So I might come off as an asshole to the sensitive folks out here but being a member of the local hip-hop scene I have began to notice a few things that are pissing me off. Attention rappers! I'm here to help you and myself, I'm sick of hearing bullshit music! Let's start out with the beat. So-called producers, just because "you" made the beat doesn't mean anybody will like it. I've been making beats for over 10 years, I've dropped my fair share of "duds", the trick is to know when your beat is garbage. You may be a local artist but that doesn't mean you gotta sound local. And Rappers do not give these lazy no-talent having producers the time of day, the beat is the first thing people care about. If you don't believe me turn on your fucking radio. And MC's please compensate your producers in some way, they work just as hard as you, if not harder. Next we will go with quality. If your cd sounds like shit no one will want to hear it. Just cuz you got Pro Tools, doesn't mean you know how to use the shit. And also it doesn't mean you understand how to mix your levels and eq your shit. And if you didn't know, which I know many of you don't, that red light on the master output is not suppose to turn on. Red lights make you stop, they usually tell you warning. They don't mean good job turn man that shit up more. That means you're distorting the sound and it sounds terrible. Take your cheap ass to a studio and pay someone who knows what they're doing. And now on to the rappers. 1st, if you can't understand how to land on a beat correctly with your words, please fucking quit. If you can't do this naturally than you should go back to school and get a degree because rappin just ain't for you. And if you can do this than way to go buddy! Now just write some actually thought out lyrics and you'll be straight. Please be creative and don't lie about shit. If you were rich than why are you trying to get an extra hour of studio time for the free. Fuck you, I don't need to be lied to. Don't try to do the cool thing, do your thing. I will be the first to say I've tried to be someone I wasn't at times when I was growing up, and really there's no reason for that. I'm not here to say I'm the best or even close to it at anything I do, but I think I do a decent job at it. This may just be a bunch of bullshit to you, or to someone not doing this music. I just think if you're gonna do it, do it right.
Thanks for your time,
-Nix-

I was just looking at pics from the Red Tape release party and that shit made me think about all that's happened in the last 2 years. If any of you have been following the music and going to shows, you've seen this shit turn from open mics to shows to cds and a lot of other good shit. it makes me proud to be a part of it and proud of all my people that are a part of it. All of us who do these shows and work together on the the music tip, we were all just dudes doing the same shit, rapping. Out of mutual respect for each others craft we decided to work together. Just from that, it's made everyone push harder, and develop family type friendships. That's crazy. I just had had to speak on that for a minute.
Cheers,
