Well 2006 has come to a close and looking back it was a great year! Even with all the mishaps and "the crash". The year started a little rough with me rushing to put the old car together for the first formula d qualifier at Irwindale, ended up barely getting a cage in it in time and going out in the rain and doing horrible. Then a couple of events to get my confidence back up and went out to Qualcomm Qualifier for FD. This was my last shot and I had to qualify in the morning to even get a shot at my license that night. So after a long morning of practice and crashes, lots of crashes. I qualified first in the pre-eliminations with the highest entry speed and the closest to the wall all morning. I felt great and even had some of the judges tell me to take it easy so I wouldnt wreck the car. So I took their advise and drove safe for the actual qualifier, this resulted in a 4th place overall finish and my Formula D Pro Level License. I was so happy, I had qualified for my pro license as a total privateer, all on my own buck and with a stock ka powered s14. Its nice to have the highest entry speeds with a 140whp car against some 300+whp cars, proves that you can drive and arent just relying on the power. Well the car was happy I was happy and it showed, both of us had a glow at long beach. Happy to be there and happy to have a chance to prove myself, I was a little over confident and entered way to fast on my first practice run. Long beach is a very narrow course and it gave me little to know room for error. This resulted in the demise of the "green car". Though it is still alive and kicking, soon to have a new driver and get a facelift. Well I battled it out with my frustrations and lack of confidence for most of the rest of the season in local events. Finally got my drifting feet back under me so to speak and I feel great in the car now, knowing I would never be competitive in the stock ka powered car I picked up a new chassis for next to nothing and then built it from the ground up. Big wieght reduction and a new motor making about 100hp more than the last one will be the theme for this season. So in retrospective the 2006 season while a little disapointing taught me a lot about myself and driving and I will be back stronger than even in 2007.

Current mood:Sad/happy
So I was at the track on Sun. for a shakedown day on the new car. Wanted to make sure nothing was going to fall off or blow up :) Also wanted to start dailing in the suspension, I was so frustrated all day with the new car it just made me remember how nice it was to drive a chassis that had 2 years of development and setup in it. Not thinking too much about it since I love the motor in the new car and by the end of the day the setup started getting better and better. Then a friend of mine and Formula D driver Hiro asked me about the car and if it was sr powered? When I answered "Yeah finally stepping up with some power". He laughed and asked me "So no more KA Drift King?" I thought this was funny, Hiro is a great driver and one I have a ton of respect for and it was great to hear him call me the KA Drift King. I guess its sad in a way even though the new car is bad ass and by the end of the day even on a bad setup I was driving it better than the old car and its only going to get better as I develop the chassis and get it dailed in. But its the end of an era, instead of being the best at what I drive I am thrown into a see of drivers that have power now and make up for their lack of skill with their right foot. I only hope that I can rise above it and stand out and make all the hard work and money spent on the new car worthwhile. Look for big updates this next season and hopefully a badass setup for Formula D 2008. Oh yeah and some pro-am wins next season (cross my fingers) Below is a quick video from practice in the morning, with zero setup on the car it was a beast to drive but got a few decent runs in. Better runs up soon hopefully. Posted By:"Woody" Get this video and more at MySpace.com

