In addition to being a stage performer, I have been an active leader in education and fund-raising efforts for HIV/AIDS and Awareness.
IT HITS CLOSE TO HOME ! I was first expose to AIDS in 1987 when my Cousin Debbie was Diagnose with FULL blown AIDS. She was a Heroin addicted , she got it from sharing needles and died in 1996.
HIV is the human immunodeficiency virus that causes AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). When HIV infects someone, the virus enters the body and begins to multiply and attack immune cells that normally protect us from disease. Eventually the body's immune system breaks down and is unable to fight off so-called "opportunistic infections" and other illnesses, ranging from pneumonia and cancer to blindness and dementia. It's only when someone with HIV begins to experience these specific infections and illnesses that they're diagnosed with AIDS.
Between 40,000 and 50,000 Americans become infected with HIV every year. Half of them are between the ages of 13 and 24. That means at least two teenagers and young adults in this country are infected with HIV every hour of every day.
Most young people who are HIV-infected don't know it, which means they can't take important steps to protect other people or to get the medical care they need.
HIV is scary stuff. There is still no cure and no vaccine to prevent AIDS.
AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. It is a disease in which the body's immune system breaks down and is unable to fight off infections, known as "opportunistic infections," and other illnesses that take advantage of a weakened immune system.
Practicing safer sex will also help you avoid other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), many of which can increase your risk of contracting HIV or giving it to someone else.
HIV/AIDS doesn't discriminate. That means that anyone who engages in risk behavior can become infected with HIV. But the epidemic has taken an especially heavy toll on some groups of young people, especially African American and Latino youth, young women, and young men who have sex with men (whether or not they identify themselves as gay).
HIV/AIDS isn't the only sexually transmitted disease (STD) young people have to worry about. There's a virtual alphabet soup of STDs floating around out there, including chlamydia, genital warts, gonorrhea, herpes, and syphilis. Three million teenagers contract STDs each year. That's about one out of every four teens who are sexually active.
AIDS is still a fatal disease for which there is no cure and no vaccine. New medications are helping many people with HIV/AIDS live longer, healthier lives, but the combination or "cocktail" treatments don't work for everyone. They're very expensive and often cause serious side effects. And because HIV mutates (or changes its genetic structure) constantly, the virus often develops resistance, and the medications become ineffective. In the U.S., 10% to 20% of people newly infected with HIV are acquiring strains of the virus that don't respond to the best available treatments. The bottom line? Don't have sex without a condom.
Do you know whether or where to get an HIV test?
Some people develop mild, temporary flu-like symptoms or persistent swollen glands immediately after becoming HIV-infected. But even if you look and feel healthy, you may be infected. If you think there's any chance you may have been exposed to HIV, you should get tested as soon as possible. Most HIV tests involve taking a blood sample, and you can get tested by your doctor, at local health department clinics, or at hospitals. In addition, many states offer anonymous HIV testing. It's important to get tested at a place that provides counseling, because counselors can help you understand what your test results mean, answer questions about how to protect yourself and others, and refer you to local HIV-related resources.
How quickly do people infected with HIV develop AIDS?
In some people, the T-cell decline and opportunistic infections that signal AIDS develop soon after infection with HIV. But most people do not develop symptoms for 10 to 12 years, and a few remain symptom-free for much longer. As with most diseases, early medical care can help prolong a person's life.
How is HIV not transmitted?
HIV is not an easy virus to pass from one person to another. It is not transmitted through food or air (for instance, by coughing or sneezing). There has never been a case where a person was infected by a household member, relative, co-worker, or friend through casual or everyday contact such as sharing eating utensils or bathroom facilities, or through hugging or kissing. (Most scientists agree that while HIV transmission through deep or prolonged "French" kissing may be possible, it would be extremely unlikely.) Here in the U.S., screening the blood supply for HIV has virtually eliminated the risk of infection through blood transfusions (and you cannot get HIV from giving blood at a blood bank or other established blood collection center). Sweat, tears, vomit, feces, and urine do contain HIV, but have not been reported to transmit the disease (apart from two cases involving transmission from fecal matter via cut skin). Mosquitoes, fleas, and other insects do not transmit HIV.
Can you tell whether someone has HIV or AIDS?
You cannot tell by looking at someone whether he or she is infected with HIV or has AIDS. An infected person can appear completely healthy. But anyone infected with HIV can infect other people, even if they have no symptoms.
How can I know if I'm infected?
Immediately after infection, some people may develop mild, temporary flu-like symptoms or persistently swollen glands. Even if you look and feel healthy, you may be infected. The only way to know your HIV status for sure is to be tested for HIV antibodies-proteins the body produces in an effort to fight off infection. This usually requires a blood sample. If a person's blood has HIV antibodies, that means the person is infected.
