Pretty Boy Thorson and the Falling Angels/Cortez The Killer 7" ADD
Okay, first things first: I want to hate this so much, but I can't. If there was a time machine and the 2000 version of myself found me today, sitting in my room spinning this seven-inch over and over while pogo-ing around my room and bopping my head up and down, I'm sure the 2008 version would get a kick straight to the junk. The b-side of this split is Cortez The Killer, straight up from Minneapolis, MN. It sounds pretty lo-fi, but I think that is part of its appeal. I looked at the insert, and the songs were recorded on a four-track, so that explains it. I think it makes the music sound more real. "Can't Quit Me Now"- totally sounds like some sort of weird throw back to garage rock. I'd picture the music video being very kaleidoscope oriented. I bet Weezer is pissed they didn't record this song. "Dolphin Roundabout" - this is the song that gets me jumping and hopping. It's like a sweet mix of new wave/garage punk. The guitar solo reminds me of Blondie's "Dreaming", and if you have a problem with that, I will fight you. If you are looking for something different that isn't all artsy pretentious, this is totally it. Truthfully, I bought this seven-inch as it is with Pretty Boy Thorson and the Falling Angels, but somehow I'm diggin' the Cortez side a little more
