AMESTIGON - SON OF ALL SUNS - CD [PRE-ORDER]
RELEASE DATE: January 2010
GENRE: BLACK METAL
RELEASE DATE:
Finally, after more than 15 years of haunting existence, Amestigon releases its first full length album. Various EP's and contributions to split-CDs bridged the long wait for the eagerly anticipated Black Metal masterpiece "Sun of all Suns." As suggested above, Amestigon stands for pure Austrian Black Metal art. Thematically the album is located between the occult and ethics of cruelty, sociopathy and abuse. On this mission Amestigon is supported by Summonings Silenius and Albin Julius himself as guest musicians. Be aware to dive into a world of penetrating pain...Comes in nice digipak and 8-page booklet.

APOPTOSE - BANNWALD - CD $17.49 RELEASE DATE: February 2010.
GENRE: DARK AMBIENT On
a Friday in September many years ago three girls went into a large
forest in northern Germany. They never returned. Apoptose followed
their path into the woods and listened closely to the voices whispering
among the trees. The new album "Bannwald" reflects the girls' journey
to a realm of witchcraft, fairy-tales and ancient goddesses. Here in
the green twilight of rustling leafs and crackling twigs nothing is as
it seems and reality is covered by a thick layer of autumn foliage. The
German term "Bannwald" bears a double meaning: On one hand it stands
for a protected woodland where nobody is allowed to cut trees or even
to enter. On the other hand "Bann" is an ancient word for ban or spell.
After the urban nightmares of the last CD "Schattenmädchen" Apoptose
come back to the northern wilderness once more - the home of their very
first album "Nordland". This time with extended lineup: Those who had
the chance to attend one of the rare live performances already know the
voice of singer Silke and the enormous rhythms of the 15 drummers of
the Fanfarenzug Leipzig. On "Bannwald" they join forces again to invoke
the spirits of moss-covered stones and hidden glades. Needless to say,
this CD comes in an outstandingly designed multiple-panel foldout cover
featuring an 8-page booklet and a separate cardboard CD sleeve. Running
Time: 51 min.
BLOOD AXIS/ANDREW KING - THE DREAM/FRÖLEICHEN SO WELL WIR - 7" $12.99
RELEASE DATE: January 2010 GENRE: NEOFOLK
Limited edition of 500. The
first new track by Blood Axis after many years, here sharing a 7" with
the English ballad singer and radical traditionalist Andrew King. The
unifying theme of this release is the poetry of the German Middle Ages.
Blood Axis interprets a startlingly modern existential lament by the
Minnesinger Walther von der Vogelweide (12th-13th century), who is
considered to be the most important German-speaking poet of the period.
Andrew King interprets a tortured love song by the Austrian figure
Oswald von Wolkenstein (14th-15th century). Both lyricists can be seen
as examples of a distinctive and long-enduring southern Germanic
courtly poetic tradition. Unique to each track is the fact that the
modern artists are presenting songs in the original
"Mittelhochdeutsch," or Middle High German, the language spoken during
the time of the Hohenstaufen emperors and an ancestor of modern German.
It is fascinating to hear how well both interpreters are able to
pronounce this difficult old language, and how closely their own music
suits these painfully romantic lyrics from other times and places. An
outstanding release that shows how it is possible to work with
tradition in a way that is both illuminating and entertaining. The
cover features the famous medieval portraits of the poets Walther and
Oswald, and a detailed insert sheet provides the original lyrics along
with faithful translations into modern English by Michael Moynihan.
CHANGES - LAMENT - CD $17.49 RELEASE DATE: January 2010
GENRE: NEOFOLK From
Changes' inception, R. N. Taylor and Nicholas Tesluk have woven bardic
tales of gallantry, chivalry and of larger-than-life legendary and
mythical heroes. They've sung of new love, love unrequited and love
lost. They've written songs painting sonic imagery foretelling a dark
apocalyptic future, which later came to pass while currently
prophesying a society in the seminal stages of an even darker fate.
