En voici un exemple concret avec le jeune groupe allemand Single State Of Man. Particulièrement actif au sein d'une scène screamo/hardcore elle-même particulièrement en verve outre-Rhin, Single State Of Man a déjà sorti auparavant en cassette audio (oui ça existe encore!) un split avec Kontrapunkt et un vinyl. Pour leur second vinyl mais premier véritable EP, le groupe allemand a d'abord particulièrement soigné son artwork, superbe avec ses effets "j'écris sur du carton". Et que dire du contenu! On débute par "4321", morceau dispo depuis quelques mois sur leur page myspace, entre urgence et fragilité, ce morceau est un parfait condensé de ce que Funeral Diner et Envy ont fait de mieux. Il s'agit là aussi du seul morceau contenant du chant. En effet, le reste de cet EP est instrumental, les influences post-rock ont finalement pris le dessus sur le screamo. Autant à l'aise dans ces deux registres, Single State Of Man parvient à provoquer des émotions en jouant les montagnes russes entre passages emplis de délicatesse ("Olivia Pascal Story", splendide conclusion) et sursauts de guitares nerveuses ("I Can't Be Your Embassy"). Le seul regret qu'on aura sera pour sa durée, vraiment trop court! Mais bon, on pourra ainsi renouveler l'écoute à loisirs. Chaudement recommandé aux amateurs de Envy et Explosions In The Sky et pourquoi pas à découvrir en live lors de leur tournée française fin mars (le 25 mars à la Miroiterie de Paris notamment).

But something is different. The sound isn't that rough like it is used to be on 90ies orientated screamo sound. Super neue Band aus Würzburg. Single State Of Man bewegen sich zwar auf der derzeit sehr angesagten Postrock/Instrumental/Ambient Schiene, klingen aber dennoch etwas anders als all die anderen Bands. Man hört natürlich alte Bekannt raus, angefangen bei früheren Envy, über Explosions In The Sky und ruhigen aufgeräumten Cancer Conspiracy. Aber gerade auf der ersten Seite der Lp finden etwas old-schoolige Screamo Vocals ihren Platz, und verschieben das Debut der Süddeutschen somit in eine Richtung, die auch durchaus dem Fan von älteren/härteren Ebullition Bands gefallen könnte.

They do make a great mix of screaming vocals togehter with hardcore like loud music. But the next minute the play melodic stuff from postrock to ambient music.
Its a very nice mix without annoying screamo shit.
There first s/t LP was released at the 8th febuary 2008 on Ape Must Not Kill Ape Records, Synalgie Records & Emuzah Records.

