You can see Benny conducting in Hitchcock's 1956 film 'The Man Who Knew Too Much'. It's arguably the closest we'll get to seeing him doing what he did well.
You can see the clip below or click HERE to go straight to the YouTube page.

Having just cleaned out over 15 spam messages, with just 1 genuine comment about Benny to post up, could people please be careful about their profiles being used by spammers?
Future spam messages will sadly have to result in friends being removed - it's a waste of time and highly frustrating to wade through to say the least. 1 person, whose profile looks fine, sent 3 spam messages with the same picture over 2 weeks. They are just, JUST, being allowed to stay with us.
Benny, no doubt, would have found this a most unrewarding experience...

On doing another web search, it's wonderful to find an increasing amount of media and texts about Benny. It seems people are really beginning to wake up to the importance of his work. A quick YouTube search resulted in discovering that many more Herrmann-related clips have been put up in recent months - wonderful!

It's a joy to see so many people finding Benny on MySpace. My apologies if I can't respond to every message sent and touch base with every new friend, but it's a little too demanding to do so - although every message is very appreciated. This way, hopefully at least, I say hello to you, and if you ever have requests for music, let me know.
As ever, and on behalf of,
Bernard.

Having just seen on British TV a documentary about Conrad Black (will post the show if it goes online), which compared the magnate to Citizen Kane and used many excerpts from the Citizen Kane score, I felt compelled to ask you - all of you - to let us know anytime you hear Benny's work used. It could be in film, TV, commercials, theatre, the Internet, YouTube - you name it.
If you get the chance, please add to this blog your keen-eyed observations.
More material will be posted soon.
{On behalf of} Benny.

Here's a Guardian review of Jack Sullivan's book 'Hitchcock's Music', which covers a lot about Herrmann's relationship with Hitchcock. I love this comment: 'It is a lovely, humanising detail to learn that Herrmann dreamed of running an English pub, "until someone told him you actually had to open and close at certain hours"'.

Here's an interesting little article on the scoring of 'Psycho'.
Herrmann caused a stir when he decided to score for the strings section only - which appears to have been key to the music's inventiveness.
It's interesting also how when people talk of the film, they often screech out the famous killing music sequence - could it be that Herrmann's work is now more recognisable than the film itself?
