In this Issue: -Tha Gecko Brothas -Tha Priest Blog -Equilibrium Radio -Tha Uncomft'bles -Unsigned and Independent Artists -Free Music For Download "Tasters Choice"
Hope you had a wonderful summer. Mine was interesting to say the least. Lotta miles racked up and a lotta lessons learned. Now comes the fall and its time to get the Timbs out (That is unless you are from New York City where we wear Timberlands regardless of what time of year it is). Yes its time to get back to school and the college parties are in full effect. By the way, be on the lookout for The Gecko Brothas coming to a college near you this semester. We are also gonna be doing dates in the Tri-State area in November. More details on that coming soon. Tha Gecko BrothasSpeaking of Tha Gecko Brothas, there's been so much going on that I don't know where to begin. For those of you living under a rock we have released our second single off the album "From Dusk Til Dawn". The name of the single is "Tonight(It's Ok)" and we have released our music video on youtube. It features Kel Mitchell (aka Emcee Dirty Salty Nutz) And Janora Mcduffie and is another banger from them "Gecko Boyz" lol. For those of you who haven't seen the video yet here's tha link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGPf9RiVimw&feature=relatedAnd for of you who haven't downloaded the singles yet, here's tha link to get them. http://www.zshare.net/download/184476963d10963b/I also put that "New York Minute" song up in there. There are both album and radio edited versions so you can play it at your kids birthday party (LOL). Put them on your I-pod, pass them to your friends, whatever just go get that good music right now. Also if you wanted to know what Tha Gecko Brothas are really all about, go to youtube and check out our electronic press kit (E.P.K.) Here's tha link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiDGjqv6h2MWhile you are there you might wanna subscribe to our Youtube channel, leave your comments and feedback and check out some of the good things people have to say about the Gecko Brothas. Your opinions are greatly appreciated. If you missed the video shoot for our video "The Buckdown" you will be seeing it soon. All I can say is... Its gonna be savage. Just keep checking back for more info soon. Don't forget to check out the Gecko Brothas my space page at myspace.com/thageckobrothas Tha Priest Blog
I just updated the Priest Blog with a new entry. Go to http://priestforever.blogspot.com/ and check it out. There are a few other blogs and online magazines that I suggest you rock with and they are http://www.thebreezyeffect.com/ Brand new Blog that covers all aspects of Hip-Pop culture. www.msdelaleu.com/blog/ Blog from The Beautiful Stranger with insightful topics. http://www.insomniacmagazine.com/ Hip Hop journalism done by one of the industry's best. Dope. http://harlemhubris.blogspot.com/ This is one of the funniest Blogs I know. http://www.eqradio.blogspot.com/ This is the official Blog of Equilibrium Radio. A definite must see. Equilibrium Radio
And remember if you don't do anything else you have got to check out the Equilibrium radio show every Wednesday from 4pm to 6pm on WHCR 90.3 FM on your radio dial. If you live outside of the New York area or are at work you can always tune in online by logging onto www.whcr.org and clicking listen now. We play all the best music and are spinning stuff by artists like, Homeboy Sandman, Hired Gun, G.H. Squad, Mickey Facts, Kween Kash, Tha Gecko Brothas, Affion Crockett, Immortal Technique, Shonuff, Oddisee, Donnie Goines, Chandon, D Rose, Gypsy Flesh, Solid Ground, K Banger, Heston and more. Where else can you hear quality music like this? Not on mainstream radio I assure you. Tha Uncomft'bles
So in case you didn't know it my peoples Affion Crockett and John O. do these comedy sketches and spoofs. You might've caught them in the "Black Republicans" spoof where they took on Lil Wayne and Juels Santana. They are also behind the "Making Tha Band" Spoofs and even got the official co-sign from Diddy himself. Peep it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrq3yeCKkbc
Anyway they just came out with these joints with tha help of David Spates and Damaine Radcliff and I just had to pass them on to you. They are hilarious. See for yourself and be sure to subscribe to their youtube pages. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU36KhcbbEg Cockblocking part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXWIncZHPXQ Lil Wayne Jay-Z "Mr Carter" Spoof Unsigned and Independent Artists
