Hold Fast are a female fronted four piece alternative rock band who have been together since 2005, but are still relatively unknown within the music business. However things seem to be going in the right direction for Hold Fast now, as over the last year they have supported bands such as White Lies, Grammatics The Horrors, White Denim and many others. They have headlined NME club nights, been featured on BBC radio and even been featured on the cover CD of the October edition of The Playground.
The bands management have sent me a demo CD which features their new single ‘Jaws’ as well as ‘The Curse’ and ‘Lie’. The production of the CD is pretty much spot on and the sound that Hold Fast play is like Siouxsie And The Banshees crossed with the Sohodolls.
‘Jaws’ is the best track on the CD and is crammed with electronics and synthesized sounds. Roberta does a great job with her lead vocals which come across quite beautiful sounding with a slight punky edge.
‘Lie’ opens up with mellow soundscapes but soon builds up into a massive sounding track as soon as Roberta’s free flowing vocals come in. The basslines throughout the song are majorly bouncy and the overall arrangements and sound of the tune will have you tapping your foot along.
Overall I feel that Hold Fast have a lot of potential, they sure know how to craft a big catchy song together and they also know how to make a lot of noise whilst keeping everything in place and sounding good. What stands out most about Hold Fast for me is the beautiful lead vocals.

Firstly, a big thankyou to everyone who crammed in to see us rip the stage to shreds on Saturday at Southsea Fest. Afterwards we unanimously decided that it was the most fun show we'd ever played and are definately hitting up the festival again next year!
We've been working on some new material for the last few months now and have decided that it's finally time to unleash it upon the world. We'll be selling the 3-track CD at gigs for some cheep-cheep price. Tracklisting runs as follows: 1. Jaws 2. The Curse 3. Submit! (Acoustic)
Jaws has been receiving airplay on various radio stations recently and is being featured on a compilation album, released as part of The Playground Magazine where we also have a full page feature. Check it out online here: www.theplayground.co.uk Lastly, we've enjoyed playing a plethora of shows over the last 3 months and have had some amazing ones in the process. By no means are we hanging up our clogs though, as we intend to assault (possibly indecently) everyone's ears at many more venues at some point in the remainder of 2009. (Check the main page for shows).
More news to follow soon pedigree chums! Roberta, Ben, Toby and Adam x HOLD FAST.

Current mood: accomplished
"Tearing out of Portsmouth and fronted by the sweeping vocals of Roberta Collins, Hold Fast sound like a venom-injected Siouxsie and the Banshees complete with a 21st century makeover. Piecing distortion, throbbing basslines and feverish percussion set the stage for new single Jaws, laying the perfect foundations for Collins’ ice-cool tenor to provide the theatrics to a tight and concise pop song.
Having supporting the likes of White Lies, These New Puritans and White Denim, it seems like there’s more than enough for Hold Fast in the ranks of British pop-punk, and they’re more than keen to fill it. With a formidable live-reputation to boot, Hold Fast are looking like an exciting prospect for the future - but for now, this will have to suffice." The Playground Magazine – August 2009

Current mood: excited
Hi all, There are several reasons we're excited. Firstly, the ultimate geek edition of Blade Runner turned up in the post AND there was a hologram in the box! Secondly, we're playing alongside the splendid Blakfish, Venice Ahoy, Mutiny on the Bounty and Tantrums TOMORROW at Southampton Joiners for the bargain price of £6 advance. Mathematically speaking, this works out at £1.20 per band, costing less than your average sandwich. Then on Saturday, we’re heading back to Havant Arts Centre as part of an all day music fest (14+). Given that we're about as sun-proof as Robert Smith's waxwork, we have kindly been given an evening slot alongside Fresh Legs and Watermelons. Juicy. We'd love to see some familiar faces and there’s a strong possibility that our lovely "Horse" (not this one: Father Ted) will be making another appearance, after being christened by Pulled Apart By Horses. Cheers chaps, I think I still owe you an orange. Lastly, Ads found this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/blog/2009/aug/13/squirrel-canada-holiday-snap
Usual thing, drop us a line for more details and tickets. Hope to see you at one of the shows! Roberta Hold Fast xx

Thankyou to everyone who came to The New Theatre Royal gig on Thursday – we got an awesome review in the local Portsmouth rag The News the following day as a result... We have just two pairs of tickets remaining for tonight at the princely sum of £1/ticket (the face value is £7!) for the Pulled Apart By Horses show at The Cellars – we’d love to hear from anyone who wasn’t able to take up the ticket offer for The New Theatre Royal/Pulled Apart By Horses combination.
Just drop us a line here by no later than 4pm if you’d like one of the pairs – first come first served!
Thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you tonight!

Current mood: electric
Some CDs and a rather sexy book arrived in the post earlier including Madonna's "Immaculate Collection". Did anyone else see the flaming boat and cannons in Portsmouth the other week and get reminded of the "Like A Prayer" video? I nearly spat my drink out. I did enjoy the fire-dodging pirates dancing to drum n bass though. Splendid.
Anyway, to rival the raw excitement of things on fire, we're doing a special ticket deal on our next two Portsmouth shows!
Cheap as David Dickinson's tan, anyone who fancies buying
a New Theatre Royal ticket (Portsmouth, Thursday 6th August) for
£4.00 from us can also have a Cellars at Eastney ticket for Hold Fast + Pulled
Apart By Horses (Portsmouth, Monday 10th August) at the bargain
price of a £1.00 (it's £8 quid on the door). So both shows are a mere £5! Message us for tickets!
Not only that, but we have been nominated for Best Local Act in the
mINtSOUTH Awards.
We would greatly appreciate your vote! All you need to do is click the link below:

Oh, and we're finally getting T-shirts made! More on that later...
Hope you're all well
Roberta xx
P.S. We'll also have some very exciting news soon regarding a certain Playground...nothing sinister!

Current mood: bouncy
Category: Music
At the end of our set supporting The Joy Formidable at The Joiners a couple of weeks back, a very nice man spoke to us about being on his radio show. Good to his word, we’re now being played on Andrew Morrison's Dandelion Radio July show: broadcasting every day til the end of July at http://www.dandelionradio.com/andy.htm. In fact, he liked us so much he’s emailed to say he’s coming to the White Denim show at Talking Heads this Sunday (5th July).
You could meet Andrew too – we’ve been given a limited number of £5 guest list tickets for the show (door price is £11!)
So if you’d like to enjoy the show for less than half price then just drop us a line here with the number of tickets you’d like to collect on the night and we'll make sure they're set aside for you!
Doors at 7.30pm , we're on at 8.30pm.
See you there for frenetic frolics.xx
