Hey fellow music friends! I just read a new article on Yahoo! about the deal in songwriting and the whole songwriting crediting issue. Here's an excerpt. "It's crazy!" exclaimed Grammy-winning songwriter Diane Warren, who has written for artists such as Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Mary J. Blige. "How can someone look in the mirror and know they didn't do something and their name is on it? For money? For credit? It's a lie."
And another.... "Grammy-winning songwriter Dallas Austin says he's had a manager rave about a song Austin wrote all by himself, and then tell him, "We wanna know if we can get a piece of the pie on it because (the artist) wants to feel like she has a part ownership on the song."
You can read the whole article HERE. So what are your thoughts on that?

Green Light Go – CD Review by Amy Wong
Hawaii's own, Green Light Go's homonymous 6-years-in-the-making first album is a compilation of fun alternative pop rock fusion with bits of electronic easy listening Hawaiian drifts that make the 14-track-record fun to listen to.
The album truly begins with Track2, "Is She The One?" an inviting guitar riff introductory song with a quite catchy chorus and an alternative pop rock vibe, followed by "Multiply It!" which Kamuela Kahoano, one of the band members, described as a fun bilingual-multiplies-race-game between his then girlfriend and him.
T.R.O. is a fast-paced fun song with likable rhythms that will at least make you sing along the "Nah, Nah, Nahs". Track5 begins with "Irashaimase," "Welcome all, please enter." in Japanese, in the song "Green Light Go," an easy listening electronic pop vocal piece with yet another captivating harmony.
"Lenny and the SKIM," is a super fun funky pop song, that will make you sing along once you learn the lyrics! They talk about a guy who people confuse with a member of a band just because his name is Lenny. The chorus goes "I'm not in a band called Lenny and the SKIM/But my name is on the t-shirt/I'm just an average guy just trying to get by/But my name is on the t-shirt," and if you're a fan of Avril Lavigne's "Sk8er Boi," this song might just be your cup of tea!
The follow-up song is entitled "Richard," a soft pop song with great beats accompanied by guitars, about a guy named Richard who is apparently the singer's girlfriend's obsession, even when she's not with him anymore. "You're just a gold-digger/No way! /She's so much bigger,/I keep telling myself/ Coz I don't think it's true./You said you really,/But I know you really/Just wanna get with Richard."
We continue with the nice energetic rhythms in "Shake Your Branch," a fast-paced pop song with Hawaiian flavor that will have you nodding your head up and down. "Hey, now! /You're out of line now. / And it's time I give you a piece of my mind." Following the rhythmic songs is "Why Don't We Just Go," Track10 in the album, a cheeky bouncy pop rock piece saying, "Why don't we just go/Let's get it over with/before there's nothing, we could just make love…"
The album takes a good break in the song "Don't Know Why," an excellent breather to all the energy, and gives a nice ukulele and guitar company to Ikaika Kahoano's soothing voice. "I don't know why/I don't know how/I don't know when I'll be over you." The song is an excellent slow acoustic jam with the pinch of Hawaiian in it.
Another breather in the album is the most-Hawaiian-influenced-piece "E Ha'i Ana Wau," which I happened to not know what means. It is, however, one of my top tracks in the record. It starts with "Tell mama I'm going back to school/and I ain't gonna fool around no more," which is always a good message in any song. It then picks up strength, and delivers verses in Hawaiian, that I don't know the meaning of either… but must be something positive, right? The track is a very feel-good, positive thinking and hopeful, that is definitely different to what's on the market.
After hearing "E Ha'i Ana Wau," it is hard to hear Track13, "Star in the Skylight," the most soft pop slow jam piece in the album. To close the album, we have the most electronic bordering in techno track of the whole disc. "Beautiful Escape" is not a bad song; it just makes you wonder...
Taken as a whole, the album can be a lot of fun to listen to, and it can make great company while working on the computer. It is definitely varied in genre, and it will be hard to pigeonhole, that's why you will have to pick songs one by one, and decide if you like them or not. In my humble opinion, I've always loved a great and fun song, that's why I can say I quite enjoy the album, and will suggest it to people whom I know will be interested in something still fresh.
-- xoxo Amy
