What is "it" that draws us toward certain people?  What intrigues us to want to know more?

Is it their talent? Beauty? Personality? Charisma? Presence? The fact that they are women that can captivate audiences with their performances? Or is it because they have created a new sound?

Oh boy...Pre-gig workoutEducational tools at Bishop Museum..Wow...Tiki, there is something different about you....

Since "Mai," "T," and "J" became a part of the local music scene with their individual bands, Keahiwai, Milo Shade and Kanalo/Simple Souls, these three ladies have showcased their vocal and lyrical talents.  From the beginning, they have focused on musical growth, grabbing the bull by its horns and challenging themselves to create a new sound...."MighTy J Music"..and that is exactly what it is: Mai, T and J music.  They categorize their music as "Local Contemporary Pop." Their 13 original tracks (12 off their debut album "Calling Out" and 1 free download available on their website www.mightyjmusic.com) reflect each of them as individuals.  Individuals with different writing styles and different musical influences...collaborating to form the sound of MTJ. Each track touches a different genre, while lyrics address heartfelt emotions and life experiences.

After watching them go through the making of this brilliant album, I can tell you that "MighTy J" is their passion.. a passion that they truly believe in.  They are proud of what they have created and it's apparent. If you've had the privilege of listening to their music, reading their blogs, watching their vidcasts (MighTy J TV), interviews, websites, performances, etc.. you know what I'm talking about.  Although Mai, T and J are humble individuals, I know that they are extremely grateful for the fans that have appreciated and embraced MTJ music.

What I love about each of them, is that they are very different individuals.  Since the early stages of this project, I have seen them grow and mature as artists, performers and as people. They each have an addicting, confident charisma about them and are not afraid to just "be themselves." They know how to work hard, how to keep things in perspective and how to have fun, all while enjoying the journey.  In my opinion, they are role models.  I admire and respect their willingness to be innovators, setting aside all the vulnerability that coincides with change.  As a trio, they share similar vision. A vision of expression without boundaries..

It's been an honor of mine to document their adventure, as they travel on this path of success.

Current mood:  productive

Well, since we didn't post ANY blogs yet, I thought I'd add my flava...

First of all, thanks to everyone that has left a comment or added Mighty J as a friend.  It's nice to hear positive responses from all of you!  Also, please don't mind if you don't see a comment you've sent -- I'm the one that deletes them!  I tend to remove the html comments that have big pictures because it takes longer to open our page.  Please send us comments in text and we'll post it!!! :)  Just know that we see all your comments and appreciate the effort made in sending them!

So what is Mighty J?  Tiki put all our names together:  Mailani (MAI), Tiki (T) and Jenn (J) and tah dah!!!  Mighty J.  Wow Tiks!   Sorry eh?   So easy, but so hard.  Doctor Trey dubbed us as "a collaborative effort in harmony."  I truly believe it.  3 women from 3 different musical groups getting together to put together a project that I think really shows our creativity and versatility.  Of course, with a collaboration project, it's only natural that we put that extra order of DIVAness on the table.  LOL.

And y'all HAVE to know...Tiki and Mailani are a BLAST!  We've been trying to get together regularly to "bond" (for lack of a better word -- goodness, that sounds like such a manly word when used like this, doesn't it?) and keep the creative process of the project fresh.  A project is EXTREMELY fun to record when you love the people you're working with and I'm having LOTS and LOTS of it!  Well... if you're watching our Mighty J TV vidcasts, you'll see that it's not ALL fun and games, but really.... the end results of each moment of frustration is true exhilaration.  We love hammin' it up on and off stage and I never realized how mento the 3 of us really were until we started to hang out.

And it's refreshing to be able to write whatever comes to mind, whether it be what we may have going through at the time, what a friend is going through, or just something we want to say AND be able to record it.  Granted, we may not get radio airplay on a lot of the material in the album, but we're hoping people buy it knowing that we put our hearts and souls into each note we play and sing on it.

Well, that's just a little something I was thinking about... served on a platter, in the form of a blog... scrambled.   Maybe the next blog we post will be given OVER EASY... :P

PEACE OUT HOMIES!
