Hey friends,

I'm a little behind the game here due to a crazy holiday season, so some of you may already be hip to this, but Open Wide has received some great recognition from a spread of folks that I just wanted to share with y'all:

It has been nominated for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, which according to Stefan Goldmann, the only other electronic artist nominated this year, is like a German version of the Grammys, with much deeper roots, as far as musical history and styles. Pretty sweet. You can read more about it here:

http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=10021

http://www.schallplattenkritik.de/about.html

Resident Advisor has also included the album in their Top 20 of 2008, which is also a great honor, especially considering the company I'm in on the list. Check it:

http://w-ki.com/electronica/resident-advisor-top-20-albums-2008.html

And last, but certainly not least, a few encouraging words of support from some of my esteemed peers. I've been told that I'm a producer's producer, and only now starting to understand that. Word, I'll take it! :

2000 and one (Intacto): "well here we go again!!! Dave Aju finally his album and a classic for me already. such an organic and soulful style. a mixture of house, funk and hip hop. an album the way an album should be...i am jealous that it is not on my label man, hahaha!"

AME (Innervisions _Sonar Kollektiv): "one of the best electronic albums i have heard in a while. i already liked his single from last year, this gives me hope for the future:-)"

Dj Deep (Deeply Rooted): "Will definitely play B1 and D1 on my podcast ! I like this, funky and with a certain sense of humor, nice stuff !"

Dj Koze (International Pony): "a great album. really loving it. reminds me of parliament..."

Jesse rose (Dubsided): "what a great album! much respect from me!"

Jimpster (Freerange): "Bonkers..... but brilliant. "

Josh wink (Ovum) "different! And I like. Kind of moodyman-ish..."

Laurent Garnier (F-Com): "great shit ....funky fucked up shit ... loooove this shit !!!!"

Matthias Tanzmann (Moon Harbour): "super album! funky!"

Mike Shannon (Cynosure, Wagon Repair): "A great album full of originality and surprises all the way through. Some great lyrics to add the icing on the cake. Truly a wonderful album! "

Nick Hoppner (My My,Playhouse): "I like Dave's eclecticism a lot. He manages to throw jazz and lots of other influences into the pot, without ever running the risk of sounding too "jazzy". very original, he da man!"

Seuil (Einmalens, Minibar): "Dave Aju always had this soul and weird feeling in his music...from his context work to his Circus Company eps..he keep his sensitive music in a floorway. This time...full of voices, and acoustic feelings he kicks hard...congratz!"

Truly humbling and infinitely rewarding, I guess what you put in you do get out eventually. Cheers to all the supporters, and take note to the haters and nay-sayers. Much love to all of you and a happy 2009, let's keep it going strong folks!

Yours,
theDA

Hey friends,

Finally got around to posting two more tracks off the album for your listening pleasure. 'Tapatio' is the undisputed bass-monster party jam of the album, and 'First Love' heads in the opposite direction, a deep and personal voyage into my musical history via album/song titles, vibed-out to the fullest. Enjoy!

Also, a quick note on the vinyl version of the album: Unfortunately there were some mishaps with the labeling and mastering, so sides B and C are mixed up, matching the CD/MP3 tracklisting, not the LP jacket/labels, and the overall sound is extra compressed and even bassier (imagine that! ;-) so mind your eq and bassbins. We're hoping to have these remedied for the 2nd pressings, coming out soon. And of course in the meantime, the album is readily available digitally at your favorite download store, and on CD format as well, complete with a lyrics sheet and fold-out poster booklet.

Hope you're all doing well.

Love,
the DA

Just a few quick updates for the fall season...

My debut Album, Open Wide, is dropping next week, and should be available at most of your favorite record shops and online boutiques. The 2x12" vinyl version contains the full versions of all tracks except 'Crazy Place' which will be the edit version as heard on my page here (the recent single 12" release has the full, extended cut). The CD and MP3 versions of the album include full versions of all songs + the Luciano Remix from the single as a bonus track. Jeah!

In support of the release, I'm touring in EU for most of October, if you are near any of the cities/dates, come say hi and get down with us! All dates will be live performances this time, and for my stateside friends, I'll be hitting a few US cities as well in Nov/Dec, so stay tuned.

I mentioned awhile back how excited I was about being signed to a new label, and since the first EP is now ready for release, the wait is over: it is none other than Accidental Records, flagship label of Matthew Herbert. First up for this exciting and promising alliance is a varied three-tracker called the Down-Home EP, which should be out very soon!

Hope you all had a great summer, let's make some noise for the rest of 2008...Musically, Creatively, and most importantly - especially for we Americans - Politically!

Love,
The DA

Without further ado, finally posted a new track to check out. It's an edit of the first single off my upcoming album Open Wide, and was released this week in the full extended 12" version w/ a great remix by Luciano on the flip. It's my version of a sort of cosmic disco synth-boogie slow-burner, and like all the songs on the album, it was made entirely with my mouth, and approaches a sub-style of music i love but hadn't touched on previously. Hope you enjoy, the album will be out in September!

First of all, the Love Always EP was such a great success, thanks to everyone for your support! glad you are feeling it...we can use all the Sun we can get right now. My debut full-length LP for Circus, "Open Wide" (a reference to the broad musical diversity and the use of only my mouth for all the sounds on the album), will be out soon, as well as some remixes and tracks for a few new labels, and an EP for a certain label i'm very excited about later in the year. I'll be touring in support of the album this spring and summer, so i hope to see some of you around. If you're interested in booking a dj set and/or a live performance, please contact jessica@lessizmore.com.

Happy 2008 my friends, let's go! make music, make art, make love, make history.

And if you're interested in having me play at your event on one of the open dates, please contact jessica@lessizmore.com.

This is a remix i recently did for Def'child records, Ruoho Ruotsi's label, the man behind the fantastic remix of Steve Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians" last year. The original artist is Max Branslokker from Latvia, who is not only a talented producer, but a real nice guy, especially for letting me near his work and generally flipping the track, complete with Sonny Ray inspired vocals from the Invisible Art Trio. The EP also features two other original tracks from Max, as well as a sweet, refined electro-dub remix from Siladi's Circuit73; it should be available on vinyl and digitally very soon, cop it! Also coming soon is my new EP for Circus Company, which is another collaboration with the Invisible Art Trio entitled "Love Always." Stayed tuned!
love and respect,
