Michael Jackson - Not a songwriter, not a musician, not an artist really, but a big dancing star, an outstandingly great dancer and a mediocre singer.  Somehow I knew there wouldn't be a 65 year old Michael Jackson.  I own 17,000 albums, 880 CDs....and not a one Michael Jackson.  Great dancer!

Farrah Fawcett - Until today I had never seen Farrah....as in, on film, talking, whatever...I have never "seen" her....I've seen that poster from 1975....but I've never seen her or knew who she was.  I hear she was an 70s icon, and died a terrible death.

Ed McMahon - Yes, this announcer/sidekick was an icon I was connected to.  I did feel bad that no one mentioned his work as part of the Jerry Lewis Telethon.  What a gold plated larynx!!!

So....I am mildy pleased to see my visits go over 20,000.

And to see my very new addition to my listening station "Stick It In" get 100 listens so fast....(thanks Sarah).

Did I mention the meaningless aspect?

IT'S PAUL'S BIRTHDAY!

And as always....for 45 years....i LOVE/hate him.

(we have a troubled relationship)

Here's my EXPERT ranking of Paul's solo work.

1. FLOWERS IN THE DIRT (1989) 2.79 stars
2. TUG OF WAR (1982) 2.62 stars
3. RED ROSE SPEEDWAY (1973) 2.58 stars
4. PIPES OF PEACE (1983) 2.45 stars
5. CHAOS AND CREATION IN THE BACKYARD (2005) 2.27 stars
6. McCARTNEY (1970) 2.23 stars
7. RAM (1971) 2.2 stars
8. BAND ON THE RUN (1974)  2.15  stars
9.. PRESS TO PLAY (1986) 2.12 stars
10. MEMORY ALMOST FULL (2007) 1.2 STARS

As a reference "REVOLVER" by the Beatles scores a 4 star rating.

There has yet to be produced a perfect 5 star record...."Revolver" will most likely and forever be the closest...

It was approximately exactly 3 years ago I performed Paul's "One More Kiss" at a special 64th birthday show for Paul at "Dizzy's" in San Diego...nobody (even the Paul freaks) seemed to know the song...but it did get gasps from the crowd.

The man's drawn alot of beauty webs...dusty trails of wonder for us all to follow and re-trace.

SO go buy "Flowers In The Dirt"!

LOVE you Paul (little lamb butterfly)...and happy birthday.

BEAUTIFUL MUSIC.

It seems no one is interested in it any more.

UGLY seems to be the deal these days.

I work hard and long searching for beautiful music.

(And making it)

And I have found there is one guaranteed source....

Inara George.

What a voice!

What delightful lyrics and melodies!

BUT if you're into Jack Johnson, Ben Harper style simon simple music...this stuff will frighten you!  It might even kill you....with it's beauty.

But for those looking for exquisite pop lovely-ness....

"All Rise" -  Inara George
"An Invitation" - Inara George
"The Bird and The Bee" - Inara George & Greg Kirstin
"Ray Guns Are Not Just the Future" - Inara George & Greg Kirstin

I try to keep my myspace blogs under the heading of "showbiz"...but it seems more and more....the world's a sliver ridden stage with bad lighting!

Political correctness has always been a "state of mindlessness" that insults and bewilders free-range rational thinkers...but now PC KILLS!

Today, Prez O-Bumpa said closing the southern border, in order to protect the USA from the outbreak of the swine/bird/human flu from MEXICO (the "Mexican Flu"), would be like "closing the barn door after the horse got out".

The problem is that the analogy is intellectually wobbly and ass-backwards.

Closing the southern border would be closing the barn door to keep any MORE horses from getting IN to the barn, not OUT.

I realize rational thought in the USA has been forbidden for years.

Intellect is way out of style.

Since the last election...free thinking has been clamped down on.

And anyone with an IQ above 100 is not invited to participate.

But, starting with the 22 month old baby in Texas (the 1st US death from the "Mexican Flu")...political correctness KILLS.

And on we go with the show!

and then speaking of contemporary "songwriters" who do much more damage than good to the craft and intelligence of songwriting....the artistically dangerous Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Damien Rice, Jon Butcher...have done much damage teaching young and not so young minds of mush, that 2 chords (maybe 3), no spine-tingling hook, no arrangement, no melody makes a song....their material makes neil young look like burt baccharach....and burt baccharach....well....look like burt baccharach.  these people (jack, ben, damien, jon) are destroying the wonderous art of songcraft with their creepy weed drenched musical nothingness!

Oops... in reverse/sideways order (oh who cares), here's some questions submitted to me for publication in the Redding Record-Searchlite...

8. You have 3 CDs of original music currently available on the internet.  Describe your latest recording project.

My newest CD tentatively titled "Another Day, Another Dollop", has become a rather gargantuan project.  If most standard CDs of 10 to 12 songs are an artistic postcard of sorts, my latest CD will be a colossal mural painted on the side of Mount Everest.  It has contains a wide variety of musical and lyrical themes that are interwoven in and out of more than 50 songs.  I play almost all of the instruments.  Along with many aural surprises, the CD features some spoken word passages performed by my father, Pops Buckra.  It will be a triple CD (at least) and should be released in the spring of 2009.

9. How many songs have you written and how many shows have you played?

I have written approximately 2,000 songs and performed nearly 3,000 shows.  I won't get into how many guitar solos, prizes, busted fake finger nails or gallons of vodka that adds up to.

10. In all of the years you've played music, what would be some of your highlights?

Working with and/or meeting some of my musical heroes like Albert King, Brian Wilson, John Lee Hooker, Nat Adderly, Johnny Winter, Dizzy Gillespie, Alvin Lee, Mose Allison, Leon Russell and Albert Collins were all pretty thrilling.  Trading guitar licks on stage with Albert Collins and Albert King was unbelievable.  And reading that I was one of Albert King's favorite guitar players was amazing.  But I'd have to say, singing "Danny Boy" 37 times in a row on St. Patrick's Day for barkeep Bill at the Clover Club in Redding was my highest of highlights!