So the thought occurred to me as I was playing a record by an artist on a major label that I really didn't like that I am having more fun playing the independent Hip Hop artists than I am playing the stuff on the majors. I talked it over with my man Kwame Vear and we decided that we gotta get more independent and unsigned Hip Hop to the people. With that being said, If you are an independent or unsigned artist who wants to get their music submitted to our radioshow, get at us. We aren't trying to charge you to be on a mixtape on no foolishness like that. All that we ask is that the material be radio edited and DOPE!!! (Any non-official wackness need not apply). Spread the word to ya mans and them to get at us and get us the music. For the address and submission information go to http://priestforever.blogspot.com/ and look at the "Another Summer" blog for the address. Free Music For Download
So I did this whole "End Of Summer Mixtape" that I was supposed to send in tha download to everyone but I still dont like it. When I am happy with it I will send it out to you but in the meantime I want you all to check out this banger by man D. Rose and DJ Cozmos entitled "Tasters Choice". D. says "It will be posted & hosted by www.rappersiknow.com tomorrow Tuesday 9/09/08 for a "LIMITED TIME" so get the get the word out & let your friends, enemies, pets, girls, pastors, er'body, let er'body know. holla." These brothas rep hard for quality Hip Hop and I'm sure you will be satisfied once you give it a listen. Til next time support ya independent Hip Hop. Current mood: blank
So this is the opening paragraph of the blog where I say how much I am sorry about not posting more often and how its just been so busy lately and how I promise to step up my blogging game and add entries more frequently and yadda yadda yadda and so on. So if we can all agree that we know that's what happens here then lets agree to just move on and act we all know that I'm gonna try to do a better job if it. Ok?
Ah, the summer that was this past summer. It was a busy time for me as I did my usual of racking up the frequent flyer miles. What were some memorable things that happened this summer? Well we shot more videos to support our album, tha radio show moved full steam ahead and the "From Dusk Til Dawn" CD kept moving units. We shot out video for our next single, "The Buckdown" and it was cool. We were doing one take and some random chick decides to jump her ass in front of the camera like she's in the group or something but other than that everything was fine. Big shouts to everyone who came through and supported. It was much appreciated.
The state of Hip Hop pretty much remained stagnant as usual with only a few decent offerings coming out this summer. I cant say that I got caught up in all tha "Little Wayne" hysteria but I can say that independent Hip Hop offered some good music that mainstream radio slept on as usual. Not that thass anything new though, radio has been sleeping for years. I am glad to see my cats in the underground stepping up to the plate. I have come to the conclusion that I am more interested in playing unsigned and independent artists than mainstream major label artists because they just seem to have a lot more substance lately. If fact, if you are an independent Hip Hop artist and would like to get your music to me for consideration for airplay on our radioshow, send me an e-mail or mp3 of your music to the address listed below.
Priest@priestforever.net Subject: Radio show submission
Please make sure that your music is radio edited. I don't have time to edit it myself so please make sure it is clean.
Tha superhero movies were in full effect this summer as well. I enjoyed "Iron Man" and was surprised at how good "The Hulk" was. Batman was a classic but Hancock was some old bullshit. Tropic Thunder was alright. I think that Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise were the funniest things in the movie but I am looking forward to "Burn After Reading". The Cohen Brothers make some funny movies. Rent "Raising Arizona" or "The Big Lebowski" if you don't believe me. I know its "No Country For Old Men" that everyone is buzzing about but I haven't seen that one yet so in my mind they are still primarily comedy directors.
I'm so glad that the football season is in full effect now. I have had these Giants fans giving me the business all summer and now it is time for my Cowboys to redeem themselves. The sad truth of the matter is that with Brady gone for the season, the NY Jets with Brett Farve now have a better chance of making the playoffs than the NY Giants do. Also big ups to Serena Williams for winning her 3rd US Open.
