Sun God- "(s)pain" EP
"Whoa! Members of 9 Shocks Terror, Insurrect, and Homostupids have gotten together to play some grunge-influenced , kinda dirty, kinda poppy, and somewhat epic shit that's hard to pin down. This could be compared to any number of early- '90s grunge bands with a heavy stoner rock influence. I'll keep this review short and to the point- this EP fucking rocks. You'll probably want to check this out." - Brian Dooley

Sun God "(S)pain" 7"

Melodic hard-rock from Cleveland featuring ex-Nine Shocks Terror guitar
slinger Kevin (and the current line-up of which has Dale from
Homostupids on drums, in my opinion one of the most underappreciated
drummers out there). "(S)Pain" is rife with guitar leads and recalls
maybe the really early Kyuss days, but with more of a predeliction for
pop melody. Not super heavy, but still definitley rock. B-Side gets a
bit more emotional, I'm thinking sped-up indie-rock with some weight to
it. Husker Du mixed with Screaming Trees or something. It's not a sound
you hear done a lot these days, bordeline maninstream, tightly played
and peppered with hooks. Not at all what you're expecting, and you
can't help but get into it somewhat. From what I've been told (and
heard live) the band has evolved past the recordings here, so this may
not be an accurate reflection of their current sound, but I found it an
interesting exercise in technically savvy guitar-centric rock. Mature
stuff that proves you can do things with Flying V's other than smash
them over people's heads.(RK)

SUN GOD:
(S)Pain: 7” EP
Shimmery, poppy punk neck deep in Hüsker-land, right down to the drony
guitar leads, crossed with some nods to early Samiam. What they put
down here might not be as tight as some of their influences, but they
sure as hell make up for it in delivery. –Jimmy Alvarado
