Current mood:  excited
Our annual Solstice Show is coming up in just ten days or so, and I am EXCITED!!!!!!!!

Ok, maybe I'm not quite that excited. I'm probably exaggerating a little bit, there. But I am pretty psyched.

Why, you ask? Because the Solstice Show is my absolute favorite show of the year. And this year, we happen to be back at one of my favorite local venues, Mama's Coffee House in Birmingham. Mama's was the first place I ever performed music publicly, at a Solstice Show long, long ago!

I love this performance because we get to do tons of fun, seasonal material that we can't the rest of the time. For one night, our usual material is replaced by a completely different set list.

I never feel like winter has really begun for me until that show. And then, I welcome it with an open heart, a (hopefully) well-tuned fiddle and some fiery tunes to keep us all warm!

Hope to see some of you there...

Last night we were delighted to discover ourselves playing a great new (to us) venue.
The Celtic Kettle in Hartland Michigan.
We were blessed with a warm and lovely audience - they even laughed at our dumb jokes. We had an especially great time.
Check out The Celtic Kettle if you're looking to hear great music in a fantastic, intimate setting.
They have some nice concerts coming up.

Happy Father's Day to you all.

We will be doing a concert with the exquisitely talented Mississippi Irish Trad band - Legacy - at the Ancient Order of Hibernian's Hall in Detroit on Sunday, July 19 at 2 p.m.. This concert is the closing show of Legacy's 6th summer tour of Michigan and the first formal collaboration of us with this incredible Irish musical group.
We met this group a few years ago and became immediate good friends.
We love their music and hope that our own fans here in Michigan will help us welcome them.

Please support traditional music. It's a lonely and endangered breed of music in the face of so much pop culture, especially here in Michigan.

Finvarra's Wren
Traditional Irish Music is alive and well in Michigan. Well at least it was last weekend.
We were over-run with glorius players from all over the country for this year's Midwest Fleadh. Hundreds of them graced our state and made it a truly unforgetableand inspirational event. Next year - Chicago.

On another note, Finvarra's Wren will be playing the Ark in Ann Arbor Michigan in 2 weeks.
Hope to see you there.

This week we note the closing of the Detroit pub and restaurant Baile Corcaigh.
The Owners put tremendous amounts of love and work into this place. They often hired and suported very traditional Irish music in a city where almost no one else does.
Baile Corcaigh will be missed.

We all know that life can move at a very fast pace. This week the Swine Flu headlines are reminding us of just how fast life can change.
Perhaps it's a good time to give some thought to what is important in our lives.
Music, friends, loved ones.

Quoted from the Bob Franke song For Real -

"And there's too much darkness in an endless night
to be afraid of the way we feel;
Let's be kind to each other, not forever, but for real."
