well it's been a while but finally it begins...

I have just started to capture all the live footage I have and will spend January cutting the live songs for inclusion in the documentary....
starting off with Mach Pelican's last show...
this is exciting...

June is the deadline for completion. August is the month of Melbourne International Film Festival...

also on the search for amazing archives of photos/footage from the tote...
contact us at thevideomachine@gmail.com if you have any gold...

It's funding finding time.

I'm currently in the process of applying for completion funding in order to dedicate my time to it full time (and get a team together) and get it done! Next month marks 5 years of filming. But of course I will wait to see what the fate of the Tote is before I can truly wrap it up.

So stay tuned to find out if we are successful in our mission to fund it's completion. And by completion I mean start the edit process...

Long live the Tote!

Cheers

The Sneak Peek Preview (2006)

This is a question I get asked almost everyday. Certainly every time I step into the Tote.

To those of you keen to know, I don't have a definitive answer. Due to the unknown fate of the Tote I am reluctant to make any decisions of when to stop filming. At this stage it looks as if I will continue filming until there is an answer to the question 'what is the future of the Tote?'. If it closes, I will film to the bitter end, if leases are extended then I'll more than likely wrap it up. This is not a project to be rushed.

I also have decided to make it bigger than a 'showcase' of the Tote and dig deeper into the melbourne scene and look the impact of losing live venues and other relevant changes.

So bare with me, it will be well worth the wait.

I've recently added a few bands to the list of live sets recorded for the documentary. King Brothers from Japan, Black Lips, Eddy Current Supression Ring and Bang! Bang! Aids! were December. They were all great shows but the King Brothers have put themselves on the top of my list of favorite shows ever. If you were there, you know what I mean, for those of you who missed it I will be giving you a taste soon enough.

So the list of bands that were filmed with full sound and 3 cameras at this point reads like this: (plus interviews)

King Brothers, Black Lips, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Bang! Bang! Aids!,The Drones, Nation Blue, Spencer P Jones, The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Dan Kelly and the Alpha Males, Midnight Woolf, The Faceful, Mach Pelican (last show), Spazzys, The Casanovas, Mustang, The Great Apes, The Tashmints, The Russian Roulettes...plus soon to be filmed Pierced Arrows, The Darling Downs and The Dirtbombs.

Of course this list doesn't include footage of over 100 other bands...

So expect to see many of these in the upcoming documentary and the rest if full on the DVD! It's going to be Chockas!

Cheers

Filming started in june 2004 during the Tote's 21st Celebrations that saw bands from all generations of the Tote performing and in some cases reforming. 3 years down the track over 30 bands have been interviews, countless live shows filmed, with a handful to be included full length in the doco. Further interviews will be taking place in the coming weeks and I am on a search for old and current footage and photos of bands playing at the tote. It's a big job and The Tote is deserving of such a project. You can see a sneak peek of the Documentary, with another soon to be added to the site. Stay tuned.

Cheers

Coming out very soon is The Drones live in Madrid DVD.
The DVD also contains 3 live songs from a stinking hot show at the Tote in March 06. It's big.

It's a little taste of what's yet to come for the Tote Documentary...

soon, soon, soon