Die Platte beginnt mit einem klassischen Screamo-Stück; die Art von Screamo, wie er im deutschsprachigen Raum seit geraumer Zeit gern rezipiert und immer und immer wieder reproduziert wird. Durchaus gut gemacht, aber nicht mehr wirklich reizvoll. Mit dem zweiten Song wird das Debütalbum von SINGLE STATE OF MAN dann aber deutlich spannender. Auch hier gibt es zwar noch das typische Screamo-Feeling, jedoch treten die Vocals deutlich in den Hintergrund. Ähnlich wie die Spanier COREA auf ihrem aktuellen Album "Quien encuentra a la madre conoce a los hijos" versuchen sich SINGLE STATE OF MAN am Brückenschlag zwischen Screamo und Post-Rock. Gelegentliche Tempiwechsel, der große Dynamikumfang sowie die Kombination von kraftvoll treibende Zerrparts und unverzerrten Akkordbrechungen sorgen für eine vielseitige Klanglandschaft. Die Saiteninstrumente weben versiert verführerische Klangstrukturen, die sich immer wieder über gelegentliche Distortion-Gewitter entladen. Geschrieene Textbrocken werden nur noch punktuell als weitere Klangmasse hinzugefügt. Die Songs kommen kraftvoll und filigran zugleich. Die Franken bewegen sich mit diesem Album ein ganzes Stück weit weg vom Schrei-Emo-Einheitssound und hinterlassen einen positiven Gesamteindruck. In sechs Stücken werden Wände aufgebaut und brutal wieder niedergerissen, Hoffnungen gehegt und wieder fallen gelassen, in ein zwei Liedern zwischendurch mal kurz geschrieen, um sich dann wieder den Gitarren zu widmen. Auch wenn die vier Unterfranken in der Hardcore-Szene eine Außenseiterposition einnehmen, zu Ape Must Not Kill Ape passen sie allemal, nimmt man allein deren Palette an französischen Screamo-Bands. Ambientgitarrenpop mit Slownoise, klarstrukturierter Frickelcore mit schönen Melodien, oder einfach Screamo ohne viel Scream - SINGLE STATE OF MAN sind nicht unanstrengend, aber jede Sekunde wert. verzweifelter hardcore, geschrien mit hymnischen momenten ohne diese karte voll auszuspielen, wie es die etwas indierock lastigeren adorno beispielsweise tun. erinnert in seiner tiefe und herzlichkeit stark an jet black und deren einflußgebiet, ist dabei aber keinesfalls so definitiv in seiner düsterkeit. vielmehr keimen dann doch immer wieder positive momente auf. auf der 12inch befinden sich 6 songs, wobei nur zu zweien lyrics abgedruckt sind. der rest der platte ist instrumental. was man aus den zwei abgedruckten lyrics rauslesen kann geht es um leere und kälte, welche die heutige gesellschaft produziert (9321) sowie den rückbezug auf nestwärme innerhalb eigener beziehungen, zwischenmenschliche und übersichtliche.

Un groupe allemand et quatre labels. Images
encoreune fois d'une bonne coproduction car l'entraide permet parfois
desortir de beaux objets, comme celui-ci d'ailleurs. Ce LP profite à
monavis d'un très bel artwork et d'un bon choix de carton. Même
la« sleeve » pour glisser votre disque est illustrée! Il y'a rien
àfaire, mais un bon vinyle, y'a que ça de vrais! Jamais cela
neremplacera des mp3.
SINGLE STATE OF MANest
un groupe allemand de Wurzburg qui joue dans un style quelque partentre
emocore et screamo, entre post-rock et post-hardcore. C'estgénéralement
instrumental, avec un peu de chant ou de cris sur uneplage ou l'autre,
sinon le groupe laisse les ambiances et lesatmosphères s'installer.
L'utilisation des crescendos et explosionsd'énergies type du post-rock
sont présente évidemment. SINGLE STATE OF MANgère
très bien son truc mais ne brille hélas pas par son
originalité.Néanmoins c'est ultra bien fait et on se laisse prendre par
l'émotiondégagée par le groupe quelque part entre un FUNERAL DINER dernière génération, et un ENVY ancienne génération, sans hésiter à y voir un peu de post-rock du genre EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY.
On a sur ce 12inch 6 morceaux pour un total de
près de 26 minutes demusique. C'est assez agréable car cela nous donne
un condensé suffisanten énergie sans être trop long non plus. En gros
cela tient sur lalongueur d'un set live quoi. Un bon petit disque qui
se laisse écoutertranquillement. Un groupe qui doit bien le faire en
live également àmon avis.

Single State of Man sounds a bit like Explosions inThe Sky did in the beginning, using 4/4 drives with beautiful clearfinger-strummings building up to noisier distorted sequences and thenmore quiet, more loud… but everything moving naturally andincorporating distant screams. They don’t generally sound like City ofCaterpillars, but because of their touch of screamo I find thatcomparison reasonable, since CoC has a lot of post-rockish melody intheir quiet moments, but still retaining some pace, that makes it lessmeditative than post-rock. It’s like CoC’s quiet moments are otherband’s loudest moments, and what SSoM does is to play very dynamicallyso the monumental parts don’t arrive with long buildups, making it allless predictable, but at the same time nonetheless monumental.