As for this upcoming election, all I'm gonna say about that is I'm voting, "Eric B. for President" (Clap ya hands and do what he's doing...) I know that if Obama does get elected to office, black people are gonna act like it is a national holiday. I can't wait to see it unfold, cats soming in to work late talking about "Man, its national Obama Day, I aint even supposed to be at work today!" I thought about getting some t-shirts made up if he did win that would say "Tha Black Man Wins Again!" the problem is I cant ever really figure out when we won the first time.
Other than that I'm gonna, well you know what I'm gonna say here, just keep checking back man...

Current mood: confused
Just when you get to feeling good about the direction that things are headed in, life comes and puts a foot to your ass. May is always a rough month for me with mothers day and my mothers birthday often falling in the same weekend. It's not easy for my girls either as their grandmother passed around the same time a few years ago and with their mother gone, it pretty much sucks for them too. Yesterday I was told that one of my uncles that raised me has a medical condition that they can do nothing for and today is the funeral for one of my friends that I grew up with.
I'm so sick of going to funerals.
I cant complain, cause I know I've been blessed. I realize that every time I wake up in the morning and look at my little girls. Knowing that my situation could be a lot worse doesn't always make it easy though. I've come a long way to be the person I am and everyday is a struggle for me just as it is for everyone else. Its a struggle however, that's made even more difficult when you are faced with the loss of someone you know.
I understand that we all must go someday but I think about all of the people that I have lost over time and its really heartbreaking. I've lost more family and friends than some people have ever had. Now, I know you would think to say "Well at least you had all of those people in your life." I recognize that, but at a point that doesn't bring you any comfort. After awhile its as if the very things that are supposed to console you, such as the memories of the times you had with your loved ones, end up being the very things that bring you pain.
I wonder sometimes if I am selfish for not wanting to let people go. I'll clue you in to a little secret about me. I was born with the ability to emotionally detach myself from a person if when I can logically justify the reason for doing it. I can have someone be my best friend in the world or the closest family member but once they cross that line with me its as if they never existed. So what I cant understand is why is it easier for me to act as if someone I might've been close to and fell out with is dead but when someone in my life really does pass on, I am so affected by it.
I believe that me being the control freak that I am, it is because the people that I've lost were taken from me and I never got to make peace with that. Looking at it like that though, only reinforces my belief that it is selfishness and makes me feel even more conflicted in the end.
If its about finding a balance I have yet to find it and I wonder if anyone ever does.
P.F.

Wow, what a month
Aside from seeing another birthday come and go, I have had the pleasure of seeing the independent release of my latest project. I feel like I could just pass out from being so tired but the grind continues. There were a lot of good things that happened this March and that makes me feel very optimistic about the future. We got some solid support from people and a lot of positive feedback about the material. There is still much work to be done though.
Sadly I will have to remix and re-master the album but it is enough for heads to get the idea and that is a good thing. What’s important is that we were able to accomplish something that the system tries to tell you cant be done. There is so much good independent music out there that never gets heard but what artists have to do is learn how to do for self. Self reliance, cooperative economics, even the bartering system all comes into play when you are trying to do things yourself. Maybe you dont have the money to pay someone but what can you do for them in return? I’m not suggesting anything crazy, I’m just pointing out that you can help people and they will help you in return. These are the actions that form solid friendships that last through time.
I dont have enough time to list everyone but I do wanna thank the Equilibrium Radio Team and all of our supporters and sponsors who helped out this past month. Whether you came to one of the shows, gave items for the gift bags or helped spread the word about the material your actions were appreciated. Thanks to all of the promoters and venues that held us down as well. We look forward to coming back and playing these places again so be on the lookout. Remember that the summer is coming and we intend to bring nothing but heat! I’m keeping it brief cause I’m about to get some sleep but I will be posting video of the shows soon for all to see.
Thanks for your support
Priest Forever
