1.)Hey guys give us a little biography about your band? and tell us a little story about how band started?

Coni: to start off… id like introduce you to the band members. Paolo and Romel on Guitars, P. Mike on Bass guitar, T.John on Drums and me, Marconi doing the screamings. Some of us are neighbors and is practically a stone throw away from each other. We all hanged in the same neighborhood called phase 3-A. Mike, Pao, john and I used to jam to a lot of heavy metal shit back when we were lil' kids. Our common friend, Steve has this garage studio that is a long walk from our place. We'd walk it every weekend or whenever theres no classes. We just love to jam. Back then we didn't really took it too seriously it was kind of a hobby and our national past time. Hell we enjoyed jamming to heavy shit. But We officially formed as a band with fixed line up last September 2003. back then the band was called Nuclear Termuloid. We 1st played at freedom bar somewhere in manila. We were invited by mike's younger sister cookie of 15mins.Of Shame to play with them. Back then we hadn't had some originals and we didn't want to play covers coz its kinda stupid. So a day before the show we made 3 songs and before the show we made another one… to a total of 4 fast brutal shit. hell those are the 1st songs!. then after that show we played countless of gigs. fuck I cant remember, im always high. hehehehe. from then on we tend to play every gig eve been invited to.

2.)How did you come up with a brutal name like Nuclear Punishment?

Coni: our initial name was really Nuclear Termuloid. Termuloid is a term that we used to joke about, a lot, it means… umm fuck I don't know! It just sounded funny… hahahaha…
But due to some unknown reasons the band's name was always misspelled or misread at shows. So after months of arguing we decided to change it to a more understandable name, Nuclear Punishment. It was a fusion of the 2 name choices Brutal Punishment and Nuclear Termuloid. 1st it kinda sounded cheesy and as the days passed, we've grown to love it… And that's NPA history folks.

3.) Can you define your brutal music?(Is it death metal,black,grind,porn.. etc..)

coni: We all came from different bands so… well to put it in right context, its kind of a mix of all the music we love and play... Speedmeatal, grind, crust, powerviolence, Death, trash, Hardcore/punk and yes we are inspired by the porn we get from our good ol'friend Macoy Manuel. Also b'Coz some of us plays with other bands… Paolo and John plays for this PositiveTrashcore band FEUD. Mike is from a Grind/crust band Age of Decomposition. Rommel is from a Metal band Harvest of Hate, their vocalist Bokya, died of drugs and alcohol(so kids Don't do drugs!). Marconi, mike and John is with this punk/Crust band called Youth For Crust. Mike and I used to play with a trash/Punk band Verum X. Rommel, Paolo and Mike also played with Half the Battle. Kinda long explanation eh. hehehehe
The sound we create is what Nuclear Punishment is. We just don't wanna be branded/categorized as metal or as a hardcore band. Call it whatever you like. but well just say "it's Brutal, Termulating music".

3.)What inspired you to make brutal songs like Turbo X and
From the bottom of my heart?

Coni: We love brutal music. As the saying goes "you are what you eat" we love brutal music like spaghetti. As for making the song in general, we just jam around and chews every part of the song till we decide to swallow it whole or spit out the refuse. Turbo X is an old song, it was written way back in 2004, the song was about all the war shit we usually see on TV and the current state of strife in the certain parts of the Philippines, particularly the Mindanao region. Some of the words I wrote was inspired by some video game I was playing before we started to lay in the words of the song. As for "from the Bottom of my heart" I wrote it about this girl whom someone used to fuck and go out for 3years. Eventually some shit happened and she broke up with him for some dumb reason. Then she got this new guy, but still she tends to come by every morning to give him a blowjob, chicken joi, pancit malabon and Beer for a year or so… the words in the song is really infact true, word for word,. Its like storytelling. You capture every detail in its juiciest form. The title was given to me by our old friend Easy Morgan of Half the Battle. He was freaked-out on how I write my lyrics… "Eat my Dick, Lick my balls" that's bad man, he said… hahaha we miss that guy though. Fuck you, Easy! I tend to write every song in its most sincerest form… thou I write brutal shit, we practically are good kids. We just see violence and I try to write it as if you'll see different perspectives of the topic. Like looking at rape in the eyes of the rapist or being being imprisoned/arrested for having a joint or just plain having some good time with friends. I was imprisoned thrice, fuck!. Some of the songs are from my own experiences so that's why some of the songs are personal. As for the profanity songs id like to carry the burden of being the scapegoat for being The most perverse person in the band, they call me Kantutanoid for that. With all due respect, we All love and respect womyn/girls. We all have girlfriends. As for me its hard to get one if you constantly sing about "fucking her like a title bout" shit. Hahaha. Porn might have influenced me to write profane lyrics. And my once complex sex life, like having sex with 2 cute Christian school girls…hahahaha, nuff said…

