news 2.11.2009
Welcome to the first news update for www.mykelboyd.com
You will be able to follow my work here and find documentation of previous efforts.

Here are some things that have happened in the last few months to catch everyone up.

October 17th to October 24th
I toured from Chicago to Dallas with Winters in Osaka.
Most of the shows and cities are a blur at this point. I did meet some great people and hope to go back soon.
House of Tinnitus in Denton ,TX has to be the single greatest venue I have ever visited.

I have performed solo twice since returning from this tour.

The first was on November 20th, 2008 in Chicago @  Sonotheque for signs of apocalypse  / rapture book release with Zelionople. You can find info on this book here.
It features artwork from Bill Viola, Ed Ruscha, Richard Misrach, Fred Tomaselli, Julie Mehretu, the Starn twins and more.
Two audio cd's with Sonic Youth, OM, SunnO))), Yakuza, Zelienople, Death Unit, Jana Hunter, Matteah Baim and ME!
thanks to Front Forty Press for the support and for including me in this.The second performance was on January 9th, 2009 in Chicago, IL @ Heaven Gallery
I opened for Aymeric Hainaux from France. His performance was one of my favorites in a long time.
Using his mouth and a microphone he put on a great display of dada/hip-hop beat box chaos.
His set the next night at the Empty Bottle was just as wonderful.

I also performed twice with my  project Bokeh.
We played on November 12th and 22nd, 2008 @ my favorite Chicago venue Enemy.

Which brings us to...........Current news:
I have stopped performing live for a while to focus on the creation of several upcoming releases.
My first solo cd will be release by CIP  this fall.
I have yet to title this beast, but all will come together at some point.

Bokeh
There are 2 Bokeh releases in the works. One will include re-mixes from some notable names.

Robin Storey was once a member of Zoviet France. Now he records under Rapoon. He creates beautiful ethno ambient sounds.
Mykel Boyd once saw Zoviet France perform. He makes recordings of things and then alters them to sound like planes taking off.

Here is an update of current and upcoming projects.
The letterpress prints for the artists edition of "Radio interference from unknown orgasm" are on the way to UK to be signed by Val Denham.

The booklets and traycards look great and are on the way to the cd pressing plant to be assembled. I think I should have the finished product in 2 weeks.

Almost ready to go the the mastering lab and the printer is the irr.app.(ext.) / mykel boyd split 7". Pre-orders will be available soon. Artists edition will have one 10" letterpress print by each artist.

Soon after will be Vertonen/Mykel Boyd collaboration 12" and Rapoon/ Mykel Boyd 12"

The Francisco Lopez/Mykel Boyd Lathe cut 10" is selling fast. If you want one , you know the drill.

Mykel Boyd
There's nothing but bird sounds on "Oiseaux Part Five," Mykel Boyd's side of a split eight-inch record he released on his Somnimage label, but you'd never know it from listening to the thing. Boyd, a local sound artist, has used a combination of acoustic and electronic processes to transform his source material into layered and deeply involving musique concrete, with jet-engine whooshes and electronic whistles folding into each other against a backdrop that sounds like a distant choir. For tonight's performance, using four small tape players and some contact mikes, he'll blend looped field recordings of fire, water, wind, and stones with the ringing of a bowed brass bowl. Jason Soliday and the trio of Jason Roebke, Guillermo Gregorio, and Brian Labycz open. On Sunday, May 13, Boyd performs live on the WLUW radio show Something Else, at 88.7 FM or wluw.org from 10 PM till 2 AM.