With their new album, Lament, they turn their gaze inward, to their own
personal apocalypses, stemming from their long marriages ending in
dismal dissolution. They tell of their dark, oppressive inner-world
that sought to drive them beyond the brink of despair. Only by being
able to immerse themselves in their art and create works expressing
these sorrows would they be able to maintain their sanity. Lament
reaches out to all who've had their lives disrupted by modern societal
partners going through mid-life crises, becoming antagonistic strangers
to their families overnight. The song entitled "The Invisible Man"
tells a tale based on H. G. Wells' novel with a personal twist. In
their song "Emily", the historical figure of poetess Emily Dickinson
comes to life. The "Mountains of Sorrow (Remix)", is an instrumental
song enhanced by the deft arrangement, musicians and singers of Der
Blutharsch with a voice-over by R. N. Taylor of his heart-rending lyric
poetry. Also included, new versions of three of Changes' earlier works;
"The Saddest Thing", "Sweet Eve" and "Memorabilia" as these songs
merged well with the album's concept. Lament is sixty-four minutes in
length with thirteen tracks. Comes in nice Digipak with a sixteen page
liner booklet.
GENOCIDE ORGAN - LECHINENLINIE 1989/2009 - CD $17.49 RELEASE DATE: January 2010
GENRE: INDUSTRIAL, POWER ELECTRONICS 20
years have passed since :Leichenlinie: was released the first time, and
10 years since it was released the second time as CD accompanied with
the :Truth Will Make You Free: album. And now it shines here as the
totally remastered 20 year anniversary edition. Completed with 2
additional tracks recorded around the same time and formerly released
on the Monochrome Meditator MC only (SSSM/Japan 1991). This material
stands for one of the most wanted records in this genre for all times.
:Leichenlinie: remains as an outstanding release in the German post
industrial music genre. The well-balanced music contains power
electronic rhythm based tracks as well as dark drowning ambient pieces
with haunting samples. Tracks like Klaus Barbie, Mind Control and Come
Orgasm are played on various stations, parties and radios for the last
20 years. The two additional tracks, so far unknown to the majority,
are fitting perfectly to the line-up of the early industrial-rhythm
driven sound of the band. The CD version comes in a nice spot varnished
digipak with the logo debossed on the front cover, similar to
:In-Konflikt:. Genocide Organ was founded in 1985. :Leichenlinie: was a
compilation of G.O. material recorded between 1987-1989 at
Strebelwerk/Mannheim. Originally released in 1989 as Tesco 001,
:Leichenlinie: is still an outstanding milestone in European "post
industrial" music as it let loose new creative energy of a genre which
was thought to be dead. The socio-political criticism, and
cultural-terrorist approach is inherent. A document of its time! The
opening opus of the bands restless striving for more depth in a shallow
reality, in a society that likes to hide the unpleasant and
controversial sides of life. The phrase "noli me tangere" is no longer
in effect!
**The
LP version, limited to 291 copies, announced here one week ago by Tesco
Germany without any advance notice to us, sold out in a matter of days
before we were able to offer pre-orders for it. Tesco Germany did not
reserve any copies for Tesco USA customers. I sincerely apologize for
any disappointment this causes!**
POST SCRIPTVM - GREY EMINENCE - CD $17.49 RELEASE DATE: January 2010
GENRE: INDUSTRIAL, DARK AMBIENT A
fourth full-length offering from these masters of existential
necroindustrial. Grey Eminence is a meditation on the clandestine
forces laboring tirelessly to prevent humanity from achieving its
ultimate spiritual goals. Eight completely focused and meticulously
executed compositions akin to an emotionally stirring haunted carousel
ride through the vibrant, surreal and grotesque mental imagery,
netherworld of paranoid illusions, mystic transmissions, secret
rituals, somber and horrific visions of a civilization in decline. The
lethargic torpors of ebbing and flowing analog pulsations and textures,
augmented with obscure samples, acoustic string and percussion
instruments alternate with violent hailstorms of rusted scrap metal,
moans of apocalyptic machinery and serpentine invocations. Mastered by
Andreas Wanhmann of Fir§t Law. Founded in New York City in 1999, Post
Scriptvm creates bleak electronic music spanning a variety of
post-industrial genres and described by the reviewers as concertedly
dreamlike, mesmerizing, claustrophobic, and disturbing. Post Scriptvm's
releases possess the emotional dynamics of a manic-depressive disorder.
