UFC 74 Predictions courtesy of Damon "Beast" Daniels and ChrisZacher (not sure if Chris has a cool nickname yet).

..> ..>
 The Preamble
 The Zacher Factor
 Beast
Let's just get to the picks already.
Well, well, well…so it's time for another edition of The Zacher Factor vs. I.M.O.S.H.O.  It's nearing the end of August, it's hot as hell, and on a personal note, I've been out here for a full year (okay, it'll be a year on the 26th, but close enough!).  I probably won't be as light-hearted as I've been off my apple juice for some time now.  That and I've been walking around this place with a big-ass chip on my shoulder.  Or is it the axe I keep beside my chair?  Seriously…I keep an axe beside my chair.  It's primarily used as a prop.  It keeps certain people from bothering me for too long.  But for the ladies, they seem to enjoy it, so it keeps them around me for a while.  Heh, heh…something about a man carrying an axe, I suppose.  Getting back on track, you all are about to witness a massacre.  I intend to use my words and predictions as an axe, and chop Mr. Zacher down to midget-like proportions.  No disrespect to midgets, though.

UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture (15-8) vs. Gabriel Gonzaga (8-1)
 Beast - Couture
Zacher - Gonzaga
Here we are…the final showdown. The reason we are all here now. The Natural vs. Napao. Age and Experience vs. Youth and Intensity. I'll agree that Gonzaga is a better fighter than the one dimensional CroCop, however, CroCop is the same guy that got KO'd by Kevin Randleman, a one-dimensional wrestler. Couture has all the tools to hand Gonzaga his first defeat in the UFC. His striking is a lot better than what it was against Rodriguez and Barnett, and his all-around dominance and control is second only to Fedor. Yes, I said it. Second only to Fedor. And if anyone is calling foul on that one, just remember, while no one has done it yet, Fedor CAN be KO'd. Fedor CAN be dominated (see Fujita and Lindland, please). You'll see Randy break Gonzaga down round after round, until Gonzaga's will to win is completely and totally in possession of Randy 'The Natural' Couture.      This of course is the main event, and in it is the man I called would beat Cro Cop (by ground and pound, not by the mean high kick though), and who I feel is going to win this fight. I mean come on people, I know Randy has godhood status amongst some of you all, and hey I like him too, but you can not ignore the past, and what the man has said on his own. He felt Cro Cop would have been a better opponent  for him then Gonzaga, and you can thank that to two people Ricco Rodriguez and Josh Barnett. Randy always has had a hard time with heavier world class grapplers, and that is what's going to happen this time.

I think this fight is going to put Randy into permanent retirement, unless of course someone is holding a belt in the LHW division that he could beat, then maybe he can be handed a title shot…again.

170 lbs.: Georges St. Pierre (13-2) vs. Josh Koscheck (9-1)
 Zacher - St. Pierre
 Beast - Koscheck
Ok this fight is something I am looking forward to. Both of these fighters have so many good qualities that this fight has all of the makings of a war. No wait, let me think again, naw I take that back. How the hell could it be a war on Josh Koscheck's part when he couldn't even move against a fighter who has a bad case of staph infection? There was nothing more horrible then that fight. Josh looked more scared then I would look if I was confronted by Josh K for writing this. But you know what, fighters fight slow fights sometimes, but to act like Side Show Bob from the Simpsons afterwards, jumping around acting like you just broke a fighter who was unbeatable before is just lame.

In my opinion, I think Diego would of won that fight if he would not have had staph. GSP is not going just circle Josh, he is going to engage him, and I really don't think that Josh's wrestling, although good, will not be good enough to finish it on the ground. I am going to call it, GSP TKO/KO Rd 1. Afterwards Josh will be laying on the ground like that episode of The Simpsons where Side Show Bob was drunk and passed out, but this time just add a cheesy mouth piece that had KOS written on it.

