Hi Everyone,

We're putting together a year in review for 2009 piece for My 411 Source's next edition. Its focus is, of course, our local music scene in Western/Central Mass. We've contacted several venues and promoters for their input and we would like to get input from area musicians and show goers.  You can answer via this myspace page or to info@my411source.net (place End of Year Insights) in the subject line. Deadline for responses is November 27th.

1)  Your name / Band name, if applicable (we will not use it, its just so we know who you are and to establish you're place in the scene)

2) What changes, if any, have you seen in the local scene in 2009? (good or bad) Have you seen more unity?

3)  What and who has been key players or who you feel has made major contributions to helping the scene and how?

4)  What struggles have you noticed or experienced?

5)  What are you're most memorable local music moments in 2009?

6)  What do you predict for 2010?

Thank you!

CURRENT FEATURES AND POLICIES
(updated October 2009)

Our primary goal is to get out 'what's happening' in local music scenes in Western Mass and surrounding areas. At times, we'll feature bands from other areas and those coming to our area.

We publish quarterly editions. Occasionally we will have a special edition in between. (New schedule in the works and will be published soon).

FEATURES

Showcases: We showcase underground acts. All previous featured acts are noted in another blog.

Song of the Week: Found in the music player on our Myspace page

Show Database and “The 411 in the 413“ news: Have shows? Have News? You can submit your info to info@my411source.com or on myspace.

Please note: Deadlines for monthly updates to our show database are the 28th of each month for the upcoming months (updated between 1st - 3rd). News for an upcoming edition is due by the 28th of the month prior to the next published edition (noted in bulletins on myspace or facebook group). Any shows or news in between MAY be sent out via bulletins on myspace, facebook, and possibly updated on website, dependent on staff availability. You can always post comments to our myspace page or facebook group yourself!

Mailing Lists: You can sign up for our mailing list to receive occasional 411 updates and our monthly e-newsletter with local music news, shows, etc.

Venue Show Listings: We now have links to area venues on our website (events page) to access show listings at venues. If your venue isn’t on the list and you would like to be linked up, notify us. Venues listed no longer need to send in show info UNLESS you have a special event such as charity events (we can place in preview calendar and on the database).

CD Reviews: Occasionally, we will perform CD reviews; however this is a rare occurance depending on our per diem writer's availability and cannot guarantee a review. Contact info@my411source.com.

However, you may want to contact Patty to inquire about getting airplay on 411 Underground at www.myspace.com/411underground.

Groups: http://groups.myspace.com/my411source and http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=153036384269

POLICIES

1) Anyone can post their shows, info or comments. Inappropriate content, content in poor taste, or extremly offensive comments will be removed! We will disable this feature if abused; we have in the past. Don’t ruin it for the majority who use this service and respect this policy.

2) If you do not support 411’s efforts, the local music scene, the other local bands, etc., - keep going - do not add yourself! NEGATIVITY IS NOT TOLERATED!! WE SUPPORT EACH OTHER!

Also, we are not a marketing page for businesses who are not here to support the scene but are here for the sole purpose of marketing their business!! If you are a studio/label/venue here and promoting your musical artist and shows... post comments with that news.. that's fine! But this is not a place to post comments soliciting and marketing potential clients for your business... they will be deleted. In other words, if you are not here as a fan of, or promoter of, local music, and seeking "clients"...  we are not the page for you..

3) If you utilize the 411 community page to place comments for your events or 411 promotes you via bulletins, posting your show info on site, or you are - or have been - featured on 411, the 411 community IS SUPPORTING YOU!! OUR GOAL IS A SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY! We only ask that you support the community and other musicians by promoting us in some form to get exposure for all! You can do this by bulletins, posting our banner on your site, placing us in Top Friends, word of mouth, etc. If you would like one of our banners for your site, contact us. This is not mandatory but your choice. You will not be removed from the page or refused a feature or any use of our services if you do not promote us.

4) Bands should assist with the promotion of their monthly feature on 411. They can do this by bulletins and/or placing an announcement on their page. Again, only a request but you do want people to see your showcase, correct?

5) Featured bands are also required to participate in the creation of their feature by providing requested information. If you request to be showcased and submit your information for consideration, we may contact you for additional information. Without all the info, there's no feature.

6) We often take pictures and shoot videos at shows we attend. They may go up on our pics/video on myspace, youtube, and main website. If your bands photos or videos are up, feel free to copy and post on your site. Our photos are watermarked and/or under copyright and ask you do not edit them in any way or remove our watermark. (At times, they are not watermarked but still published and protected under copyright... in this case, note us as the source). The watermark keeps them FREE for your use. If you would like an original for promotional materials, ask how you  may get our "permission" to use and obtain them.

7) Bands are also welcome to use the reviews and such we do about them as long as they note My 411 Source as their source. However, they are to link their article notices to the website www.my411source.com for viewing. We ask that bands DO NOT copy and publish an entire article/review on their sites while the article is part of a 'CURRENT' issue. They may do so AFTER the next quarterly edition comes out (when the article is moved to our articles/archives page). If you would like to use it before the next quarterly edition, place an inquiry to info@my411source.com to Patty's attention.

You can find many previous articles at my411source.com (archives page).

From Patty:

When I started My 411 Source, it was my vision to support local music as a result of my experiences over the years, stemming from the lack of support of the ever so many talented people in our local music scenes… in our own back yards.. Our community! Yes there are MANY others like myself who are passionate and devoted to our love and this cause! But it was the community that was the issue! Trying to get them to support the local scene.

The first catch phrase I used was, “Keep All Music Alive.. Support Local Music.” I’ve been quoted from an interview as stating, “My 411 Source is about getting the community to join together and support its local talent and the members of the local music scenes to support each other. Support Local Music, period! Without local music scenes, the music we grew up on and listen to every day on the radio would not even exist! It doesn’t just appear out of the blue on the radio or MTV one day. It all begins somewhere, in our local scenes!.”

Over the past three or four years, there have been many who have contributed to the establishment and growth of My 411 Source. We have had several volunteer staff that have come and gone, but 2 remain strong from beginning until the present time… myself (Patty) & DJ Scooby. Many have assisted 411 in some form or another, or in many forms.

Although My 411 Source is on hiatus indefinitely while I pursue radio with 411 Underground, there are projects belonging to others that are upcoming that we are a part of, so we are not completely gone. We may bring you periodic news from local music until our undetermined, pending return… such as the “Local’s Only Show Series” at Maximum Capacity!

I would like to take this time to reflect and thank the following for several different reasons. This group consists of people who have helped me establish and maintain My 411 Source; volunteer staff (past and present) who put in work, time and resources to report, website maintenance, street team duties, etc.; those who help promote and support My 411 Source; former bands I worked with in pre-411 days who supported my vision and project; those who have contributed to our stories and features; those who have sponsored our projects and events; and those who have helped in any way (past, present, and future!).

This list took some time to compile, as I wanted to do my best to recollect and include everyone and hope that I did, although I’m sure I’m missing some. If I missed you, I apologize and thank you!

Patty would like to thank:

First and foremost… MY KIDS… for putting up with my musical passion and madness... My daughter Nikita for being the Hip Hop/R&B liaison.. recruiting and reporting from that field. My son Sergio for being our doorman at My 411 Source events.

Secondly, thank you ROBBIE (R.i.P. & I LOVE YOU).... AN OUTSTANDING SINGER who died from complications of a car crash in August 2005. He is the reason I decided to continue with my idea for My 411 Source when I gave up hope after his death. In his memory and for his love of music as well, I implemented My 411 Source on August 19, 2006.. a year and a day after his death.