The compositions flow from eerie, hypnotizing death ambient structures
to the visceral intensity of industrial noise, invoking surreal,
Kafkaesque mental imagery as well as an overwhelming anguish of
metaphysical horror. Post Scriptvm released material via various labels
in the USA, Italy, France and Germany. The project is best known for
their releases on Jerome Nougaillons (Propergol) label Hermetique and
the most recent, critically acclaimed album "Raspad", out on Tesco
Organization, as well as their well-received live performances at
several industrial music festivals in USA and in Europe.
SONNE HAGAL - JORDANSFROST - LP $19.99 RELEASE DATE: January 2010
GENRE: NEOFOLK Finally
available as vinyl version in an limited edition of 500 only. SONNE
HAGAL's second full-time album once more bestows the listener with a
journey into the unknown realms of poetry, mysteries and enthralling
melodies. Closely connected to Europa's folk-music tradition and the
Northern mysteries, the band develops song structures that reach from
simple traditional arrangements to complex compositions. The songs,
performed in German and English, reveal rediscovered poems as well as
self-written lyrics. They tell about simple campfire stories,
mythological or surreal matters. The atmosphere of the songs varies
from intimate, quiet parts to fresher, lighthearted and lively sounds
up to heavy distorted parts supported by real or electronic drums. Each
song unfolds its own universe, interconnected by the central idea of
"Jordansfrost": the constant changing between light and darkness, the
seasons or even life and death themselves. A number of well-known
international artists supports the band in their intention to create
more than just music: a whole philosophy. Amongst others you'll find:
Of The Wand And The Moon (DK), Waldteufel (US), Ernte (GER), Lux
Interna (US), Darkwood (GER) and Black Sun Productions (CH). The cover
artwork uses exclusive paintings by Fabrice/Divine Comedy Records (FR)
and underlines the depth and beauty of these 45 minutes of German
Darkfolk.
SONNE HAGAL - LÄUTHNER - 7" $12.99 RELEASE DATE: January 2010
GENRE: NEOFOLK Limited
edition of 500. SONNE HAGAL releases with this new 7" vinyl single yet
another black pearl in European Neofolk history. Two intimate songs of
silent beauty and subtle energy. Once more expects the listener both,
traditional English poetry as well as self-written lyrics, shrouded in
enchanting melodies. Supported by Matt Howden the single draws a bow
between the last LP and the coming new album. Presented in a beautiful
art nouveau-like artwork this single will pleasure all your senses.
this releases underlines the outstanding format of the German neofolk
outfit.
THO-SO-AA - IDENTITY - CD $17.49 RELEASE DATE: February 2010
GENRE: DARK AMBIENT We
are proud to announce the long awaited ambient-masterpiece identify by
Tho-So-Aa. After 7 years of development Tho-So-aa was finally ready to
present this release. This is the German outfit most complex and dense
album. Some of the tracks may show you with threatening collages and
experimental loops, how close the difference between freedom and prison
is. Other tracks are surrounded by melancholic soundscapes and dark
bass-drones inspired by desperation and totally sadness. In the past
years Lutz Rach spent working with sounds to create this thick layers
and drones that have never surfaced in his music before. This is no
longer pure dark ambient music, it is enriched by industrial sounds
experimental use of classical instruments voice samples and an overall
laying cry against isolation. The dark soundscapes expose a very
cynical point of view on our sick society, it describes the unknown
pressure to identify with yourself! The wait was worth it, with this
THO-SO-AA delivers his to date masterpiece. After 49 minutes, Identify
lets you alone in your silly live, with the cognition: You are 75%
dead. IDENTIFY NOW!

DER BLUTHARSCH - FLYING HIGH! - CD $19.99 DER BLUTHARSCH - FLYING HIGH! - LPx2 $39.99 “Flying
High!” with this psychedelic combat cry, one of the most eccentric and
innovative projects from Austria returns. On their ninth studio album,
Der Blutharsch continues travelling in the direction they took back in
2005, when the former guru of martial industrial/military pop, Albin
Julius, and his band, rocketed towards the deep space of psychedelia.