"Diego had a staph infection!  That's why he lost!"  Get real!  I guess that staph infection is what made Diego try to start a fight at the weigh-ins, huh?  If the infection was so bad, why did he fight?  No honor in fighting wounded like that.  To say it was a bad fight is just wrong.  Kos had his game plan, and executed it.  He didn't have to do much, because he knew in order for Diego to win the fight, he had to take him down.  Fat chance.  Just like GSP is not going to take Kos down.  He's not going to knock Kos out, either.  Kos is going to take GSP down, then begin unleashing a hell to rival that of a malicious Fedor.  Not to say Kos is on Fedor's level, but the beating he'll unleash on GSP is going to be extremely brutal and unforgiving.  And he won't gas out either.  I'm going to go out on a limb and hope for a war, but in the end, it'll be Josh Koscheck vs. the winner of Matt Hughes and Matt Serra.  GSP is going to really need his Sports Shrink after this fight.  The abuse will be thorough and complete.

155 lbs.: Joe Stevenson (27-7) vs. Kurt Pellegrino (10-2)
 Zacher - Stevenson
 Beast - Pellegrino
The main lesson to walk away form this fight is the fact that no matter how much you dye your hair, or look like some raver got lost and found themselves in a UFC cage, it does not mean you will beat Joe "daddy" Stevenson.

Joe Stevenson is the future UFC LW champ; yeah you heard it here first. Joe at 170 is lazy, and not in shape, Joe at 155 is in shape and probably IMO one of the best LWs out there. I think he could beat many of the top tens if pitted against them, and the thing is he has so much experience and is so young! I hope after this fight the rumored BJ fight will happen, so that Stevenson can take the belt. Oh if you noticed I haven't talked about Kurt, nothing bad about the guy, he just doesn't stand a chance.

All right ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.  It's time for another episode of "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong".  On today's episode, Chris calls out to the high heavens that Joe 'daddy' (with all lower-case letters) Stevenson will be the next LW champ.   After a fit of laughter, I wipe the tears from my eyes and begin to settle in.  Joe will not be champ.  Why?  No hands.  Yeah, he's a good wrestler and is strong as hell, however, that's it.  Kurt is a BJJ fighter.  The ground is his world.  Oh, and he is an enthusiastic wrestler as well.  Enthusiastic, meaning he loves to slam people, too.  I say to all, look forward to an all out war, with Kurt's multi-colored hair and hand raised.  Kurt by Unanimous Decision.  And to say that Joe would beat Penn is an insult.  If I were there right now, I'd have to throw one of my Harry Potter books at you!

185 lbs.: Kendall Grove (8-3) vs. Patrick Cote (10-4)
Zacher - Grove  Beast - Cote
Kendall Grove is on fire, while Cote is just trying to score wins to get a win in the UFC. He is currently 1-4 in the UFC, and has scored some wins in smaller shows scattered in between his UFC appearances. Kendall on the other hand has become a 100% better fighter since he was in The Ultimate Fighter Season 4, and has crushed the two opponents in front of him.

Ladies and gents, this fight is going to be nasty for Cote. Grove is going to come in there and want to crush Cote, while Cote is going to be wondering why he can't set the pace, and will end up a human wreck afterwards. Maybe afterwards he can come back to Colorado Springs CO , and get that free meal he was promised the first time out here. Hopefully after this loss we won't have to see Cote in the UFC anymore. The way he was acting after the Smith fight was just as lame as the fight itself.

Now, now, Chris.  I would hardly say that Kendall is "on fire" with only two fights.  Let's keep it real.  Who in the hell has Grove fought since coming into the UFC?  His toughest test to date was Ed Herman.  It went the distance.  Cote has got the big fight experience, and nothing left to lose.  Yeah, he beat Scott Smith, and yeah, he's 1-4.  But…Tito is no slouch.  Doerkson is no slouch.  Lutter is not a slouch.  Come on, now.  Against the more aggressive fighter, Grove isn't a standout.  Against Joe Riggs, KO.  Against Savant Young, he was choked out.  Against Hector Ramirez (yeah the one Forrest just tooled), KO.  There comes a time when you've gotta sit and let reality hit you dead on.  Cote by TKO in the second round.

