A techno masterclass is what we’re offering in this week’s exclusive DJ mix, from a pioneer of a producer, DJ and remixer whose electronic output still sounds as fresh today as it did when he began releasing in the early nineties – Luke Slater.

After beginning to DJ in the initial phases of the acid house scene – an influence which still permeates some of his music – Slater began his recording career at Jelly Jam Records in Brighton, before going on to release a wide range of experimental techno on a variety of labels, including Novamute (which spawned the renowned albums ‘Freek Funk’ and ‘Wireless’) and Peacefrog, where he began using his (now widely recognised) Planetary Assault Systems moniker to release his harder-edged output.

A track from the Planetary Assault Systems alias – taken from the ‘Temporary Suspension’ album released earlier this year on Berlin label Ostgut Ton –also finishes up Slater’s exclusive Clash mix in glorious uncompromising fashion. The mix itself is a typically experimental affair – exploring everything from stripped-back minimal sounds to jittery synth-lines to rushes of harder beats – but one which never lets up from its techno paradigm, presented with true Slater flair.

Slater also pays homage to his many and varied electronic roots and influences, with a nod to the seminal Detroit scene and some of its key players via back-to-back tracks from Robert Hood and Jeff Mills. These blend into the sounds of contemporary techno from those who are continuing to evolve the genre, such as France’s Terrence Fixmer and James Ruskin.

Slater’s mix is, quite simply, techno heaven, purveyed by a true master of the scene

Hi All,

We're pleased to present the next Mote Evolver release - out on vinyl and digital download on 21st Sept :)

MOTE012 :: CARNAGE - ORTIN CAM
A: CARNAGE - ORTIN CAM
B: CARNAGE - THE ADVENT & INDUSTRIALYZER REMIX

Listen to the tracks via the link below:
http://www.mote-evolver.com

“I’ve been playing Ortin’s track at big gigs for quite a while at peak times, with The Advent & Industrialyzer interpreting it its great to release these two fine pieces of work that have purpose and conviction” says Luke Slater about the next release on his Mote Evolver label. The boundary-pushing mind-set Slater brings to his own Planetary Assault Systems creations is a key characteristic of the music he selects for Mote Evolver. This release from Ortin Cam a prime example.

Being an influential player within Belgium’s evergreen techno scene, Ortin Cam’s music can best be described as rousing and straight-to-the-point.  A regular contributor for leading labels such as Drumcode and Invasion, this single on Mote-Evolver represents another accolade in Cam’s upwardly mobile career.

The clue to what to expect from this record is in the title. Carnage is a highly purposeful, no-holes-barred, full force techno record. Constructed around firing snares and alternating loops of jittery and then drawn out horn snippets the overall effect is a high-octane track with a fierce rhythm and lots of tense energy.

The Advent & Industrialyzer (Kombination Research) present their combined force on the remix. The duo brings a groovier, more electronic vibe to the track; keeping the pulsing tension of the original and underpinning everything with a mechanical, hammer-like groove and multiple layers of undulating distorted acid.

Planetary Assault Systems (Ostgut Ton, Peacefrog)

There’s nothing like the gurgling, metallically clanging percussion monsters Planetary Assault Systems has been dishing out over the past twenty years. This is top notch techno, after all. But as Luke Slater’s album “Temporary Suspension” proves, it’s also a refreshing take on the fast and banging sound that PAS stands for. It comes as no surprise that Slater releases this album on the Ostgut Ton label; Slater holds a residency in the famed Berghain club. Fasten your seat belts for this relatively short (but nonetheless satisfying) mix.

Artist: Planetary Assault Systems
Titel: Temporary Suspension EP
Label: OstGut Ton
Cat.No.: o-ton 24
Release Date:
04.05.2009 (Physikalisch)
18.05.2009 (Digital)
Distribution: Kompakt

The next OstGut Ton is coming from Luke Slater.
The Brit released his first record exactly 20 years ago and has been working as an ambitious
artist under numerous pseudonyms producing a broad range of electronic music ever since. Be it tough detroit techno, obscure electronica, ambient, or conceptual electro – Slater has definitely left his stamp on the last two decades as a DJ and a producer.

After contributing a gorgeous ambient piece as The 7th Plain to our Ballet cd „Shut Up And
Dance! Updated“, Luke now is returning to OstGut Ton under his legendary techno pseudonym as Planetary Assault Systems.

The „Temporary Suspension“ EP is a taster for his forthcoming, eponymously titled album on OstGut Ton. “Planetary has always been about going forward, music and mind states working together, pushing movements and alpha waves on the dancefloor“ says Slater.

With this two-tracker he shows how Techno with a healthy dose of toughness should be done in 2009. Both „Temporary Suspension“ and „Mark Me“ are uncompromising DJ tools for the peaktime transporting the PAS spirit into the present.