One of the most controversial bands of the last decade staked its claim
anew, totally breaking with old images, clichés and tunes. Having
already started on the last album “The Philosopher’s Stone,” the walls
of guitars and repetitive chants are recognizable. Flying High!
transforms this into a programmatic climax. If you start thinking Sunn
O))), Guru Guru, Amon Dül, Tangerine Dream or Godspeed You! Black
Emperor you are not to far away, but most of the apocalyptic feeling
which you are already used to is still inherent. Highly influenced by
the American west coast sound of the late sixties with small doses of
that which some people used to call Krautrock. The tracks develop into
each other, ambient parts followed by ecstatic deathrock songs and then
they glide into a wall of sound. The guest parts on the vocal side are
full of well known artists: besides Bain Wolfkind and Albin Julius or
Gianni Serusi, you discover 1980s legend Patrick Leagas who celebrates
the title song in his typical distinctive manner. Flying High! is a
dark record, it mixes eros and deathwish, productivity with
destructivity. Since the release of “When Did Wonderland End?,” Der
Blutharsch have mutated into a psychedelic rock monster; their motto,
“into new territories!;” their symbol for this mutation, a battle
fought not by marching but by flying, “Flying High!” Flying High! is a
weird trip for blown minds through the dark worlds of today’s society,
passing love, hate and lust during its journey into the center of the
sun! The CD comes in a stunning foil blocked digipak, painted with
glow-in-the-dark ink, covered in a neatly-designed folder.

The co-founder of the genre known as Industrial Music currently resides in an underground compound in Denver, Colorado, leading the life of a recluse. He has no girlfriends, no pets, no computer, and no cell phone. Though truly, this artist needs no introduction. “Boyd Rice could be the next John F. Kennedy or Jesus Christ. BOYD RICE - STANDING IN TWO CIRCLES - BOOK $22.95 STANDING IN TWO CIRCLES is the first definitive and comprehensive compendium of the works of Boyd Rice, one of the most provocative and controversial underground figures of the post-punk era. A pioneering noise musician and countercultural maven, from the late 1970s to the present Rice has worked in an array of capacities, playing the roles of: musician, performer, artist, photographer, essayist, interviewer, editor, occult researcher, filmmaker, actor, orator, deejay, gallery curator and tiki bar designer, among others. First coming to prominence as an avant-garde audio experimentalist (recording under the moniker NON), Rice was a seminal founder of the first wave of industrial music in the late 1970s. In the 1980s, through collaborations with Re/Search Publications, Rice further established his position in underground with recountings of his uproarious pranks and the promotion of “incredibly strange” cult films and “industrial” culture. Rice’s influence on subculture was further exerted through his vanguard exhibition of found photographs and readymade thrift store art, as well as his adamant endorsements of outsider music, tiki culture and bygone pop culture in general. Rice is also notorious for his public associations with nefarious figures both infamous and obscure, including friendships and ideological collusions with the likes of cult leader Charles Manson and Church Of Satan founder Anton LaVey, among others. His work continues to profoundly affect the countercultural underground at large, inspiring and enraging in equal measure. STANDING IN TWO CIRCLES contains: Essays 1986–2007: Over 30 provocative essays, many previously unpublished, on subjects ranging from Mondo Films to Charles Manson, Savitri Devi to the Hellfire Club, Cocktail Culture to African Atrocities, and from Abraxas to Rape. Of the 33 essays contained herein, 11 appear here for the first time ever. Of the remaining 22 previously published texts contained in this volume, most are revised, updated and expanded from their original versions. Lyrics: The complete words to the Boyd Rice recording catalogue, including such CDs as: Music, Martinis & Misanthropy, In The Shadow Of The Sword, Hatesville!, God & Beast, Wolf Pact, and Alarm Agents. 