155 lbs.: Roger Huerta (18-1-1) vs. Alberto Crane (8-0)
 Zacher - Huerta
 Beast - Crane
Okay, do I need to even type the reasons why Huerta is going to take this fight? Really, you want me to? Fine then, here we go.

First things first, I think it is obvious this guys is being molded to be the next big UFC star aimed at the Hispanic demo graph. Not to knock him, but he is definitely being handed wins, with opponents who are undefeated, but have not been tested by the likes of Huerta. Crane did have one win again Vasquez, but the main reason he got that is because Vasquez injured his knee in the fight. I will chalk this to Huerta via being fed an opponent. Hopefully he will learn his lesson from his last fight, and not take him lightly in the first round.

Now, I can almost agree that 'El Matador' is being spoon-fed opponents. However, Mr. Zacher, I believe Crane is going to cause Dana to pump his brakes on the Huerta train via surprise submission. Let's say something like a…rear naked choke. Looking at fight histories and such, Crane has taken some time off. Dude's probably been training, as he owns two BJJ schools in New Mexico, so you can only imagine, if he's so well versed that he's got not one, but two schools, he is a very dangerous opponent for Huerta. I say that Huerta is going to come out swinging for the fences, get taken down, then put to sleep. The audience will be completely stunned, and much like one Houston Alexander in the light-heavies, there will be yet another force to be reckoned with in the lightweight division. Submission in the first by Crane.

UFC Fight Night 10 Predictions
Tuesday, June 12
The Seminole Hotel Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida
Spike TV

Fightcard:
Spencer Fisher vs. Sam Stout
Jon Fitch vs. Roan Carneiro
Drew McFedries vs. Jordan Radev
Jason Black vs. Thiago Tavares
Luigi Fioravanti vs. Forrest Petz
Pete Spratt vs. Tamdan McCrory
Gleison Tibau vs. Jeff Cox
Chad Reiner vs. Steve Bruno
Nate Mohr vs. Luke Caudillo

Predictions:

We are lucky enough at MMAbuzz.com to have users with MMA knowledge. Not just MMA knowledge, but more like the Jedi Knights of MMA. These guys can use the force and see into the future and tell the rest of us what is going to happen. Two of those users are Chris Zacher (of the Zacher Factor) and Damon Daniels (who did a stellar job in his UFC 71 post-fight analysis).

These two were given the task of predictining the upcoming Ultimate Fight Night. MMAbuzz gave each of them a fighter then asked them to tell us why that fighter would win. This made these guys (sometimes) pick against who they "REALLY" thought would win and made them tell us why a guy who they may not of thought would win "COULD" win.

It turned out great (as you will soon tell.) So....on to the predictions.

Also, please feel free to make your own predictions here:

JORDAN RADEV vs. DREW MCFEDRIES

Drew MeFredries (Damon Daniels)
I'm sooo going with Drew on this one. This dude is a banger, and so long as he maintains his composure and doesn't burn out in the first 45 seconds, he'll win this one by knockout, for sure. I love watching this dude fight.

Jordan Radev (Chris Zacher)
First off, not only is Jordan Radev going to beat Mcfedrie, but McFerie's cardio is going to kick his own ass!

First thing is that Radev is a frigging beast! He is from the whole clan of Eastern European wrestlers that are bad asses in themselves. I mean think of that Russian guy from Street Fighter 2, and there you go. I don't mean his looks; I just mean that uber mean strength that fighters like Fedora has. Yeah say it out loud with me "I will crush you." .......man I love Rocky 4.

Jordan has an impressive 11-1 record, with a nice mixture of subs, TKOs, and decisions. What really turned people's heads is when he won the 2H@H "Road to Japan" tourney after only three days notice. Not only that, but he came in weighing around 193, and the tournament was a 205 one!