4.)What can you say about the mainstream culture today?

Coni: bunch of sheep minded pussies. Thou I don't hate all of the band in the mainstream. the majority just sucks, big time! I don't mind em at all.. they are just products of the industy that we, in the UG scene, don't wanna be a part of.
'Guess They want fame and fortune. In the aspect of mainstream culture, I despise the way they cash out on the hardcore/punk movement. some say they are punk(Daw) or hardcore(daw) but they only play/listen to those bands they watch on Mtv and other music channels. Mainstream is stagnant shit that we we don't wanna be a part of. Selling out is for pussies(not meant in a macho/sexist way)

5.)How often do you guys are invited to play in gigs?

Coni: as much as often as we are invited. We love to play so we tend to come to every gig were invited to. We even crashed some show in Malate with our compatriots YouthForCrust. We were invited to this show but it was cancelled but the venue had another production… so we decided we would still play…fortunately the organizer was cool enough to be culture shocked to our brand of music.. the bands that played there was this bunch of crap that you'd mostly see on Mtv or listen on the radio. That was a good experience. Hahahah We have a couple of good correspondents that let us play at their gigs/events. We even played Olongapo twice or thrice with Y.F.C., batangas and laguna countless of times, Bulacan with our friends from Play and yea Metro Manila and our Hometown of Cavite. Just invite us and if the circumstances are good well be there and as always, we'd be happy to play for free. The only problem sometimes is the fares to get there, some of us are jobless and not that well off.. but, well we have to make sacrifices for what we love the most. That's Passion!

6.)Do you guys have any past releases like demos and splits?

Coni: we recorded a demo late 2004 it was a live recording of our 1st 6 songs. We wanted to have a record we could listen to. The record was obviously not for release… we handed some burned CD's to our closest friends in the scene and we got positive reactions… so we decided to record a cleaner version of the songs. After months of earning money we hit Soudcreations studio at Quezon city. We were joined by our good ol buddy Easy whom also did some screams to one of the song called Proud to Commit Suicide. The recording went well and we recorded a grand total of 9 songs, 4 of witch are taken from the previous demo. It was then mixed by our ol'friend Macoy Manuel of Earbender studios in Binakayan Bacoor, Cavite. We got some help from Avoid Fate Label with the financial aspects of the mixing and they (Brian and Ledz of Avoid Fate) decided to release the EP on their label. After the release we got plenty of shows and the growth it gave inspired us to write new songs. Destitutes, we again found ourselves needing money for the recording of the new songs. Then Take4Collective stepped in to help us with the recording. By late 2006 we recorded 5 songs at Earbender that would be part of the planned 4 way split with Isvarah, Prayer of Endurance and Forgiveness Denied. The songs are now in the process of mastering… so I think by mid 2007 this year it would be released for consumption. And I promise you this… the CD would be worth every cent.

7.)Have you finished you're recording for the 4 way split
with Forgiveness denied,Prayer of Endurance and Ishvarah?

Coni: Yea the Take4Collective guys are in the process of master mixin the cd and the layouts on the cover and sleeves are getting its final touches.
Thanx to Darwin "the AfroDemon" Dacanay for the awesome Nuclear Punishment artwork. As for the other bands… hands down to them and we are just too happy to be apart of the 4 way slit… the bands are awesome and they have their own styles of brutality, so the CD will be worth listening from the 1st track to the last.

