http://www.sickdrummermagazine.com/index.php/news/...TONIGHT! Friday December 18th - Cephalic Carnage and all of Colorado's best death metal acts are converging on Cervantes Ballroom in Denver, CO.
It's about death metal, medicinal marijuana exposure and education. So bring your med-cards, (and your headbanging skills) and get ready to grind till your teeth hurt.
Among the featured bands are Denver veterans Satan's Host, Albuquerque's elder statesmen Laughing Dog, the chaotic stylings of Denver's Clinging to the Trees of a Forest Fire, the hate and fury from Wyoming's Deadspeak, and the brutal riffage of Denver's Scalafrea... just to name a few.
It's a two stage 20 band event, so no wait time for the crowd. Just pure death metal and grind with 20 bands and no set-up or sound check deadtime. So if you are in Denver, go to this show and get brutal.

Interview with Jaska Raatikainen - Children of Bodom
by: Marisa Connelly December 2009
Sitting on a tour bus at four in the afternoon is a noticeably quiet
and serene experience... The only noise was the cathartic humming of
the generator. Apparently, everyone was still sleeping except for my
interviewee, Jaska of Children of Bodom. Despite having been awakened
by his tour manager to meet with me, he was bright eyed and friendly,
and still in his Batman pajamas.
SDM: Why did you guys decide to compile a cover album? Or was it Spinefarm Records' idea?
Jaska: Well, it was our idea because we had been doing these cover
sessions like for whatever tribute albums. The last three or four
albums we have made there has always been cover songs, and we just
realized that we have so many cover songs, it would be nice to collect
them as a whole, like one package.
SDM: What was your favorite cover to play?
Jaska: Well, I really much like the Creedence Clearwater Revival cover. It's hilarious!
SDM: Were all the cover songs easier or harder for you to do as a drummer?
Jaska: Well, there was the Slayer song, that was quite hard to play
for me. I think for everybody it wasn't that easy. We did it like the
original version is, but then there's a few songs that are not that
hard to play, but to put it in CoB style was difficult. But I don't
know what was the easiest. Maybe Andrew W.K. was easy to me.
SDM: Any difficulty adapting to other drummers' styles?
Jaska: Well, yeah, like Anthrax was a pain in the ass, and some of
the 80's rock songs, because I'm not that style at all. I think that I
just played the song like it was supposed to be, but there's no sense
of feeling like there is in the original song.

Starting
a North American tour is always an exciting thing for me. I have toured
around the globe many times now with Megadeth, and while it's all great
for different reasons (and I do love all of it), touring in North
America makes me feel a bit more comfortable in certain ways. I enjoy
being on a tour bus quite a bit, as really it is our "home away from
home" and with the fall season here, that means I can watch NFL
football - Always an important thing for me :) Anyways, enough of that.
Here is a small glimpse at my life on the road.

The third and final Halloween Treat from Sick Drummer Magazine and John Longstreth!
Skinless Drum Tracks: People usually say two things to me about "From Sacrifice to Survival". The first is "why is there singing on a Skinless record?", and the second is "great album, but I can't hear the drums". So, here are 5 "drums only" versions of the Sacrifice songs. One of them is a George Torres era song, so you can hear how things developed from ep to lp.
Enjoy ~ John Longstreth

Read The Whole Interview!
Soulfly was scheduled to enter a studio in Los Angeles, California on 11/6/09 to begin recording their new album for an early 2010 release. The group's bassist, Bobby Burns, writes on Soulfly's official forum, "We've been playing together better than ever in recent times and we're all really excited to get to work on the new shit!"
Craig Sternberg had the chance to interview Joe Nunez recently... Enjoy!
SDM: What's the latest with the new Soulfly record? How far along are you guys?
Joe: Max has put together the songs and picked out what he wanted to do. Now we're basically just listening to what ideas he has and we're going to work from there. We're in the beginning phases of it, although Max is probably in the advanced stages. We'll put it together real soon.
SDM: Do you have an idea of when the album will come out?
Joe: No, I have no idea.
SDM: Is there any specific goal you have in mind for this record that you are setting out to accomplish?
Joe: Well, until I hear what he has in mind, I do want to venture out a little bit more. Not do the same thing we did on Dark Ages and Conquer, they are really heavy metal albums, but for me I like to bust out of the plateaus you get into when you put out a good record. Like Reign in Blood, they did that record and when they came out with the new record, it's like, are they supposed to repeat and do Reign in Blood part two? So, same thing with me, in the sense that I want to be able to do something creative and fresh, a new sound for this new record. Read The Whole Interview!