The National AIDS Hotline can answer questions about HIV testing and refer you to testing sites in your area. Operators are available toll-free, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at:

People Everyone’s Got a Story by Lindsay Charvat – November 12, 2009 Name: Angelique Munro. Born and raised: I was born an only child on May 27, 1970 and raised in Chicago. I currently live in the Andersonville area with the love of my life, my little dog Cleopatra. Your job or career: I worked in accounting since 1997 and just got laid off this year. Actress, show director and promotional hostess. How do you self identify? Female. Technically I was born transegnder MTF, however I first dressed in drag in 1995. It was my only outlet to be accepted as a woman by my family and friends. I was to become known as “One of the top female illusionists in Chicago” for the past 14 years. Oh I think I always knew as a child that I was meant to be a girl. I’ve always felt a hole of emptiness inside me because I was born with male parts and not female. I can remember, I dressed up in private in my bedroom using bed sheets as dresses and a T-shirt or a towel as hair. When I would visit my aunt’s house, I would put on her high heels and clothing and played with Barbie dolls with my cousin Tina. I didn’t think it was wrong. All I knew was that it made me feel glamorous, and it was an escape from reality. I truly believe I was a girl. This was very difficult on mymother. Out of respect, I never did pursue living my life as a woman until after her death in 2006. Mom lost her battle to lung/brain cancer. I loved my mother and I miss her so much, she was my world. For years, I’ve been battling major depression. I had no clue as a child that I was born transgender. All I knew was I just wanted to be loved and accepted for who I am. As early as I can remember, my life has been a struggle. I’ve survived emotional, sexual, mental and physical abuse. I have battled my demons with thoughts of suicide. It’s been a long and rough hard road and now all that’s behind me and I am finally in control of my life and I will not allow anyone to harm me in any way ever again. Is this your life’s work or just a job? Neither! How could being a woman be “your life’s work or just a job”? I am extremely comfortable in my skin and I will say I am honored when people say to me I have been an inspiration to them for telling my story and being so honest about all my life’s issues, no matter how difficult it has been to relive it by discussing the facts that stem from my childhood. I do not dwell on my past. I try and leave it there and become strong from going though it and move on ! What do you like about this career? I don’t think I shall pursue my Accounting possibilities , I tend to focus on Acting and being taken seriously as a Woman . Along with promotional work and hosting events and such. And of course my writings, I am currently working on a book about my life story. These things make me happy because I am free to be me . Where do you see yourself, career-wise, in 10 years? Hopefully alive and well, enjoying an acting career and/or respected writer. Are there any fun perks to this job? Yeah, to work and continue to find work. Are there any downsides to this job? Yeah, not work. Did you go to school for this job? Honestly, just high school drama and theatre group. However, I do plan on taking some classes and work hard. I do believe no one knows everything and theres always something out there that can help you grow as a person and in my case as an actress. What’s your background history with your family? My parents divorced in 1997. My father cheated on my mom and married that girl and had four daughters with her and I just heard, they are now divorcing. Because she cheated on him. Karma is a bitch! My mom came to live with me in 1997 and she remarried in 1999. Sadly after my mother died in 2006, I died along with her to my family in their eyes. My Mom was one of 10. So I have four ucles, five aunts and tons of cousins. I do speak to on occasion a few on my cousins and one aunt and one uncle. How are you involved in Chicago’s gay community? I was on The Tyra Banks Show in LA as one of Tyra’s “Fashion Drag Force ” make-over team members. Show title is “Fix It or Flaunt It Part II.” I made my radio debut on Windy City Radio WCKG, 105.9 FM. I appeared on, The Ricki Lake Show’s “Surprise, I Am a Drag Queen.” I’ve also been seen on E! Entertainment Television’ Wild on the Windy City during one of her performances at Mashed Potato Club. I have entertained through out the Chicagoland area: Baton Show Lounge, Sidetrack, Mary’s Attic, Hydrate, Circuit, The Edge, Kit Kat Lounge and Supper Club, Temptations, Roscoe’s, Spin, Mashed Potato Club, Nutbush, Hideaway, InnExile, @mosphere, Jackhammer, 115 Bourbon Street and Charlie’s. Outside of Chicago: Los Angeles, New York, Cedar Rapids, IA, Michigan, Michigan City, Indiana, East St. Louis and Las Vegas. In addition to being a stage performer, I have been an active leader in her fund-raising efforts , along with educating for HIV/AIDS awareness. And finally I have been the Promotional Spokesperson for Alize, Absolut, Vox, Bacardi, Pucker, Bud Light, Southern Comfort and representative model for Perrier Jouet Champagne, to name a few. Do you like to travel? Love to travel and plan on doing more of it! Where is your favorite vacation spot? Las Vegas. I adore it. There is nothing like the energy there. What do you like to do on your vacation? Along with the pool, shows and boy watching. Do you have any hobbies? I love to write.. Epressing my feelings, emotions and fears. It’s a wonderful release. Anything else that we should know about you? I have done my share of soul searching, and now it is time I embrace the true me and stop fighting it. All I know is how I feel. I will tell you for the first ever in my life that I can honestly say I love myself. I know I am doing the right thing for me listening to my heart and soul to be happy to be the woman I was meant to be! What’s your latest project? Finding a job. How did this project come about? Got laid off and after that, I managed a bar up in Andersonville. which recently just had too many issues within and I grabbed my purse and said, “See ya!” I refuse to be anywhere I am not respected or appreciated. What inspires/excites/interests.. you about this project? Well seriously, to find a job that I love and I know I am sincerely wanted and needed completely. If you could have one wish for yourself, what would it be? Just to stay as healthy as I can, mentally, physically and emotionally and enjoy whatever life I have left in peace. If you could have one wish for others, what would it be? I would hope people could appreciate and love and respect one another more for whom we were born to be and not for whom they want us to be. Take a good, long look at your life and the choices you have made. Are you fulfilled and engaged in living, or just going through the motions to get through the day and pay the bills? If the answer to the last question is yes, reconsider the direction in which you would like to take your life. Give deep thought to what would satisfy you. Imagine a life you love getting up for each day!