8.)What can you guys say about the DIY UG metal scene today?

Coni: We are always a band that never minds playing in the Hardcore/punk scene or the metal scene… we consider it the same underground scene… as always, we are amazed at how really competent and dedicated people/collectives can do. Doing a show is no easy matter, may it be HC/punk or metal. And those band who release their stuff DIY style, damn! its purely dedication. That's why some of the foreign bands respect the 3rd world DIY scenesters, may it be Metal or Hardcore/punk. It's always amazing to see how the scene manages to strive without the help of the outside shit. As WhatXHappensXNextX? would say it "Communication and Cooperation" and as far I could see, its really effective with all the new technology and all… communication is practically just a click away. And its really great that more and more kids are getting the hang of DIY culture…

9.)Does the UG metal community have any problems today?

Coni: as for the Metal scenes weve been/played with. There is the shit that some Metal shitheads who don't respect the bands who don't look like em… those purist fucks whom hate hardcore/punk kids just because they are not metal. And another is some don't give a damn to other bands. Unlike in the Hardcore/punk scene the people are kinda easy to approach. I'm not saying in general but There would always be some shitty mentality. That's for the problems… but id like to hand it to some metal heads and organizers whom tend to bring people from the Hardcore/punk scene and the Metal scene together. A big hand/Hailz to Roel Mores for doing that every year at his Rural Carnage shows. Also to our brothers in Ologapo Metal scene and the No Bullshitters corix and his bunch of BloodDeathMurder caompatriots. There are a lot of good sides of the scene so I wont focus on the bad shit. Coz its always been there and its up to the people in the scene if they want that shit to stay or not. It's all a matter of choices and a lot o respect.

10.)Thanks for giving me a chance to interview you guys. I got to end beacuse I ran out of questions.. hehehe any reactions, comments, shoutouts, messages, promotions do you guys wanna say?

Hails to you Kevin and your Webzine Dead Stop zine and the Nuclear Punishment Army would like to thank you for the interest you've given in the band. Hope your zine strive tru the ages. And keep it DIY.

COPIED FROM SCRAWLSHOP
Link to SCRAWLSHOP interview

Cavite is well known for crime, drugs, loose women and metal, and somewhere deep in the ghettos of Pag-asa reside their best kept secret: Nuclear Punishment -  reppin' for the southern chaos. Initiate Order 66, get their CD and the upcoming 4 way split from take 4 and take cover. Here's the renegade squad of Coni, Rommel and Metal Mike (direct from a transmission from the kingdom of Saudi Arabia) for interrogation:

the debut release with exclusive art by Darwin "Afro Demon" Dacanay

what's going on in the nuclear punishment camp right now? what happened to mike?

Coni • Hell-O to you Rallye and all the kids in the whole wide world! The Nuclear Punishment Army is quite doing ok as far I see... Mike, our bassist and founding member recently finished Architecture so he left to get more experience in Dubai with his sisters and bros for his shit or somthing. I guess its kind of weird playing without someone who was a cornerstone in the foundation of the band. Still, mike wanted us to go on further and still make brutal music. Mike wanted us to take Jorel, a friend that we knew was great on guitars, but he just got too hooked up with fatherhood coz his girl just had a baby. By then We were lined up for the Aural Massacre 9 at Olongapo last March 31, and time was limited to only a week so we convinced Pao's bro Tatoy to play bass for The show… it went preety well, so for now we consider tatoy as the bass player of the band…

As for the Other Generals of the N.P.Army, Pao is now busy with other bands, Romel is still a Contact center metal representative, John on the other hand is busy with slacking and enjoyin time with stuff. As for me, I'm just waiting for some bitch to fuck hahaha nah.. im looking for a job right now and I guess I have to lay off smoking pot too much. We recently recorded 5 new songs for the Take4Collective 4way split with Isvarah, Prayer of Endurance & Forgiveness Denied. We got some songs pending coz mike just left and everyone is busy with work and stuff and if we have the chance to practice we have to teach the new guy, tatoy, for some of the licks. As for now playin and making new songs are the battle plans for 2007.

