A three word name, swirling vectors on the logo, a screaming PhotoShop cover, a company specialized in metalcore and a thought in my head making a terrible headache. "Oh, not again; a metalcore band that wants to conquer the world". But I was wrong. If there are still surprises in music industry, then Mind Gone Blind is one of them. The four Scotsmen perform nothing else than classic rock. Yes classic rock of the finest quality, very much based on Gary Moyes soulful voice. You can mix Cream and Ten Years After, take their blend and mix it again with some retro bands, such as Firebird, and distil it in a "stoned" bottle and you will have a splendid malt of heavy rock. The start it's impressive and there is an interesting escalation until the self-titled track, which is simply outstanding and to my view the best one of the album. Yet since this point on there is a slight downfall, which makes the album imbalanced. Not that there are not good tracks at the rest of the album; on the contrary. But the truth is that if every song had the range of "Say You Will" or "Somebody Else", then this would be the Album of the Year in classic rock (and the members of Society would have a serious candidate). Still it is an excellent album that every fan of good heavy rock music will adore. It is a drawback that there are no lyrics, but we can live with this. Lastly a call to the Rising Records crew: Guys we want more like this. |

"This is the eagerly awaited debut album from the North East of Scotlands finest - Mine Gone Blind (MGB), a four piece band consisting of Gary Moyes (Vocals), Shane Younie (Guitar), Michael Forrest (Bass) & Rob Hendry (Drums) that owes its roots to the clubs and pubs of Elgin, Banff and the like.
Well I wasn't disappointed - from the first track to the last this album hits you right between the eyes with excellent vocals and guitar rifts from days gone but brought straight up to date with the unique sound of MGB, beware because if you like your music more 'thrashy' then this isn't for you.
The first track 'Say You Will' could have come out of the back catalogue of the likes of Free & Hendrix - yes its that good, sound clear lyrics and guitar breaks with a catchy melodic beat. 'Fragile' is a rockier track best served loud with very good vocals from Gary Moyes reminding you of being on your bike on the open road.
'Somebody Else' has haunting melodic tones showing how tightly knit this band is. 'Liars & Preachers' is the title track and showcases how good a musician Shane is on guitar along with the rest of the band, as does the rest of the album finishing off with the awesome 'Just'.
What becomes apparent from the outset is that this is a band that can play good old Rock 'n' Blues with the best of them but, although similar in style to bands both old and new, have a sound of their own. I recommend you go to their website and listen to this album.
The Unforgiven he say - 4/5

Metal Hammer magazine, album review
"With a grunge-inspired melodic rock formula and a singer who sounds like Eddie Vedder, you could be forgiven for thinking Mind Gone Blind are a Scottish Pearl Jam. However, this is no bad thing, especially when every song delivers hooks in abundance and oozes soul from every orifice."

The Chronicle series
Mind Gone Blind 'Liars and preachers'
They're frae Scotland and bloody great. They play heavy stoner rock that has a distinctive sound but wanders somewhere between the heavy blues riffage of Black Sabbath and the technically proficient rock produced by the likes of Tool. The vocals reflect the musical influences: Sabbath by way of Tool / Perfect Circle. Like Sabbath, they have scuzzy riffs, fairly simple drum patterns and sharp guitar solos that don't get too silly. Played very very loud it's great. If you like stoner / heavy rock you should order this now - it's out on 27th October on Rising Records.

Mind Gone Blind - Big Cheese review
Mind Gone Blind - Liars And Preachers
Hailing from the North East of Scotland, this fragile quartet are a breath of fresh air from all the questionable thrash and trad metal facsimiles I've encountered in the past few months, but they've got a long, lonely road ahead of them. Mind Gone Blind are an interesting corollary: They play emotionally charged melodic rock, tipping its hat towards the 70s and early 80s without bumping into the AOR behemoths, yet their dingy production forces comparisons to grunge innovators Pearl Jam and others of their ilk. Not the greatest marketing ploy. Yet their songwriting talents in particular outshine many of their more immature competitors. One to watch. 3/5

After a well earned rest over Christmas, MGB are back!! The band played two gigs in February and since then have been writing and recording some demos of new songs. We have about nine new songs at various stages, mainly early stages! Here is a list of some of them:
FRAGILE: This one is the closest one to being finished. A (very) rough demo has been recorded in MGB headquarters!
SYNCHROMESH: No lyrics yet and this is just the working title, but the music is all in place and has been demoed.
MIDLIFE CRISIS, CONVICTED, SPILL, GENERATIONS, THREE WISHES and NO IDEA are working titles of some of the others.
Mind Gone Blind will be playing the Commercial in Keith on Sunday 6th May and hope to play some of these songs for the first time!
