It's that time again! Christmas time! And it's becoming a tradition around here that I do a little Christmas song. You may or may not remember when I did "Blue Christmas" last year, but this year I went a different direction. The song I covered isn't even technically a Christmas song. Be that as it may, I feel that there are themes that could be related to this very holy holiday....

so... I invite you to venture a listen to my cover of "Angels" by Flight of the Conchords!

If you're a fan of Flight of the Conchords, you're probably familiar with the song and will "get it" but if you're not... I hope you can appreciate it regardless!

Also, as an early holiday gift, I posted up a live recording of a new song called "Hazelnut" :) Hope you enjoy it! It's not a perfect performance, but give it a chance!
(thanks for the recording, Joseph!)

Furthermore, I hope you and yours are all having a nice holiday no matter what you're celebrating or not celebrating or whatever! And if you're dealing with too much snow as we are, stay safe and drive carefully!

Hope to have a lot more to record and post in 2010!

xxoo,
jeNell

ps. did you pick up your copy of Localized Phenomenon to celebrate the 2 year anniversary? Still available for purchase/download at CDbaby.com, iTunes, and many other online stores! why don't you have it yet?!

I have been bad. I haven't been keeping up very well with you. I've neglected you. For that, I apologize.
Though there is no good excuse for such behavior, there are a few things I think I should share. I don't often share personal tidbits, but I think this warrants and exception. Within the last few weeks, I have begun attending the Art Institute of Philadelphia. With that, my free time has dropped significantly. I have little to no time to do all the things necessary to keep this band rolling along in the usual manner. I'm not trying to say that I'm dissolving the band. We are not breaking up. I am not retiring from music by any means. BUT there will be unfortunately be a bit of a hiatus show wise.

If you attended any of the recent shows, you pretty much have heard this whole shtick.
Sorry if it's a bit redundant!

But with that suckie news comes good news! Though only in the beginning stages, we're going to begin recording the follow up to "Localized Phenomenon"! Since we can't really book shows due to my schedule, I really want to try to get things rolling in that court. It's about time too! That CD dropped in Dec of 07 and it's nearly Dec of 09! It's time! I've been thinking and planning and scheming everyday on my commute to Philly! "Localized Phenonmenon" is beyond outdated in terms of where the band is now and the sound we have. It's absolutely time for something new! I'm so excited to have it in my tiny, carpal tunnel ridden hands!

Well, that's all from me for now! Hopefully it won't be too, too long til we're back doing our thang again!

Happy Holidays!

jeNell

The 89th Wilmington Flower Market is nearing closer and closer and I don't want you guys to miss out on the probable last performance of JeNell & the Yets in their original line up (Jenell, Jamie, Jimmy, and Nate)!!! So, if you're thinking that you're going to slack off and miss this one, that would be a mistake! Delaware might seem far, but it's not really! It's just a hop, skip, and a jump! If George Washington can get there in a small boat in icy waters, you guys can get there too! It's May! You don't even have to worry about ice! Not that you'd take a boat... You get the point!

We will be rocking the Arby's stage (I know, it's a huge honor) from 3 to 4 on THURSDAY MAY 7th (that's THIS THURSDAY)

It could be awesome. Or it could suck. It all depends on if you guys come and make it awesome! I mean, it's like the tree falling in the woods and no one being around to hear it scenario. If we rock and there's no one around to hear it, did we really rock at all? Whew. that was deep, right? haha

For directions and information, go to WSTW.com

if you MUST miss it for some VITAL reason (it better be good), then be sure to check out some of our other upcoming dates. they may be acoustic, but they are fun anyway!

HOPE TO SEE YOU THURSDAY!
happy cinco de mayo :)
RIP Dom Deluise :(

It's been a little too long since I've updated this here blog. I've slacked. I admit it. But that's just the way I am! Love it or leave it!

So, anyway, the last time I updated, I was asking for you guys to vote for us for the Homey Awards. Well, shame on me for not giving the final results! Well, if you've been wondering all this time, wonder no longer! J&TY were the proud recipients of 3 Homeys!

- Most Requested Song "Distraction"
- Best Video Blog
- Best Use of Whistling "Favorite Face"

For our first year being nominated, I think we did pretty good! I'm proud of us! Thanks for your votes, friends! We felt the love!

Since then, things have been shifting like crazy over here.
But not all bad things!
Some good things have come around!

Like we were offered a spot playing the 89th Wilmington Flower Market. Don't get the wrong idea from the name. It's not a flower show. It's a carnival! So, there's going to be bands and rides and funnel cake and lots of stuff! We're going to be playing from 3 to 4 on May 7th. It's a pretty cool thing to be apart of. We're flattered!

In the wake of that, we were invited back to Hometown Heroes last Sunday night to talk about the Flower Market and the band and play a few songs. I just uploaded a new song that we performed live on-air so check it out!

Oh and if you missed the show and you'd like to hear it, just go to www.wstw.com/heroes and download the podcast from 04/26/09.

Hi :)

It's been a little while since we've spoken. How are you? Good? Eh, I'm alright. Can't complain. The sun is shining, I've got my health...

WAIT!WE HAVE MORE IMPORTANT MATTERS TO TEND TO THAN THIS SMALL TALK!

