Current mood: drunk
Category: Music
We've finally got to the final stages of our album. After months of toiling away on a secluded wine farm in Stellenbosch (it probably would have gotten done much quicker if we hadn't moved the studio to a wine farm in the first place, or discovered the joys of SSX Tricky on PS2 for that matter) we are polishing off the last few beats. All that needs to be done now is to get June Rashava to record the vocals and for us to finish programming the break-beat track that we want to open the abum with. This probably would have happened weeks ago but everytime I go to June's studio to work we end up getting drunk and watching talk-shows.
We're really happy to announce that we have decided to release the album through Nexus Media. We join the ranks alongside the finest in SA trance, Shift and Slug, as well as israeli duo Abomination. Hydraglyph/Nexus Media holiday greeting cards will be available online shortly. No, they won't.
It's almost time to head off to Montreal to play the Soma New Years Eve party and ring in 2007 in style! This is our debut gig in North America and we're really looking forward to it. We've already started doing bookings for next year. I don't want to give away too much just yet, but for now I can confirm that we'll be performing live in Germany, Austria, Belgium and the UK in the first few months of next year.

You go to hear an orchestra with your girlfriend, and while she listens to the beautiful music, you calculate the polyphony required to reproduce it. 38. In addition to your in and out trays at work, you also have one marked 'thru'. 37. Last Christmas you synced your Christmas tree lights to your TB-303. 36. Your girlfriend/wife drapes a wig over your favorite synth to remind you what she looks like. 32. You step out of your studio and realize that your family moved and you don't have a clue when it happened. 31. You have "Frequency" and "Resonance" tattooed above your nipples. You rush over to the brand new synth on display, fiddle for 5 minutes, declare it "a piece of crap" and then go on to tell the company reps how it works, where the PCM samples came from, and offer to do them better samples from your own analog wardrobes all in a very loud voice. They give you an embroidered tour jacket on the condition that you go away NOW. (see 11) 8. Synth manufacturers call YOU for technical support. 7. So, we've finally started work on our 2nd album. After our tour this summmer we've got loads of new ideas!
To people expecting something that they've heard from us before... you're probably gonna be quite surprised when you hear it. After more than 6 years of writing fullon trance, we couldn't in good conscience unleash yet another fullon album into a genre currently drowning in it's own fullon-ness. So while there's still gonna be a selection of dancefloor killers (fuck, that word is starting to sound as stale to me as fullon trance does), there's gonna be a lot more groovy, hip-swaying tracks, and even some breakbeat.
We're not playing any more live shows until it's finished, so the next time you hear us, it'll be all our new material! Hopefully we'll be able to get some samples up on myspace soon. Watch this space!

Hydraglyph - Kinetic Thursday February 02nd 2006, by Nic Psy
So while I normally don't write about full-on-dancefloor-breaking albums or psytrance in general, I figure I'll make an exception for this album.
Keeping alive the theory that South Africans are born with the ability to write the most ripping basslines, Hydraglyph's new album is possibly the most exciting psytrance release I've heard since Converting Vegetarians. These guys have a unique approach to writing their tracks, something that is damn hard in the over-formulaic world of psy. While they show their softer side on the albums final track, the rest of this album just doesn't let up at any point. But this certainly isn't the result of too much noise, and what makes this album really stand out is how finely crafted and light the tracks remain, even though they would make any dancefloor in the world explode. The real standout however is the remix of NiN's The Hand That Feeds, which in a genre full of cheesey and generally half-assed remix/covers, absolutely rocks.
If you love your psy, this album should blow you away. If you don't love your psy, this is the album that will make you love it.

Reviewed by Dave Mac:
"Hydraglyph first made waves back in 2002/3 with some interesting GMS and Nano influenced tunes – an early indication of their potential. However it was their trip to Brazil last year that was the real turning point for Mark and Andrew. They arrived back with an evolved sound full of sexiness and banging beats – one that has truly been rocking dance floors all summer long. Kinetic transforms their killer live set to cd and if you've enjoyed them outdoors you will definitely enjoy their debut album. One gets the feeling that they're never short of ideas on this mid morning stomper. It's a sound that is very NOW, and its probably the most accessible South Africa release thus far. No cheese and no attempts to sound like anyone else either! The album deserves to do well and Hydraglyph should make a huge impact this summer in Europe"