Now don't get me wrong, McFredries hits hard, but the only time he seems to knock people out is when they stand right in front of them and let him! This will not happen with Jordan. I see Jordan ending this in the first, or second due to Mcfedries throwing punches like Jordan slept with is wife and getting gassed, while Jordan subs him. In the end, we will all learn, that eventually fighters like Robbie Lawler and Drew who pound there chest like King Kong, and have highlight real KO's will eventually lose to a fighter who can implement a game plan. We will see that happen in this fight too.

Oh, you will also see Damon cry when he spills his apple juice after watching the fight go as I call it.

JASON BLACK vs. THIAGO TAVARES

Jason Black (Chris Zacher)
This fight has me very interested, for many different reasons.

Jason Black, for the longest time was a 170 lb fighter, and many people feel that the whole reason he never fought in the UFC before, was because a good teammate of his, Matt Hughes was at the time the champ, and the match makers of the UFC pretty much thought that if Jason Black would fight in the UFC, then he would pretty much be the number one contender, and it would clog up the UFC WW division. So then Jason Black and his management team thought a good place for him to go to was Pride's 160 lb division. Well a lot of people wondered if he could make the cut, and in the end he did. He scored one win, then faced what many feel is a top 5 LW Shinya Aoki.

Well to say the least I was surprised when I heard he would be fighting in the UFC and in the 155 LB division no less! His opponent is Thiago Thavares who sports an impressive 12-0 record.

I think that Jason Black is just way too strong, and on a higher level of competition then Thiago is used to facing. I think Jason will bring a pace, and a level of ground strength that Thiago can't handle.

Do you all really want to know what the worst part of this whole match up is? Thiago is going to lose to a guy who wears pink leopard shorts in the ring. I wonder if he will wear that in the UFC. If he does, Thiago is going to be seriously scarred for life.

Thiago Tavares (Damon Daniels)
While Mr. Black has been fighting since 2000, and has fought some decent veterans, I am expecting Thiago to have his hand raised. He's got youth, athleticism, and from what I've researched, an arsenal that comes with dangerous Muay Thai, and good BJJ to use against Mr. Black's wrestling and decent submission skills. And judging by the fact that only two of Thiago's fights have gone to the scorecards, I'm going to say he wins this one by submission in the first frame.

The remainder of the card may not be televised, but one fight of interest for me is Pete Spratt against 6'4 Tamdan McCrory. I would love to see what Tamdan brings to the table as far as ability. He's currently 9-0, according to the UFC site; however, everywhere else, he's a debut, so that will be an interesting fight, for sure. He's got a funny personality as well. The nerd with a lot of pent up anger. While I'm not sure about the anger part, he's kinda reminiscent of one Corey Hill on national TV (as far as the pro debut)! LOL!

ROAN CARNEIRO vs. JON FITCH

Roan Carneiro (Damon Daniels)
I'm going to take the unpopular vote and go with Roan on this one. While Fitch has a beaten such notables as Thiago Alves, Josh Burkman, and Shonie Carter, I can see Roan pulling the upset via slick submission, provided he makes it out of the first round. Having fought (and lost) the likes of Ryo Chonnan and the current middleweight champ, Anderson Silva, he knows a thing or two about tough times, and obviously, tougher opponents. I don't think anyone expected him to beat Clementi. The same is possible for this fight. Submission win, mid to late second round.

Jon Fitch (Chris Zacher)
How can anyone think that Jon Fitch will lose this fight? This guy is the future of the WW division Roan has nothing to even use to defend against the mass beating that is going to happen. I mean come on, do I even need to state the fact that Fitch is on one hell of a winning streak, while Roan, who I will admit is a good fighter, has lost 2 of his last 5 fights.

I want to compare this to many ass beatings in human history, so here we go, Rocky vs Mr. T. in Rocky 3, Mr. Miyagi vs Cobra Kai when they were wearing the skeleton costumes on Halloween, The Allies vs The Nazis in WW2, The guy from the movie Fists of the North Star vs those weird post apocalyptic bad guys...HIIIYA.

I will leave it at this, rumor is if, no wait I mean when, Fitch wins this, and he will face Karo. Oh yeah.

