Current mood:thankful
hello everyone!  i know it has been a while since the last update but i am still alive! ha. i have been pretty busy lately and i have slacked off a bit on the journaling...and for that i am sorry. we are finally starting to thaw out after a bitterly cold winter up here in minnesota and it is so nice to see the sun again! :)  a while back i got an e-mail from a film director in the UK named Rob Brown who liked the song "Hurricane" and he thought that clips from one of his films would be great to use as a music video for the song.  i thought that could be a cool idea.  here is the video that he put together. enjoy!  let me know what you think about it.

2008 was a year full of trials and triumphs. almost a year to the day on a cold dark morning in january i packed my family up in a rental van with a bunch of guitars and drove down to nashville to make my first record. i had no idea what the year would bring or how everything would work out. looking back now the struggles seem small and the victories sweet. i put the record on today and gave it a listen and i think we succeeded in making the record we sought out to make...a record of simple and honest songs played by people who enjoy making music with each other. this may be the end of yet another year but it is only the beginning. i want to take this time to thank all my dear friends in nashville, and minneapolis for the all the inspiration, encouragement, support and for making my family's life so sweet...there are too many to name...you know who you are!...it blows me away to have friends like you! paul, will, matt, and cason, thank you for giving your time and for pouring your hearts into the making of Darling, Maybe Someday! thank you to everyone who came out to shows and supported my music this past year...it means SO SO much! i will be doing more shows in the new year and putting a bunch of new songs into the rotation. last but certainly not least i want to thank my family for truly making this past year so sweet...i don't know what i what do with out you...every morning i wake up and even the mundane and routine seem to present new and exciting opportunities. on that note i want to leave you with a beautiful poem by Ted Kooser.

"If you can awaken
inside the familiar
and discover it new
you need never
leave home."

may all of you in this new year awaken inside the familiar and discover it new in all it's sweetness....Happy New Year!

this morning i woke up to french toast and bacon...nice. when your day starts with bacon you know it will be good.  we had this amazing breakfast this morning because my oldest son turned six today which is crazy because it seems like yesterday he was this little baby and now he is this sweet, loud, hilarious boy who is my little prince. we also awoke to a fresh blanket of snow which is always nice until you have to shovel it. right now i have a huge 'snow ramp' at the end of my driveway that the city snowplows made when they plowed this morning. now i have to build some speed to make it over the wall of snow..ah the joys of winter. tonight i am going to watch red nose the reindeer with my kids but right now i need to go outside and shovel. i will also take this time to remind you what a lovely christmas gift or stocking stuffer my record darling, maybe someday makes...wink...wink...nudge..nudge...it is chalked full of gifty goodness!...Your friends a family will be so impressed!...it reaks with class!..haha.......... shameless i know....this is akward.............haha. happy holidays!

so last night i played a show and there was some electrical problems to say the least. everytime i put my mouth on the mic it was like i got stung on the lip by a thousand hornets...okay so that may be a bit of an exageration but you get the point. there i was singing one of my love dovey missing home songs and the moment i would get comfortable and my lip would touch the mic i would catch a nasty shock to the face, yay!! hooray for facial electrocution!!!! that is one way to get a facelift. ha. it may not have been the best show technically speaking but it was still very fun. my cousins are in a band called skypiper and they were on the bill as well and they were great. so all in all it was a great night. afterwords we went to a friends house for pie and like 1am. pie will always cheer you up if you are blue. as usual i am starting to ramble so i will quit while i am ahead. ha.

last night i played at the bryant lake bowl in minneapolis. i love that place! it is one of the few places you can get some really good food see a concert or a play and go bowling...cool. i played before my friend aaron espe which is always a treat because he is so genuine and his voice and melodies are so tender and honest...yeah i said tender...i am an artist so it is okay for me to be vulnerable like that...oh crap...i just vulnerable didn't i...i better quit while i am ahead... and right after i write this blog i am going to go chop some wood or something else that is "manly" HAHA. seriously though check out his music, it is so worth buying(i have his cd in my cd player alarm clock now). it was nice to see some familiar faces and play a quiet show with just me and my trusty gibson acoustic. after the show i waged yet another battle against my arch enemy...the taco supreme...i am not proud i assure you...i wish i could say i won but i got schooled by that dirty taco!!! so deliciously schooled i might add. ha. tyler 1 taco 1 to be continued... i hope to start putting up some songs recorded at live shows as free downloads sometime in the near future on my website, will see though that kind of stuff is always easier said than done but i am going to try my best. wow this election has been so entertaining!!! it is like watching reality tv for a year straight...wow. i hate all the bickering and name calling but you have to admit the drama is pretty entertaining though. a couple posts back i put up a link to register to vote that happened to be blue and i actually got some angry e-mails just because the button was blue! haha. seriously? i can't believe that people would get ticked about something like that. too funny. on a lighter note, i had three peices of pie tonight(mmm pie) and i can already see the title of my next post ATTACK OF THE PIE part 1, volume 1. i don't know why i write so much about food but i don't plan stopping anytime soon. i hope read this blog and laugh...goodnight!

this past month i have really been missing all my friends in nashville even more than usual. lately the fall weather here in minny has really reminded me of the fall in tennesse and then i start to think the people i love down south. hopefully i will end up having some time in nashville before the end of the year that would be nice. i miss watching reality tv with will and ruthie until 3am, i miss marche with cooley, i miss the 30 foot high bonfires at will and andrea's and i miss playing guitar through the night with my friend mat in his living room. man i really need to get back to tennesee for a little while! this is totally off the subject but i just got the lyrics for all the songs on "Darling, Maybe Someday" up on tylerburkum.net better late than never right? ha. i think i am going to call some of my friends today and tell them how much i miss them.