So I have this car right? Well anyway its an extra car that was given to me for free, and lets say that it needs a little Tlc. So the plan is to give this car the much needed love and then sell it to turn a profit. So its been sitting at my work on in the back... I mean way back... you cant even see the car unless you are looking for it. So on friday I try to start the car because I figure what better place to start than making sure it runs like its supposed to. So I get my trusty jumper cables out and I hook them up because lets face it the car has been sitting for 2 years its battery is going to be dead. To get to the point I start the car up fires up on the second turn, great no problems here. I let the car run for a bit but since I dont have any gauges hooked up I decide to turn it off and work on it more on next monday. Well I throw my jumper cables into the beat up car and lock the doors not thinking much of it because I never use them anyway might as well be with the car that needs them. Come back to work on monday and the car is moved, okay no problem my friends moved it because a tree was going to fall on it. Then I start thinking how did they move it the door was locked and the ebrake was set, hrmm so I start asking around and apparently the door was unlocked on sat. morning. Weird but no problem it didnt really matter if it was locked it wasnt in any condition to steal and it sat for 2 years with the windows down and it didnt get stolen. So today I go to start it back up and find that my jumper cables are missing??? Not only that but the door lock is broken on the drivers side from someone breaking in, now this is really wierd because it wasnt worth breaking into its a POS. Then I borrow some jumper cables and start the car, but wait the car only runs for about 1 min and then dies. Strange it ran great the other day and nothing has changed, but wait something had changed the asshole that stole my jumper cables also syphon'd all the gas out of the car. Now tell me what kind of person breaks into a car for jumper cables and a couple of gallons of gas. Really it wasn't worth it at all especially for gas that had sat for 2 yrs and prob. wasnt worth burning in the first place. In the end the stupid thief saved me from dropping the gas tank to empty the bad gas out :) and I lost a good pair of jumper cables.

Current mood:Driftastic
Well I went out to Drift Day 31 on sun. the 5th of Feb. They were holding L3 instructor tryouts so me being an advanced driver and already talking to Naoki about wanting to help out figured this would be the perfect way to put my time in. Well there were 6 advanved drivers that tried out with 4 spots to fill so it was pretty relaxed, no real pressure with so many spots to fill and them needing the instructors. Long story short everyone did great but they decided only to fill one spot on Sun. and it went to me. So I was pretty excited and still am I get to go help out now and put my time in but I get to do it on better terms than being a straight up volunteer. I also get to go before anyone else and help with course setup and testing. It will be a lot of fun but also a lot of work, long days in the sun and no pay but I want to help out and return a little to the people that have helped me out so far in this crazy growing scene known as drifting. Thats all for now here is a video from sun. for you all to enjoy.

Well my original blog didnt post for some reason so this will be much shorter version of it :) I was at irwindale speedway on sat. to compete in the formula d feeder qualifier looking for my fd license. Unfortunately it rained and we didnt get to do the full course where I could really showcase my skills. The car was setup for a bigger higher speed course and really threw me for a loop as well as many many other people having a really tight technical course. Well I couldnt get my line down and ended making a pretty poor showing of it. I did complete the course and I didnt hit the wall which is better than 90% of the people that went but not good enough to get my licence. I wont post up my runs because they arent very exciting but for all those that didnt get to witness the carnage first hand following this long and drawn out rant is a video of just some of the crashes and mishaps as well as some of the better runs of the day. The course was so difficult that a d1 driver and judge hit the wall on the exhibition run and another judge and d1 driver couldnt even complete the course so I dont feel so bad about not getting my license it wasnt my day, I got that idea when it rained and not very much just enough to keep the track wet all day and ruin the drifting fun :) Well there is always another day and I am very happy to have avoided the walls. Special thanks to all that came out to support me and stood around in the rain and helped work on the car and such. Thanks!

Current mood: excited
I recently qualified for my drift day advanced license I have been a Just Drift advanced license holder for sometime now but the driftday.com license is a little more prestigious so I am very excited. What this means to most of you reading this...... well nothing. What it means to me is I can now participate (when I get a roll cage) in tandem drifts at normal drift day practice events not just competition. Which means I get to drift at the same time as another car making the runs much much more exciting and just a little bit more dangerous :) it also means that besides the professional drivers mine name gets posted on a very short list of drivers eligable to be advanced drifters. There are only a handful of drivers that arent pro's with this license including me in a list of only 6 in socal, a couple in the midwest and one in norcal. Just wanted to brag a little and let everyone know what was going on with me. With a little more practice and a lot more money thrown at the car I will be competing in some events in 2006 some of which will be formula d which if I qualify in the top 16 at one of those events even in the top 32 it means quite a bit of sponsorship and press opportunities and of course a chance to prove myself with the pro's. Stay tuned 2006 should be an exciting year!
