Next! The second act tonight were The Heathers; last time I saw them they were valiantly overcoming first-gig jitters, tonsillitis and wonky microphones. The impression that I got then was that if that was the kind of performance we could expect in the face of such obstacles, we were in for a treat when they’d found their footing. And, you know, I hate to say I told you so but I wasn’t wrong. They played a really good set tonight - tight enough to bounce pennies off and blimey, aren’t they good when you can hear what she’s singing? Actually, that’s not fair. They’re good, full stop - but as I said before, the vocals didn’t get any justice last time and having had their full benefit tonight I can see exactly what I was missing. As always, This Copper Heart, September and The Other Woman’s Club stood out, with catchy refrains and great boy/girl vocal harmonies, as well as Heartache and Hairdye. The Heathers are well worth checking out, and soon; their next gig is on St Patrick’s Day, check on their MySpace for more details, and for information about where to pick their CDs up from Reviewed By Gill Duckett (Birmingham Live!) Third in the lineup tonight were The Heathers; new singer Rachel, at her first gig with the band, simultaneously managed to deal with PA issues (initially it wasn’t switched on as they started their set – enough to throw anyone off their stride) and tonsillitis (the girl’s obviously got nerves of steel). Maybe because of this, her vocals remained frustratingly low in the mix – at least from where we were over to one side, but it’s a small room – which, when you can tell that someone’s a great voice, is a real shame. HOWEVER. We cast these things aside and look at the good bits. The good bits were the strong, catchy songs (go forth to their MySpace for a listen, and for a CD if you’re feeling frisky), in particular This Copper Heart, September (with its great boy-girl vocal harmonies and bloody pounding drumming) and their final song, The Alpha Line. Great stuff. Rachel’s voice might have been a little drowned out tonight compared with some of the other singers but you know what - if that was what we get under less than ideal circumstances, there’s no complaints here. There are more shows lined up for the new year (again, keep an eye on their MySpace), and they’re well worth checking out.

Third band of the night were the all new and improved Heathers (now with added Rachel!). Having split with Dave, their former lead singer, Rachel - regularly seen (wo)manning the doors at the weekly 444 Club stepped up to da mic. This was their first show together so you might expect it to be a bit shakey. But it weren't. Rachel has the voice, the moves and a rather sassy stage presence. Hell, this was their FIRST gig together! Colour me impressed. Shades of The Cardigans, Edie Brickell (according to Lady B) and (the late, great) Beautiful South in places...in other words clever, catchy pop that many bands would give a kidney for. I'll be fascinated to see how they develop from here...
Playmusic Magazine "Neat and well produced glorious pop; can't really argue with a chorus that could easily soundtrack any teenage drama. you'll love it!!!!!!
Stefan Kucharczyk-The Birmingham Post "In this short time, The Heathers' happy-go-lucky pop rock sound - has quickly attracted attention and critical applause."

I have a duck
her name is duckie
a pretty little bird that I adore
There was a man
he was a hunter
He shot my little duckie to the floor
chorus
she lost her little foot
and now its made of wood
but I still love her clippy cloppy sound
I picked her up
her face was muddy
I saw her little flipper on the ground
my little Duck walked round in circles
with one leg she would just go round and round
chorus
My little Duckie like to ramble
over the hills and countryside
her wooden foot makes her look stupid
But I still love my duckie by my side
chorus twice
the end

We noticed so many bands advertising friend generators. What the fuck is that about? Faceless people added , like cylons from battlestar galactica! We add all our friends by hand. We absolutley promise we sit there night after day, happily finding people who we like, hoping we'll get a litttle comment like 'hello nice to meet you'. Somtimes we even get 'you lot are shit, fuck off'. Which is fine. Either way its human interaction that counts.
So we say fuck off you cylon scumbags (Cylags!!) You ...you.... robot collaborators you
Make friends and keep them, talk to them THATS THE WHOLE IDEA!!!!!!

As most of you know we live on potnoodles and cuppa soups. This week we ran out of everything we started to look longingly at Glady's Pedigree chum. It was the pits! no petrol, no food and almost no bog roll. Sooooo..we decided that Matt should ask his mom for a food parcel, as she is the least likely of the Moms to go berserk and tell us to get proper jobs! Anyway he rolls back last night with a hefty pile of food. Much to our horror there were no pot noodles or burgers or cuppa soup only posh food! A big Duck, red cabbage in red jelly with summet weird on it,stuffed aubergines in a red wine sauce, lots of green vegetables we cant pronounce , artichokes and wild Guinea fowl in a JAR!!!!!!!! WTF do we do with it? Dave is devasted not a noodle amongst it. Anyways what ya supposed to do with a wild guinea fowl? what is a guinea fowl? Is a Duck like a chicken and if so how do ya cook a chicken? So looks like 'Quack and chips' all round this weekend . As to our Guinea fowl queries please respond ,its an emergency!!!!!!