17 years worth of Rice’s albums, EPs, singles, collaborations and compilation cuts, the vast majority of which have never before been published, and are printed here for the first time. Art & Photography: A collection of 40 original plates, including Experimental Photographs, Fetish Photographs, Documentary Photographs, Manipulated Halftones and Abstract Paintings, most never before published. GENRE: INDUSTRIAL, POPPY DER BLUTHARSCH - EVERYTHING IS ALRIGHT! - LP $23.99 Limited vinyl release of the latest collection from Der Blutharsch. AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER! GENOCIDE ORGAN - LIVE IN JAPAN 2003/2007 - DVD/CD $28.99 Finally, this long awaited document will be available in AUGUST! Japan has been a wasteland for German "industrial" and/or "power electronics" bands for many years, but in 2003, Genocide Organ entered the motherland of noise. Invited by Teito and MSBR, Genocide Organ played two remarkable shows in Tokyo. The first in a typical noise/hardcore club called 20000V, and the second at a small theatre called Die Pratze. Because of the two different locations and atmospheres, G.O. prepared two completely different sets. While the material at 20000V featured tracks from what was, at the time, the forthcoming album "In-Konflikt," plus a selection of powerful, well-known tracks, the setlist at Die Pratze featured more "calm" and unreleased tracks integrated into a theatrical-type performance. Both gigs represent the repertoire of Genocide Organ, which makes this band more than just a phenomenon of one genre. The two shows are presented here on DVD in their entirety, edited from three different camera angles by Frank Merten of Seismic Wave Factory, known for the visuals of Herbst9 and Land:Fire. The DVD is professionally mastered and features a fully animated menu. In 2007, Genocide Organ returned to Tokyo for two more shows, both hosted at 20000V, and again, each show had a different setlist. The audio CD in this collection features a selection of the best tracks from both evenings. Many had never been released or played live before, while some "old favorites" appear here in completely different versions. The quality of the recording is amazing, and you will feel the full power of these two gigs. This DVD/CD set is part of the GO RECON UNIT program - all those who order with their RECON CARD number will get special extras with their set. Those who have no ID card are able to get the card now in order to receive extras with future releases. AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER! GENOCIDE ORGAN - LIVE IN JAPAN 2007 - LP $26.99 Available for pre-order now expected in August! This numbered, limited edition LP features the best tracks from two G.O. Tokyo performances in 2007. The record comes housed in a gatefold cover with printed inner sleeve and contains an A2 poster. GENRE: INDUSTRIAL, NOISE, POWER ELECTRONICS JEROME DEPPE AND GENTLEMEN OBSCURA - SHOWTUNES FOR THE DAMNED - CD-R/BOOK $14.00 From the Judas Kiss review by Simon Collins http://monkeyhouse-recordings.co.uk/JK2CMS/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1530&Itemid=30 Showtunes For The Damned is the fourth solo album from Baltimore-based musician Jerome Deppe. In addition to being a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, and playing guitar for David E. Williams as well as recording his own music, Jerome is a painter and photographer, and Showtunes… is a multi-media showcase for his plethora of talents. The CD-R of music is only half the story here – the disc comes housed in a glossy, full-colour, 146-page graphic novel with an elegantly textured black card cover. Against a background of grainy, halftoned and pixellated photos, collages and multi-media assemblages, the lyrics of the album’s tracks are presented in comic-book form, as narrative and dialogue. The songs don’t appear to form a coherent storyline (although there are certain recurring themes), so really this is a lyric book, but it would be equally possible to regard the CD as the soundtrack to the book. For any record label, this would be a sumptuous and costly presentation – the fact that this is self-released makes it a truly remarkable labour of love. Jerome’s first album, The Absence Of Light, was an entirely solo performance, aside from some ‘guest caterwauling’ provided by his son Hayden, but for Showtunes…, Jerome has assembled an impressive array of guest musicians, including Lloyd James of Naevus, David E. Williams, Drew Raison, Thomas Nöla of …Et Son Orchestre renown, and several members of the Deppe family. This certainly helps to add richness and variety to the music of Showtunes…, but right from the outset, it’s obvious that Jerome’s songwriting has taken a quantum leap forward from his promising but rather one-dimensional debut. Showtunes… contains 15 tracks, totalling 64 minutes of playing time. The album took three years to create – unsurprising when you consider that the book had to be illustrated in addition to recording all of the songs – and Jerome apparently got impatient, releasing a five-song EP of the same name as a precursor to the album. The album opens with the lugubrious ‘Purgatory For Dummies’, which displays