it doesn't usually happen this way, but the end section of this song came to me while I was sleeping, in a dream:
in this dream i was in a circle of barrel-top gypsy-style wagons, possibly in Romania,
an old guy got my attention by throwing carrots at me,
he then walked over a sang the last refrain of the song,
he sang loud at point blank range
he told me that it was a Muddy Waters tune
i'm not sure about the accuracy of that last bit
it seems unlikely

it was still with me when i woke

it's taken a while to get the recording together,
it wouldn't have happened the same without my incomparable dedication and creative input of my talented friend and colleague,
Mr Gary Lloyd (producer/composer extraordinaire)

I've put some new songs on my page,
Here are the lyrics to the first one:

Wild Wild World - David Greenald

There you stand alone upon the wire
Risen like the phoenix from the fire

Sheltering from rain and safe from danger
Cradled like Messiahs in a manger

One day from your sleep a cry will wake you
If you take your time, then time will take you

Skies are turning black and stars are falling
Listen to the wind, the wind is calling

In a Wild Wild World
In a Wild Wild World
In a Wild Wild World
In a Wild Wild World

The Meadow – David Greenald

I lay down on the meadow, you lay down by my side,

Meteorites could not reach you, ah! but darlin' I tried,

And while there's sun in the sky, while there's light in the day,

While there's moon in your eye, I'll be driftin away….

I reached out to caress you, but the September wind,

Soon became a tornado, could not be disciplined,

Now that you've seen it all, lose me along the way,

Take me where shadows fall, and where fireflies play….

Touch me not with cool reason, plague me not with your fire,

Lay me down by still waters, walk me over the wire,

Tell me what you have found, just don't tell me that way,

I'll be somewhere around, while night follows the day….

Somewhere deep in your forest, somewhere far from the sun,

All the things that were promised, dance with all that was done,

And when the lights go down, softly you come to me,

Drive some place out of town, and it feels like we're free….

Draw me inside your circle, hold me like you won't go,

All will soon be forgiven, or lost under the snow,

Still with crosses and guns, sisters in love and hate,

One who falls as she runs, one who always will wait….

Saw your friends they were leaving, moving on down the track,

You flew over the river, could not find your way back,

Now where  rain cannot fall, and where jealousies ring,

And where now there's a wall, wider than anything ..

hope you enjoy!

there are a couple of verses missing in the live version,

we hadn't played more than once since a year before....

so more gigs please...less mistakes will follow!

this morning...my friend Emma Jones came round to do some recording with me,

''what shall we work on? '' she asked

i picked up the guitar and a new song came out... wordless but fully-formed apart from that

the words came later, after we'd recorded the essential vibration,

Emma has a remarkable voice and a miraculous ear for harmonies,

if the world doesn't hear her it will be the world's loss!

She is a blessing.

i will post this new song fairly soon...(when we are happy with the recording)

meanwhile here are the words:

Hang High the Moon

In shadows deep I now reside,

Now sun and moon have left my side

And summer rain has gone

You drift on downstream, flow so free,

At rivers end you'll find no sea

Was it you or I (who)

Drank the oceans dry?

I looked around to find you there

The moon fell down into your hair

And then November came

And carried heavy rain

Hang high the moon

The stars have blown away

And dark has fallen on the day

And left me drifting on

Where sun and rain have gone

Upon The Day                       David Greenald

a cloud was drifting high above
the moon was bright and made of love,
upon the day when light came in
i wondered where the the world had bin'

i called your name, i watched you fall
you held all heaven in your thrall
i wandered streets where moon shone bright
and wind was howlin' on the face of the night

Hello!

I recently had a remarkable opportunity to collaborate on a song.
A myspace friend (Lostdog in Loveland) contacted me and asked me if i would be interested in playing an instrument on their song entitled
'You're Lucky You're Beautiful'
They also mentioned in passing that they had managed to get Mike Garson to play piano on the song...
I'm thinking... if it's good enough for Mike Garson ...maybe i'll give it a look!
The upshot of all this is that i played some violin on the track which is posted on the Lostdog page,

www.myspace.com/lostdoginloveland

for me this is a new way of collaborating with people, sometimes strangers, sometimes people who you have admired for a long time...Mike Garson for example...by the way i highly recommend you all to visit his page where you will find some astoundingly beautiful pieces!

www.myspace.com/mikegarson

i find all this very positive and thoroughly enjoyable
