KimberleysPhotoWest.com is coming to a computer screen near you. I am almost done putting together the new website and it should be up soon. Of course, now that I am putting this in 'print' I have to get my act together and finish it. Maybe I will just delete this and then you would never know.......... In the mean time you can always visit my blog............or not.

What defines a professional photographer? There is no governing body that allows you to use the term professional photographer. The most commonly used guide to using the term is that 50% of your imcome comes from photography. But this is a very loose definition of the ability to call yourself a professional. "Uncle Joe" who happens to own a nice digital camera who says he will photograph your wedding for you can call himself a professional. Being a professional photographer is a whole lot more than just owning a top quality camera. Some photographers have had training in the field of photography, but just as many learned through the school of hard knocks. Professional photographers are constantly upgrading their knowledge and skills, they have WCB coverage, they have insurance that not only covers themselves but their clients. Your best friend that says they will photograph your wedding or take your family portrait as a gift will no longer be your best friend if the images do not turn out or someone trips on their tripod and breaks a leg. The best thing to protect yourself for the once in a lifetime photographs of your wedding is to ask questions of your photographer. Does he or she have proper insurance, are their cameras sent to the manufacturer on a regular basis to make sure the equipment is always working properly. How many cameras do they bring on a shoot. If they only bring one then they should also bring a horseshoe with them. Get references. Educate yourself. Talk to the photographer that will be photographing your special event. Just use good common sense.

i wish that I knew what the upper executive of Kodak is thinking. Right now they have no direction. The photographic lab that I use in Vancouver, BC uses a Kodak program called ProShots in order to upload files to them for printing. I also use this program to put wedding proofs online for my clients to view and order from. Kodak sends me a registered letter that cost them $10.50 USD to tell me that they are cancelling this program at the end of the year. This is so typical of their thinking. A few years ago they introduce an outstanding pro digital camera Pro 14N that is relatively small and very high resolution. A couple of years after introduction they stop making it and will no longer service it. So don't buy one on eBay!!! There is no direction in Kodak any more. Now that the world has gone digital they have no idea what to do. There is no long term planning going on in Kodak any more, they seems to be scrambling to stay afloat. It would not surprise me at all to see this icon in the photographic world be split up and sold off to different companies within 10 years, if not sooner. If you look over the years at what products that Kodak has introduced all the time saying that this is the best thing to come along in photography, remember APS and Disc film, only to stop production a few years later saying it was not popular enough. After how many thousands of consumers have invested in these products. Kodak does not do any long term planning or market research prior to introducing new products and will continue to lose market share until they are worth nothing more than bargain basement junk bonds and will die a slow death that no one will notice. Do they really think that coming up with a new logo will save them? But of course this is only one persons opinion.