Mike • Im here at Dubai my friend.. Im currently researching for a new weapons of mass destruction and im planning to join Hesbola or/and Other terrorist group. Anyway, im comming back to termulate our scene again maybe a year or year and a half. Im just waiting for the great slayer to play at dubai desert rock 2008 and i'll go home.

Rommel- we are still trying to figure out how to pull out new fresh shit to offer to the u.g./h.c. community  we recorded 5 new songs it was a great experience but were not that satisfied our goal is to offer cool fucked up tunes every release we have 3 new tracks that we wanna play at our show and see how people react. as for mike ye heard the guy we will wait for him, rene sancho mike's replacement for now is doin' a good job filling up for mike.

you recorded at Macoy's earbender studios, what can you say about the experience? are you satisfied with the results?

Coni • Yea, we recorded the 5 songs there. Macoy is an old friend of the band way way back. He was an old skating buddie, we also used to jam to a lot of Heavy Metal songs back mid 90's. He's an old metalhead friend so I guess he knows what we want to produce with the recording. The Experience of recording there was kinda different from the Aura of sound Creations. They even had a veranda, that every time my weed was wearing off id puff some before going back to the studio! hehehe.. Every now and then when we get tired, Macoy would show us some Porn and shit he's been into. It was like hanging-out with an old friend. Recording the shit we did and just watch some filthy porn and metal videos, That was the scene there every time we went…
He was cool enough to teach us some shit and he made us feel we have to give the best to get the best result possible.. I shot some vodka, and smoked weed To numb my throat.… as for satisfaction… it was just the 2nd time we recorded in a real recording studio so I guess the result is better than the last EP. Although he didn't have the same sound of the guitars from the last recording, he was cool enough to get the greatest possible sound of the Nuclear Punishment Army guitar works. All in all we are satisfied with the record and up to now I still love listening to it. Guess after that, we'll be recording our next batch of songs there too and by that time, we'll have much experience to dish out more brutal shit.

Mike • For me, Nicely done of course! Mccoy was great and also a great experience for us. it was fun

Rommel - that guy does a great job, everytime we stepped in his domain it's like fun ,porn, and metal definitely we will comeback there and do our new stuff he offers good bargain if we you know, lack sufficient funds. Hehehe

your full length cd was released by Bryan of Avoid Fate, is it a separate label from Take 4? how's it working with Bryan?

Coni • Yes, Avoid fate is not affiliated with Take4Collective... but then the people behind those labels are friends and all are active in the Hardcore/Punk scene. Avoid fate was this label by Brian and Leds. Brian approached us after some time after the first recording at Soundcreations. We got the raw data but it wasn't yet mixed coz we don't have any money. So Brian agreed to pay for the mixing and the release. HE was cool enough to make some Covers and Lyric sheets for the production but I guess some things happened and Brian was preoccupied with PETA… with that the production of the CD was in a halt. Without communication we decided to make bootleg copies of our CD to sell and trade with bands at shows. It was kinda funny, coz we had to bootleg our own CD… hahahhaha but we still give thanx to Avoid Fate for the time and help with financial shit.

being from Cavite can you say that your environment there influences your lyrics and music? what can you say about the music scene there?

Rommel-for me no our music is influence by bands and musicians we adore and listen to come and think of it we fuckin influence each other on what type of songs were gonna do next. cavite scene is full of young rakistas you know, we have yfc sin and other cool punk h.c. bands here that's keeping it raw and real to save our scene here a bit from rock n roll dreamin pussies,