For me , in my life I try not to dwell on my past ( child abuse -due to me being Trans Gender, Cancer and dealing with Terminal illness ) . I accept things as they come my way and deal with them one at a time . I am not proud to ask for help weather that be therapy and/or anti-depessants.
If you have lost track of what lifes really about, it could be because you have forgotten what is most important to you. Perhaps your aspirations have been lost in the chaos of daily living. Spend time reflecting on the kind of experiences that would help you feel more alive--and engage in those activities. If learning, discovering, and meeting new people are priorities, seek more opportunities to pursue these pleasures. If family/friends, health, and spirituality are important, don't throw them over. Balance your life to reflect what matters to you most.
I take nothing for granted , I am just thrilled to wake up each day and fuction without assistance. I enjoy the simple things in life , like spending time with my little dog Cleopatra , writting , taking walks and seeing the seasons change, chatting with friends , performing from time to time and yes I do pray .
We get lost sometimes in our personal dramas. It helps to feel connected to the bigger picture. If you find solace in believing in God, embrace that satisfaction; however, you don't have to subscribe to a particular faith to be a spiritual person, or to benefit from a daily dose of energy from your spiritual practice of choice. Make connecting with a universal energy a part of your everyday experience, and you will find your faith in humankind, life, and yourself restored.
I know there are so many others out there who can relate to me and my writing and I also am wise enough to realize so many other have/had a worst story than mine . Its not an easy thing to do - keep your chin up all the time . I am human and I still struggle with my depression demons. There will be people who put down your dreams or discourage you. Don't let them rain on your parade! It may be tough to stand up to those who want to bring you down, but if you live your life looking for approval, you will never be free. Try to avoid people who like to criticize, or don't listen to them. Believe in yourself and work hard to attain what you want out of life.
I have/try cut out all negativity out of my life . Seriously no matter how painful it may be , gone from my life are Family members , old friends and co-workers . And in time you will see how much more healthier you life will be ! Make a choice to take action, if even just a few small steps. Start by writing down a new definition for your life. Who would you be if you werent true to yourself?
Without overanalyzing, act straight from your gut and make a list of the kind of relationships, family life, career and adventures you would like to be living. Also jot down the qualities you would embrace (confidence, happiness, great self-esteem, prosperity, etc).
Allow yourself to believe and you will find yourself building momentum that will carry you closer to your true self . Before you know it, you will be living the new life you once only imagined.
Hugs from Angelique~

| ANGELIQUE'S INTEREST ON DATING/RELATIONSHIPS
I am only looking to date or invest my time in people who can treat me with the utmost respect as I will do the same. I am also very romantic and passionate person. Romance is very important to me. You know , like in the old Hollywood Movies , when the word "gay" meant happy, and making love to someone meant wooing them.
Whatever happened to that ?
I want someone to spoil me in every way imaginable because thats what I would do. I guess you could say I am a total dreamer, maybe I am . But I think that's okay. I want someone who is willing to shower a lot of loving and caring into our relationship as to make it to stand the test of time. I do realize nothing last forever , so we need to make the best of the time we have together. Life is so uncertain and to be able to share that time with someone special is a remarkable thing. My dating/relationship pattern has been long term. And YES I have been in love , at least once in my life . And YES I am only human I have been hurt , more than once in my life as well.
Here are some questions people keep asking me over and over :
Are you a pre or post op Trans Sexual ? I am a pre-op ,which means before surgery
Are you on hormones and do you have breast also are you planning to have Sex Reassignment Surgery ? I've been on hormones since 3-19-06 and yes my breast are developing nicely and of course I plan on having SRS as soon as I get enough money to have it done.