So, Hometown Heroes. You might remember it. We've talked about it a lot. If you're new to this blog, this band, etc, than I'll give a little bit of background. Hometown Heroes is a radio show on 93.7 WSTW, a radio station based in Delaware, that spotlights the best original, local/indie music in Delaware, New Jersey, Southeastern Pennsylvania, and Northern Maryland. Well, Hometown Heroes has an annual awards and we are eligible to be nominated!

This is where you guys come in!

There's a lot of eligible bands out there. Mark Rogers can't be expected to choose between all of these great bands. Especially when some bands try to bribe him with sweets. So it's up to the fans! Email Mark at mrogers@wstw.com or shoot him a message via his myspace. Below is a list to use as a guide when sending in your nomination:

But if you hate reading and you didn't read any of this, watching this video will help too:

Just the other day I blogged. Today I blogth again. Just the other day I uploaded a cover I did of "Blue Christmas". Today I uploadth it again!

So, despite my dog being in the previous version, I think this one is a bit better. I wasn't entirely happy with the version I uploaded before and I probably should have held off on uploading it until I was sure about it, but I'm young and I make mistakes! So, if you listened to the other one, you should listen to this version for comparison. I think it's better, but you be the judge!

Hopefully you weren't too attached to the sound of my dog shaking off 2 mins in! He wasn't around when I made this version! I know! It's not right! There's just something missing now! Gah!

Be that as it may, check it out. Download it. Add it to your Christmas playlist. Think about how Christmas can make you feel like shit when you're alone. Cry. Write Santa a disparaging letter for being unable to provide something other than material goods. Roast chestnuts. Deck the halls. Drink egg nog. You know, all that stuff that makes Christmas the happiest time of the year!!! It's whoo-rific!

And finally, we say "Merry Christmas" in this band!

jeNell

Today is December 12th, which means the 12 days of Christmas have arrived. Right? That would make sense. Either way, Christmas is coming! I have a crappy retail job in a mall so everyday my Christmas spirit is drained out of me by all the havoc that is holiday madness. But in hopes that I could salvage that special twinkle, I did a little cover of one of my favorite Christmas songs, "Blue Christmas" - if it's your favorite too I apologize in advance! - and have posted it for all of you to enjoy or cringe at. If you can make it to about 2 mins in, you can hear my puppy make a special cameo in the song. He wanted to add a little something to it by just shaking off while I was recording. It's all good. What better to have on a Christmas recording that family togetherness?

Speaking of which, Monday (the 15th) will mark the one year anniversary of "Localized Phenomenon". Yep, a year ago on Monday we had our CD release party at New Revelation Records! So, if you have the record, you should pop it on and enjoy. If you don't have it yet, you should go onto itunes and look up JeNell & the Yets and download it or go to cdbaby.com and purchase a hard copy!

For a real holiday deal, go to Amie Street and buy it while it's at the extremely low price of $1.67!

In the last year, a lot of things have happened and have changed. We've been on the radio a handful of times and played at the Liberty Bell and at many other reputable and awesome venues. Played for good causes and charities. Played for fun. Made nearly no money, but made lots of new friends. And though we've lost a few members, we're still hanging tough! The next album should surely top the last in so many ways and I'm definitely looking forward to working on that and more! I can't wait to start playing out again in the New Year. We're in the process of working with some new people and getting things together. We're taking our time and trying to get it right. Hopefully these changes will only be beneficial and we can keep having fun, making great music, and meeting new people.

I'm rambling. I'm in a rush because I've got to get going!
But I hope you enjoy the cover and the new layout I made!
And of course...
Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year to all!

THANKS FOR ALL THE OPEN MINDS, OPEN EARS, AND STRONG SUPPORT! :)

The last time we played the Fire in Philly, a film crew came from Streettalkin.com to check out our set and have a chat. If you haven't heard of the site, you should check it out. It's a Philly based website full of great videos of things going on and around Philadelphia. Being a South Jersey band, we're honored to be part of this!

So please please take a minute or two and check it out -

I apologize in advance for my terrible tambourine playing. I had not exactly practiced what I was going to do and it shows. Sorry, KB! I know it burns your ears!!!

I've been dragging my feet for a while now, but the time has come for me to make an important, but sad announcement. After over a year of rhythmical delight, our dear drummer, Nathan, is leaving us! Our talented sir is taking his skillz to the West coast. We will be without his awesome services come October so we've had to halt booking more shows and other endeavors until further notice. It's quite a sad affair, which I have kept under my hat for as long as possible (despite rumors finding their way back to my ears), but the cat is officially out of the bag.

Niceities asides, it just sucks! If you've ever seen us play live, you know Nathan wasn't just a mere part of the band; he was the backbone. Without him we'll definitely be walking a little crooked. It's kind of crazy to imagine being a band without him at this point. He sort of fell into the mix, but he fit so perfectly. LE SIGH! I shall miss him! I know that I'm not alone in this! :(

In conclusion, after the show we're playing on September 2nd at the North Star Bar in Philly, we're going to be taking a break. I encourage all the Jets to come out and see what will be Nathan's last show with J&TY. As I said, it will be Tuesday, September 2nd, at the North Star Bar in Philadelphia, PA.

And, to be clear, we will be booking shows and getting back out there ASAP! JeNell & the Yets are NOT folding! We are NOT breaking up! We're just... evolving.

Prepare yourself for the evolution.

jeNell

ps. Good luck in Cali, Peepaw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