Coni • Cavite is one fucked up place... you got Drugs and Guns galore here. Metamphetamines are as common as hot hot juicy Pussies. i think 90 or 80% of the assholes here did and still do drugs. Some parts of Cavite also have this cowboy way of living. Some still have M-16 and as they call it "Mahahaba"… some nites you'll hear some Rounds fired… but not that often like back in the 80's and 90's that they would fire rounds to the tune of some disco beat… as for the Music scene I hate to admit it but some kids are in it just for kicks like the latest fads and crap. Like in some Parts. Some kids just love moshing but not into the music itself and some fucks that aren't really interested, goes to shows just to pick fights just to show how damn macho they are. Well enough of the pussies!
There is also this side of the scene here that is Brutal… Annually there is a metal Fest in a remote area of cavite called Rural Carnage. The Fest is organized by Metalhead Roel Mores. He invites metal kids from around places and yes he keeps the line up brutal. The fest also caters to some Hardcore/punk bands. He has this great idea of bring in the HC/Punk kids and the Metal heads together in one event. Also there was metal shows in Maragondon organized by COrix of No bullshit zine. But now I guess the maragondon metal shows is put in hiatus coz corix is working now in Saudi… maybe when he comes back. There is also an Annual event for Hardcore/punk kids called the Cavite Hardcore Fest. The Fest was in full swing for 3yrs but the last fest was shutdown for some shit misunderstanding with the club and the organizer. There are countless shows everywhere in Cavite but I really don't go to crappy shows so I can't say much about that... So in general the scene here in Cavite is flourishing and the Brutal Metal scene is crushingly deviating from the trendy crap. Lot of Great Bands and friends.. we love Cavite! I especially love the Smokes and cute Lil gurls to defile.

you've played everywhere from Olongapo to Batangas to Cavite and QC, what are some of the best gigs / best crowds you've played in? any crazy shit that happened on the road?

Coni • Yea we've been to places... we love playing so every time we get invites we really try our best to cum. there have been plenty of shows that kinda stuck with me and the one that really did was the Olongapo scene when we 1st played there with the Youth For Crust kids at the 2nd Aural Massacre. We didn't had any acquaintances there but the guys from Down From the Wound and Dissimulate welcomed us with open arms. The YFC kids even met some Girl, Gina was her name, who was cool enough to buy us a case of red horse and nuts. She even offered a place to stay. Wow! and the venue was really awesome, it was an old condemned building  with only the facade still standing. The inside was really torn down inside and the bar was the only thing making the place. The Crowd was cool, the Metal heads even cared to give us some shots with their alcohol and me being the only alcoholic of the N.P.A. kids i kinda drank the shots intended for em. The Place got wild every time a band played, the Olongapo kids are brutal, even gurls mosh and kick asses. It was great seeing new friends moshing to the songs of Nuclear Punishment and YFC. That for me is one of the best shows ever. All the Gigs of NP and YFC are memorable for me, and everytime I think back at the places I've been all I want is to come back there to brutalize the place all over again. I guess there are always crazy things that happen at every gig… like the time the YFC kids hooked up 2 girls at a show and we took them home. also this one time I took a girl home after the Vivisick gig. I wont mention some other goreventures and names coz some of the band members of NxPx and YFC will be compromised… some of them have girlfriends and wives.

Mike • Olongapo, Batangas, Q.C. Makati... Almost every gig. But my personal favorite was in batangas city (lions). Where everyone's throwing their chairs at our set. Damn that was one fuckin happy moment hehehe

Rommel - 2004 batangas city lions was one of the best there were two hundred thousand moshing kids, that was cool hehehe, I never get disappointed whenever we go to 'gapo its always fun to be there and oh CAVITE hc fest2 was fun as well.

two of your members are straightedge, are there any conflicts when it comes to the other members' habits and lifestyles?

Coni: there is no problem with the sXe kids… I respect their choices and yea we are all friends so there is no problem. I don't force em to smoke weed and share a shot of my alcohol. They also respect me on my drinking habits coz they know im no dumb fuck drunk. I just get high and that's that. It's all about choices and my choice is to respect their choices. There is no fucking discrimination. Its what makes us deviate from stagnation. We respect Choices…

Mike • Hey, i was a straightedge before and then i became an alcoholic.. Later, i decided to go back being a straight edge again so 3 of us now are straight edge. Right? hehehe fuck it Anyway.. amazingly there's no conflict at all in fact, we shared our thoughts together everytime our good ole buddies wore on a drinking/drugs session. Its nothing at all we respect what they do as they respect us. Just plain old happenings.

Rommel - I don't do drugs smoke or drink thing is I don't wanna be tagged as sxe. i just do my thing and we just respect each others view on doin that kind of shit, there's absolutely no conflict.

give us your most recent playlists / stuff you're into right now.

