oprah Winfey Show isn't affected so I can continue to earn royalties from new episodes. While the strike goes on, NBA season is in full swing and I'm pumped up about my Lakers winning and blowing out teams...oh and Go UCLA!

I'm up in Sacramento with my fiance and actually braved the mall today. It's been an interesting week. My grandfather is in the hospital recovering from a heart attack so I'm trying not to worry about his health too much. I'm recovering from bronchitis. I'm happy I watched the Garfield animated movie on DVD last week. that gave me some warm fuzzies. Hope everyone enjoys their Christmas and New Year. Remember to count your blessings and treasure your health.

The past couple weeks I went to Boston to visit my cousins and friends en route to NYC for Baldwin's cousin's wedding. I decided to fly Virgin America from JFK to LAX because they had a $129 promo deal to launch the airline. Lesson 1: Don't fly on new airlines because their schedules are messed up. I was delayed for 2 1/2 hours for some stupid reasons like they couldn't get the crew there on time. Lesson 2: Delayed passengers = lots of drama. The flight before mine got cancelled and all those passengers got bumped to my flight. A couple of passengers made big fusses about changing seats and were giving the poor flight attendants such as  hard time. To their credit, the crew was very nice and it's cool to order your drinks by computer touch screen.  Anyway, I enjoyed my Clam Chowda, NY pizza and street kabobs while they lasted. Back to smoggy, smoky LA.

Thanks to everyone that voted and told their friends to vote for my song for Star 98 song contest. I didn't win but I'm proud of the fact you helped me make the Top 10 out of hundreds of entries. The support you showed was overwhelming....I was quickly rewarded something even better than performing on Star 98...This weekend I got engaged to my boyfriend, Baldwin, (aka Only Won)..... Continue reading for the full scoop.....

Sat. 9/29 - We drive to San Francisco for an appointment with a concert promoter. Baldwin didn't tell me exactly where we were going. We arrive at the SF Zoo before it opens to the public. He tells me they are considering having me perform at a Chinese New Year celebration there. He hired a photographer to pretend he works for the zoo and will be documenting this process. Katheryn (the SF Zoo Liaison) meets us and takes us on a tour of the zoo on our way to the office.
We're walking through the zoo like a couple of rock stars. LOL!

We stop to visit a tiger...Baldwin's fave cuz he's born in the year of the tiger.

The whole tour I'm begging to see the Penguins since I love them so much. I always wanted to pet a penguin and here I got the chance up close and personal. His name is Pippin.

Katheryn returns with a confession to Larissa. "This is NOT just a concert promotion meeting. Baldwin has adopted a penguin in your name which allows you to meet the penguin you adopted! In fact, along with meeting the penguin, we are including this plush penguin doll."
When she showed me the stuffed penguin, I noticed something shiny around its neck and started tearing up.... so he took the ring off and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said "yes."
Here we are admiring the ring. It's beautiful!
10 minutes later I got stung by a bee on my finger, but never fear Only Won is here to kiss it and make it better.
What a great surprise! (the engagement, not the bee sting)

So there it is. It's official! It was the perfect penguin proposal!

Well, I didn't win the Star 98.7 contest, but I still feel victorious because I was shown such tremendous support. Even if my name was spelled wrong on their website, I hope many people were exposed to my music and the inspiration for my music. I know so many of you had your friends, aunts, uncles, nephews, dogs and cats voting. I plan to keep making music and I probably should get around to shooting a video. People all over the world pitched in to vote so I hope my fan base can keep growing.  My goal was to make the Top 10 and I'm thankful for that distinction out of the hundreds of other entries.

Ok, only 3 more days till the contest ends. 9/26/07 5pm (PST) to be exact. So here's my last ditch effort to get votes to win the contest. Please vote for the final round if you haven't already. Vote for "Pendulum" - Larissa Lambr (my name is mispelled. can you believe that?) http://www.star987.com/pages/vote.html?feed=204416&article=2403680

I made a special video that should be on my profile here to say "Thank You" to everyone who's voted so far so check it out.

I have officially started shameless campaigning. This my first online voting contest I've entered.  It's So Cal radio station Star 98.7's contest. The winner's song will be on their Star Lounge CD which have included artists like John Mayer and Sarah McLachlan. You don't have to live in LA to vote!
Help me make the Top 10 finalists. 1st round of voting ends 9/19.

Just go to http://www.star987.com/pages/vote.html?feed=204416&article=2403680
Look for "Pendulum" - Larissa Lam and vote now!! !
Thanks for your help and pass the word on.
Be blessed,
Larissa

I haven't blogged as much during the summer since I've been traveling a lot. I thought I would have more time to document my adventures, but alas, I've barely been able to keep up with email. It was quite toasty today. I do enjoy summer nights because you can walk outside without a jacket. The heat makes me kinda sleepy though. I need to start staying up later to find my inspiration in songwriting. I have lots of ideas brewing in my head. I've been surrounded by people in pain and in love. Those are always 2 great emotions to base songs on.

And now for my small victory of the day...It's been hard to find a ladies UCLA tee outside of the campus store. I've been on a quest the past couple weeks to buy a new shirt. All my old tees are faded and oversized. I've been wanting to show off my Bruin pride. I finally came upon a cute tank top at the airport in Sacramento. It was on sale too. Hooray! and now it's time for an 8 clap (those who went to UCLA will know what that means.)

I've been experiencing a lazy summer the past couple of weeks. Something about the heat just makes you want to grab a glass of ice cold lemonade and just sit under the shade eating chilled watermelon. That's exactly what I've been doing but I think you get my point. I learned how to use my webcam on my MacBook so hopefully I'll get the courage to start doing a video blog soon. I saw Hairspray the movie musical today with my dad. While I enjoyed the stage version, I love the movie much more. I think it just sparkles with energy and fun. It takes a few minutes to get used to Travolta playing a woman, but he can still kick up the dance moves like he did in Grease and Saturday Night Fever. There's still a few summer flix I have to catch up on like Transformers. At some point I should get back to writing some music....