In all seriousness, Fitch's wrestling skill, and the new stand up skills he has picked up at American Kick Boxing academy are going to be way to much for Roan, and many WWs in the UFC to handle.

SAM STOUT vs. SPENCER FISHER

Sam Stout (Chris Zacher)
This fight to me can go either way, very easily, but I seriously think though that Sam Stout will walk out with the win again. I know their first match was very short notice for Spencer, plus he had to cut something around 20 lbs to make weight, and in the end the fight was a very close fight.

There are two why I feel Sam will win, one, he is such a more accurate pinpoint striker, who has one of the best striking coaches around now, Shawn Thompkins. Second, Spencer got KTFO for the first time in his last fight with Hermes Franca, and sometimes fighters never come back form that, and to me I feel Spencer is one of those guys. Some people say that in his fight against Matt Wiman, that he was losing it until he got cocky, which I can't honestly comment on because I barely remember the fight.

I think this time Sam is more confident in his skills against Spencer, and the way that team Thompkins has been training with Team Quest now, I think seriously that Spence can't even phase him on the ground. I think Sam has grown as a fighter, where Spencer has just kind of flat lined.

You ever seen a man crying while drinking apple juice, while watching a UFN in Iraq? No you say? Well I tell you what, you get someone in Damon's unit to record him during the fights, and I am sure you will see while my pics bring me to the enlightened for on MMA god hood!!!!!!

Now I am going to go back and play some Dungeons and Dragons.

Spencer Fisher (Damon Daniels)
This is going to be a great fight, in my opinion, as both fighters will be going at full speed. My pick is going to be Fisher for this one. There first bout was a good one, although Fisher had to quickly cut to lightweight after fighting just two weeks prior. You'll notice how quickly he fatigued in that fight due to the cut. You can bet your last dollar that he won't gas out this time. I don't expect this fight to go the distance. For one, he's going to take the same approach as Chuckles and seek to avenge that loss. Two, Stout is not that good on his back, and that is exactly where Fisher is going to put him. From there, it'll be sub-city. Fisher by submission, round two.

MMAbuzz.com had the opportunity to interview The Ultimate Fighter 5®'s Noah Thomas. Noah grew up in Colorado Springs and now lives in Fort Collins, where he also goes to college.

How has your life changed since The Ultimate Fighter®?
To tell you the truth, The Ultimate Fighter really hasn't changed much outside of the fight world. Still do the same things, go to school, train, you know what I mean. It's just a different level of competition you know.  They definitely helped me realize what I need to do, what I need to go over. Other than that day to day life really hasn't changed that much.

Do people recognize you more out in public now?
In various circles; fight promotions places like that. I'll be walking through a grocery store and not get a second glance.

We've seen seven episodes of The Ultimate Fighter, and it seems Team Penn (which you were on) seemed pretty disorganized.
I totally disagree.

Is that just the way they edited it?
No, BJ let us pretty much do whatever we wanted.  He help us, instruct us, and coaches us, but at the same time he understood that we were our own fighters and he's not gonna change us in a matter of two weeks and make us new fighters, that takes years.  It was just different coaching styles. Unorganized? I don't think so. People were unprepared? Maybe..well...Yes.

Like the fighters?
Some of the fighters were unprepared. Myself, I was unprepared for that level of competition.   I am better prepared now that I have been in that level of competition. It's kind of; some people are just thrown in there. Gabe Reudiger, he wasn't prepared, obviously. Some people weren't prepared mentally.

noah_ii.jpg So this week's episode you were featured with the street fight. What was your take on the street fight after being involved with it, and then seeing it on TV?
I really wish I could have walked away from that, at the time being I didn't, you know, from my point of view I didn't see a way out of it. Now that I look back at I see I could walk away from it. It's something that happened. I've learn from it I'm not a big advocate of street fighting, I don't like it. I felt backed into a corner, I felt like a dog that had to either gets squashed or bite. I'm not saying it was right. But that's what I did and I have to live with it.  I totally don't advocate my actions, it was a wrong decision to make at the time. I wish it had never happened, but it did. And I'm just going forward from there.