Coni• Currently I've been into a lot of fast musick but still i love to listen to crap id always listen to

•Necrophagist-Onset to putrefaction/Epitaph

Rommel - to be honest this is my fave part of the inty, im into necrophagist {ol uv us are into it} mastodon{leviathan, blood mountain} nasum{RIP} isis, origin, sin, beneath the massacre, loc, pig destroyer, Hendrix shit, isvarah, the end, cannibal corpse{kill}, decapitated{nihility], the red chord, sky chuch{urge}, death by stereo{ABALOS CREW}, burst[origo], dragon fuckin force hehehe. Old lamb of  god shits, good clean fun. There's a lot.

are you still active with YFC and your other bands? what keeps you occupied when not playing/jamming with NP?

Coni: Yea im still with the Youth For Crust Kids. I love playing Fast shit with old friends. every time YFC plays, I feel like it was the ist day we Played at our bankrupt friend's  house. It's always 2003. Drunk with gin and Redhorse, and always High with Marijuana and such. right now I am settin my mind to get a job, hopefully as soon as you 'r reading this. We try to hang-out, watch DVDs, listening to shit, watch me drink beer and have good conversation every time we can… we don't want this thing to be obligational… we are all in it to play brutal musick as always, its our Passion! As for the other guys in NP… Romel is having a Crash course at Fetal Abortion. John and Paolo is still with Feud. Mike is… Hell! fuck mike! Haha

your thoughts on the current situation of the Philippines - cops, the election, problems and money issues, etc. - be honest and don't pull any punches, he he...

coni• Fuck cops!!! And One big Buttfuck to the Whole System!!! Dammit I still cant get my N.B.I. clearance coz of some cops arrested me back in 2000 for some dope that wasn't mine, they fucking planted it. Up to now I still go to hearings just to show I'm a good citizen and yet 6 yrs have passed and nothings happening. Fuck those cops!!! Why can't they let kids have fun. I still can't get a decent job. Those fucking cops are just fucked up like their superiors and the government that wont let us set up gigs.

Voting?... I hate voting… coz its always between a giant douche and a turd sandwich… I've seen past elections and nothing really changes for the better. Politics is just business nowadays. They just want to earn more fucking money… speaking of w/c… yea I got really bad shit with money… I don't like it that much but fuck every one needs money to live in the real world. Every time we go out to play the problem was always money. I guess that's why some of us got jobs to make ends meet and fuel this passion of ours.

Mike• I'LL FOR VOTE MANNY PACQUAIO!! FUCK YOU ANTI-ANTIGOVERNMENT  PEOPLE, If metal is evil, so is the government. EVIL RULES! hahaha (just kiddin)

Rommel-money runs everything as I see it politics, cops, church ill just piss my self more if I comment more on this issue for that nuff sed

Nuclear Punishment/Isvarah/Prayer of Endurance/Forgiveness Denied
New Names For Old Desires 4-Way Split CD
Major Malfunction/Delusion of Terror/Takefour Collective

Jeff Karbow

This four way split features four metallic hardcore/metalcore bands from the Philippines. The first band on the split is Cavite's Nuclear Punishment, who some say they are a cross between Gehenna and Obituary and draw more from the metal side of things than anything else. Manila's Isvarah are a metalcore band with a bit of thrash and hardcore thrown in for good measure. Baguio's Prayer of Endurance are another metalcore band with influences ranging from straight metal to metallic hardcore. Forgiveness Denied from Batangas are also a metalcore band. Aside from all bands being influenced heavily by metal, most of the guys seem to be straight edge although I think Isvarah have members that like to drink.

In total there are 21 tracks which breaks down to every band contributing 5 except for Forgiveness Denied, who contributed their final recording to this split. In all there is well over an hours worth of music, and most of it is pretty fucking good. Without question the most enjoyable band on this split was Nuclear Punishment. Not only are their songs well crafted and crushing but of all the bands on the split, they had the best recording hands down. I really enjoy how they are able to turn songs upside down, going from a nice chugging part to a sweet technical part. Another upside for these guys are the harsh, visceral vocals. And to keep the compliments coming, I really enjoyed the off the wall lyrics!