What type of guy are you attracted too ? I adore YOUNG muscle boy types between 21 -40, with a job and your own money .
Whats your real life about and do you have a real job ? I live 24/7 as a Woman and work as the GM of The Call .
In your everyday life, are you always so made up with stage make up on and such ? No ! I am very plain and natural . I wear very little to no make-up.
Life to too darn short for DRAMA and Baggage. So basically I am looking to see what is out there. Not sure what kind of relationship I am looking for , lets explore the possibilities.......
People who have an open mind and a good soul to the front of the line

At first I was afraid, I was petrified. When you said you had 10 inches, Lord I almost died! But I'd spent so many years just waiting for a man that long, that I grew strong, and I knew that I could take you on... But there you are, another lie, I was ready for a Big Mac and you've brought me a French fry! I should have known that it was bullshit, just a sad pathetic dream Should have known there was no Anaconda lurking in those Jeans!
Go on now - go! , Walk out the door, Don't you promise me 10 inches, then turn up with only 4! Weren't you a brat to think I wouldn't find you out!? Don't you know we're only joking when we say size don't count??!! [Chorus] I will survive! I will survive! Cuz as long as I have batteries, My sex life's gonna thrive! I will always have good sex, With a handful of latex! I will survive! I will survive! Hey! Hey! It took all my self control not to laugh out loud, When I saw your little weiner standing tall and proud! But to hell with your ego and to hell with all your needs, Now I'm saving all my lovin' for a cordless multispeed! [Chorus] I will survive! I will survive! Cuz as long as I have batteries, My sex life's gonna thrive! I will always have good sex, With a handful of latex! I will survive! I will survive! Hey! Hey!

I am very comfortable in my skin so I have no problems going about my day ....... I am a Woman ...... " Trans Sexual " is a Label I was given by a doctor and society.
Also I am very honest to every guy I am going to have sex with about being me ........ so there is never an issue ......most guys thinks its HOT! I hate labels ...... so I am the Woman and you are the Man and we have Sex ! Forget the " Gay " issue....... that only confuses things ! Just enjoy one another in private and do what feels good and right for you !

If you allow yourself to be pressured or pummeled by someone who doesn’t appreciate your gifts, you will only be in a constant battle that will eat away at your energy and enthusiasm. You don’t have to prove yourself to anyone or justify your dreams and plans. Your job is to be you. Steer clear of critics and worrywarts. Surround yourself with friends who will champion your self-worth, cheer you on with both hands high in the air, and make you feel good about yourself—people you, in turn, can wholeheartedly support.
The biggest roadblock to success in life is self-doubt. Doubt makes you susceptible to the critical voices--inside and out--that whisper negative affirmations such as, “I am not worthy, good enough, or capable enough to achieve my dreams.”
Don't let doubt stop you in your tracks. To keep doubts and doubters at bay, learn to celebrate the magnificent, shining part of you--even when life's storms momentarily eclipse its brilliance. Here are eight simple, but powerful, strategies to help you honor your inner radiance and keep voting for yourself--no matter what is happening around you.
You may not be able to stop the rain that falls into your life, but you can turn on your windshield wiper to clear away the frustrations, criticisms, and self-doubts that, like a drenching downpour, can obscure your vision and make it hard to see where you’re going. When you’re feeling upset or when others aren’t valuing you, what helps you see clearly again? Taking some time alone? Meditation or prayer? Journaling? Exercise? Walking in nature? Watching an inspiring movie? Talking to a supportive friend? Scheduling a massage or a session with a life coach? Make a list of the tools that work for you so you don’t forget to put them into action when the storm clouds let loose.
To help you celebrate who you really are (not what others say you are) save all the cards, e-mails, and letters people have sent to thank you or express what they value or love about you. Save other mementos that bring to mind your strong points, your accomplishments, and the joy you have given others. Put them in a special box or file folder. When you’re beset, upset, or have lost sight of your smile for a while, pull out that collection. Read what’s inside to remind yourself that the drama or trauma that happens around you is not who you are.
The best defense is a good offense. Doubts and detractors may try to unseat you, but you can be prepared ahead of time with the truth. Write down two or more affirmations to say aloud or to yourself to counter doubts and criticisms that may well up inside of you or come from others. Maybe you need to affirm “I am a magnificent being in the process of becoming ever more magnificent,” or “I have something important to say and I say it with confidence and ease,” or “My job is not to be perfect but to be the best I can be right now.” Keep these affirmations handy and, when the barrage comes, turn to your list and fire away with conviction in your heart.
Every one of us is wonderful in some way. Yet it’s so easy to concentrate on our shortcomings rather than applaud our positive qualities. Remember that you energize whatever you focus on. So why not focus on the part of you that shines?
Don't let you light fade Angelique