It seems like after the fight that you and Marlon were cool you shook hands it seemed like there were no hard feelings.
It's kind of like after a kid does something wrong before he is punished. He kind of knows it's coming, you know he messed up, the dog pissed in the middle of the living room, he knows he messed up. He kind of doesn't want to do anymore to make it worse. I don't hate the guy he just chose to put his hands on me at the wrong time and place. Me being a person that can take a lot of stuff. I think I showed that with Tony DeSouza. He smashed on me for a while, he didn't really hurt me, but just smashed me for a little bit grappling. I guess everyone has that certain trigger. Marlon was very good at hitting my trigger. I regret it completely. I'm sad it had to go down like that.

Do you think you have to do more with the booze that Marlon drank or were you guys just bored?
I think a lot has to do with his , uhh, he didn't drink as much as he said. He was intoxicated. I'm sure he was, but I think it wasn't only to the level of his intoxication but also his pursuing an antagonizing. Everything combined, you know what I mean? It takes a lot of ingredients to make a cake and he put all the right ingredients in there. And that's what happened.

Do you think the UFC will get you differently now that is as happened? Do you think they will punish you for this?
They've already punished us. Of course they will look at us differently. It's not what were about or what were supposed to be about. They don't advocate it, I don't advocate it, and it's something that happened. And hey you know most people in life are lucky enough to not have to go through a street fight. Marlon brags on having 300 and then goes on record as saying he doesn't advocate them. I really don't understand it. But that's what he says you know. But yeah they will look at us differently now. We realized that we didn't make the right decision but hopefully they won't further punish us. That was a pretty big punishment; getting kicked off the show is a huge deal. I can tell you right now, I can name every single person who has been kicked off the show.

noah-adam-dana.jpg

So how has the training been going since you been back? Who are your training with? Have you changed your game since you've been back?
I train with Adam Martinez in Loveland at Infinite Mixed Martial Arts ,  as usual, and all the guys from there.  Yes things have changed. I started working more on basic stuff that Rodrigo Gracie had taught me, BJ told me, and what Reagan told me. Things people have told me to work on. Just trying to fill a couple extra holes. So yeah I am definitely working on some new stuff.

When will we see you fight again?
I don't know. Hopefully June 23rd. We'll have to see.

Anyone out there you'd  like to thank who's helped you so far?
Yeah let me think. Adam Mariniez and all the guys from Loveland Martial Arts . Fightshop.tv , Tapout , MMAWeekly , Galaxy Design , Precision Plumbing and I can't remember anymore.

So how can fans get in touch with you?
Myspace (http://myspace.com/noahthered ). Best thing to do man. If you want to talk to me just send me a message on there. I check it every couple days and I usually try to get back to everybody. I apologize if I don't get back to you very quickly. You have to realize that there are a lot of people that shoot me an e-mail and I only have so much time in a day. I really try to respond to everyone I can. That's an important part of the sport the fans. Because they're what make the sport. Not me, not Dana not the UFC. Not any other promotions; the fans are the ones that run it. Of course we want to compete, we enjoyed it that's what we do but they are the reason we get to compete.

One last question what did you think of the Rampage-Liddell fight?
I was ecstatic. That's what I was hoping would happen. I did not think, I'll be honest with you, I did not think Quinton could pull it off, I didn't. As I was sitting there freaking Saturday, because I went to the fights, of course, and and I was sittin there, and he hit him with that beautiful right hook, I was ecstatic. Chuck is a great fighter  but, ummm, he just got caught up in his own game.

You were at a fight?
Yep. I like Chuck but he knocked my boy Randy out. Any guy who puts it on him like that, you kind of have to give it to him. Besides I like Quinton. I don't think he's been the same fighter since he was kneed in the face by Wanderlei. But if you look at who he's lost to:  Wanderlei, Shogun. People he lost to are like the top guys in the world. I think people forget that sometimes.

We appreciate your time and will send people your way, and looking forward to seeing you fight in the future.
I hope so too.
