We must remember April 20th, 1999.
Cassie didn't come home that day. Her brother found a poem, left on her desk at home.
She wrote these words,
"Now I have given up on everything else. I have found it to be the only way to really know Christ and to experience the mighty power that brought Him back to life again, and to find out what it means to suffer and to die with Him. So, whatever it takes I will be one who lives in the fresh newness of life of those who are alive from the dead."
Earlier that day, Cassie was in her school library reading her Bible. She didn't know that her school was under siege.
"Do you believe in God?" That was the question from one heavily armed gunman.
"Yes, I believe in God," she said, in a voice strong enough to be heard by classmates under tables and desks.
"Why?" the gunmen in a long black trench coast laughed.
He raised his gun and then shot Cassie Bernall.
April 19th is the anniversary of the Oklahoma bombing. April 20th is the anniversary of the Columbine High School murders. Now we will remember April 16 and the campus of Virginia Tech University
We must remember that April 20th represents Littleton, Colorado school. Never forget, the face of that school is Cassie and 14 people that lost their life that day.
Never should our schools be a battlefield of:
crime;
anger;
hate;
racism of color;
racism of religious faith;
and racism of difference.
Cassie, the 14 others and YOU are important. Todayuse your gift of LIFE to do what is right to help others. Remember the violence that these April anniversary dates represent, must stop.
May there never be another shooting in a school again. This coming week may we all LISTEN, LEARN and RESPECT people more.
It is my conclusion that when you RESPECT God, you will REPECT people. Without the RESPECT of God we are a lost people.
