Street Voice, an e-zine based out of the UK, just gave Workin' a big fat kiss...THANKS STREET VOICE

LEIGH EVIN MCCULLOUGH & THE LOWDOWN – Workin': This twelve track album is one of the best things I've had the pleasure of hearing lately. When so much music tends to be bland the same can't be said about Leigh Evin McCullough. She's more than just a pretty face. This lady is very talented both musically and vocally. Armed with an acoustic guitar, great lyrics and an amazing voice sees Leigh treat us to some wicked songs which incorporate Blues, Pop and Rock. Adding to this charm are the Lowdown which consists of Mike Marsden on bass and Chuck Sansone on drums who really compliment Leigh's guitar work. This twelve track album is something that every music lover should hear for it's rawness and incredible way that Leigh writes her songs.  For me, songs like 'Mind Over Matter', 'Masterbating', 'I' and 'Breathe' really do need to be heard. Certainly not an artist to ignore. 9/10

Thanks Online Rock Magazine!!  They just gave Workin’ an amazing review!!

Workin’, the latest album from Leigh Evin McCullough and the Low Down, throbs out of the speakers in a burst of power. McCullough’s voice is raw and honest, like her lyrics. "He said ’I want a girl who fucks like a whore,’ " she growls in one fearless tribute to the power of well-placed profanity.

Don’t get me wrong: her voice doesn’t have the shaggy cigarette feel of a Joplin or a Holiday. McCullough is more of a Dylan, with a wandering warble that keeps threatening to rebel against the tune without ever quite doing so. Backed by guitars both electric and acoustic, an occasional piano and a motley assortment of rhythm-makers ranging from drums to cowbells to a vibraslap, McCullough and the Low Down (Chuck Sansone, Mike Marsden, J.R. Wydra) provide a satisfying dose of rock that’ll rough up your ears any day of the week.

Favorite Track: "Mind Over Matter"

Even though Illinois based Singer-Songwriter Leigh Evin McCullough plays an acoustic guitar, her music is far from coffee house fare. She is an in-your-face, funky rock and roll gal with something to say. So much so, she placed her own warning label on her latest album Workin that states: "Mental Advisory: Explicit Content".

Together with her backing band, The Low Down, McCullough delivers funk infused, danceable songs with lyrics that listeners may have at one time thought of, but never had the guts to verbalize. For instance, in the song "Masturbating" she sings about the stigma and taboos associated with masturbation. She delivers the lyric "If I have to go to hell, at least I'm smiling" with such an amazing nonchalance you have to laugh. But she also has a more serious side to her edgy lyrical content. In "Not So Black and White" she discusses racism, domestic violence, and homophobic behavior and leaves you with the question. "Why are we hurting anyone?"

Although McCullough's lyrics and voice may seem to be the highlight of her music, the talent and skill of her band cannot be denied. Although The Low Down has revolving members from all around the country, main bass player, Mike Marsden and drummer/pianist Chuck Sansone deliver a live show so full of energy you want to know when they are coming to a stage near you.

Leigh Evin McCullough has collected comparisons to another gutsy woman with an acoustic guitar, Ani DiFranco. One can see the truth in this comparison in more than her sound. Like Ani, Leigh has founded her own company, On Edge Records, which handles distribution and booking for Leigh and The Low Down.

So, if you like strong independent women who play funky rock and roll or you just want to purchase thong underwear that says "Got Caught" on it, be sure to check out Leigh Evin McCullough on the web at onedgerecords.com.

Current mood:  cheerful

UnsungHero.com is featuring "I" on their home page tomorrow-Tuesday, September 11.  This site not only gives artists a chance to sell their material, but also allows their fans to sell it too!

Check it out:  www.UnsungHero.com -Indie Music for Indie Fans...Thanks UnsungHero.com!

By the way...we're totally psyched that "I" will be featured on UnsungHero.com, but it's too bad "AmBush," wasn't picked, you know because it's Sept. 11th, however, that's not to say you can't have your own 'screw Bush' party tomorrow...and we'd like to add that "AmBush" and "Georgie" are great theme songs for any Anti-Bush party ;-)