The second band Isvarah, who as I mentioned were metalcore but liked to add in some thrash and hardcore. I enjoy them but at times their songs seem to drag on a bit. And it's not as though their songs are really all that long (typically 3-4 minutes) but sometimes their thrashier riffs become a bit boring. Their vocalist has a good set of pipes on him though, I enjoy his delivery. They throw some pretty good breakdowns in their songs which helps to keep the energy up.

Behind Nuclear Punishment, Prayer of Endurance had the best riffing. I would say they are the most straight up metalcore of the bunch. The vocals are decent but after awhile they can become a bit monotonous but hey at least their isn't any of that nut ass clean singing garbage. Their recording leaves a bit to be desired unfortunately. It's not unbearable but it sounds a bit rough. The drums sound really rigid, the vocals are too low in the mix and the bass could also use a little more work.

Forgiveness Denied were one of the bands that left a bitter sweet taste in my mouth. Their songs were pretty fucking good, had some cool transitions and weird but awesome breakdowns (the breakdown in "Harsh Reality" almost sounds like some music that was in Ichi The Killer) but the bitterness came from the recording. The drums, ESPECIALLY the bass drum, sounded horrible. It was a bit of the recording but also the drummers ability (or lack thereof). Other than that I enjoyed their quirky and at times technical take on metalcore.

The labels that were involved with this release did a nice job putting together this release. The double sided, five page booklet is printed on standard stock gloss paper and looks really good. Each band gets two panels which were used to display the lyrics for each song, credits and a piece of artwork. The additional panels are used for the front cover and the other is a collage with photos of each band and their name.

Rating: 3.8/5
Songs Worthy of Replay: (FD) "Harsh Reality", (NP) "Turbo Kabaong Showcase", (POE) "Messiah Complex", (I) "Fear Is The Limit"
Synopsis: Overall this is a quality split. There are some less than stellar songs on here but for the most part it's good stuff. The recording isn't great across the board but the layout ALMOST makes up for it. I recommend it...

"New Names For Old Desires" is a brand new 4 way split CD featuring 4 of the coolest hardcore/metal bands of the current Philippines' scene. It was released by 3 cool local labels and the guy that also runs MAJOR MALFUNCTION fanzine sent me some copies some weeks ago...

First of all, I must say that the layout/artwork is fucking professional, including a 10 pages colored booklet with lyrics, drawings and all the details you need to know about the bands. Each band contributes 5 songs, except of one that delivers 6 ones, so 21 songs in total, and more than an hour of music.

1st band is Nuclear Punishment from Cavite. They play ultra metallic hardcore, or may I say just insane brutal death metal?! They take influences from the mighty Obituary and the likes, so please do not except something close to your favorite hardcore / punk band, you know the deal.

Next we have Manila's Isvarah; I think that this band is the coolest and most "hardcore" one of this 4 way split. I really like their style, described as dark and brutal hardcore. They remind me a bit of Integrity and the likes. Very cool band, check them out undoubtedly. They now feature the drummer of Sauna, another cool band from Philippines... Some of you may remember their split with Bystorm, that World's Appreciated Kitsch Records had brought for you in Greece...

The third band is Prayer Of Endurance from Baguio. Taking influences from bands like Heaven Shall Burn, Cataract, Darkest Hour etc, they manage to become one of Philippines' best modern metallic hardcore band. To be honest, I'm not too much into their style, I find it a bit boring... You know songs that last more than 3 minutes are ultra boring for me, hehe!

Last but not least, we have Forgiveness Denied from Batangas. I think that they are the oldest band of the 4 included in this split, since they are in the scene for 6-7 years. They are into straight edge metalcore, playing a mix of All Out War, Heaven Shall Burn and Buried Alive.

All in all we have an amazing split, representing well the hardcore/metal scene of Philippines. What is the most inspiring thing is that the scene there seems to be very united & strong and no matter what each band's style is, they all strive for hardcore. Congratulations to the guys that brought this brutal piece of plastic to the world.