the same kind of 80s influences – Joy Division, The Cure, Wire – that were so prominent on The Absence Of Light, though some ripping, discordant live guitar from guest musician Timothy McCade adds a little grit to the smooth synth progressions. Thomas Nöla contributes some of the vocals here. The next song, ‘Charisma’, is much more rock-inflected, with fuzz guitar power chords and snare drum rolls blasting out imperiously over a montage of babbling voices, although again, the song seems suffused with 80s influences, this time post-punk bands such as Pére Ubu and Hüsker Dü. The whole of Showtunes…, in fact, uses a lot more guitar than The Absence Of Light, which was dominated by keyboards. ‘Rose Madder (Again)’ is a slow, gorgeous ballad of picked guitar and orchestral string backing, with flat, processed vocals adding an air of remoteness and alienation to the mordant lyrics: Like the scars on my face, Read the cold mind of God The razor brings comfort and kills all the pain… What does God really know? ‘Salvation The Lesson’ is a vocal duet led off by Lloyd James. With strummed guitar and Lloyd’s distinctive deadpan intoning of wordy lyrics like ‘Your ignorance is my infatuation,’ this could easily be mistaken for a Naevus song, although there’s also a tremolo guitar solo. The pictures accompanying this song in the book are an unsettling blend of religious imagery (Christ, the Pope) with pictures of Hitler and fascist salutes, a combination which also crops up on one of the most intriguing songs on Showtunes…, ‘The Revelation Of John’, which throws in Goebbels, Himmler, Rudolf Hess, the Virgin Mary, Malcolm X, Charles Manson and members of the Manson Family for good measure, in a queasy, minatory apocalyptic pot-pourri. The song also uses samples of Manson diatribes and Third Reich speeches, set against a thick, bass-heavy rock backing which evolves from a kind of twisted take on the well-known cabaret standard ‘Is That All There Is?’ (a showtune for the damned indeed) into a monastic chant floating over rumbling bass. ‘Misanthropic Love Song’ opens with dense, drony industrial ambient and swooping guitar chords, a solitary piano picking out a wistful melody that cuts through the barrage of sound, before developing into a febrile piece of goth-pop with a heavy nod to The Cure, and indeed David E. Williams songs like ‘Sarah’s Booted Boy’. David E. Williams himself puts in an appearance on the final track, ‘Poison Mushrooms’, sha-la-laing away in the background like Rose McDowall. The Reverend Jim Jones (of Jonestown infamy) appears in the accompanying visuals, as well as in chilling dialogue samples on the track, the song ending on the line, ‘We have been so terribly betrayed,’ as cold synth tones whoop and hiss in the background. Showtunes Of The Damned is a tour-de-force of dark pop, rising above the gravitational pull of its obvious 80s industrial, goth and post-punk influences to offer a stark, unflinching commentary on living in the end-times. As the images in the graphic novel seem ensnared and locked into place by tangles of undergrowth and linear meshes, grids and matrices of brickwork, girders and chains, so the human protagonists of these sad vignettes seem locked into futile activities, destructive addictions and obsessive thought patterns, ruled over by dictators, demagogues, angels and demons. It’s not a pretty picture of the human condition, but it’s about as much as we deserve. The bad news is that there are only 50 signed and numbered copies of this package available direct from the artist. It’s certainly possible to imagine a label picking this album up and re-releasing it, but it’s more doubtful that anyone is going to be willing to replicate this book and CD package in all its lavish glory. The good news is that an online version of Showtunes For The Damned is in preparation, so more than 50 people will be able to enjoy this superlative work. Another Jerome Deppe album, Sad Ugly Songs About Sad Ugly People, is currently in progress. GENRE: POPPY, NEOFOLK PRURIENT - ROSE PILLAR - BOOK/11" LP $85.00 180-Page Hardcover Book with 11" LP. Limited edition of 500. What separates Dominick Fernow’s Prurient project from the rest of the contemporary underground cannon is its unyielding personal subject matter. From the inception of Prurient the concept has always utilized intimate details, photographs, letters and other ephemera culled from places where most artists would choose to obscure. Prurient draws these details into focus more than ever on Rose Pillar, a 180-page hardbound book of Fernow’s collage work and text supplied by his mother Jean Feraca from her previously published memoir I Hear Voices. Feraca tells the story of the death of Stephen, the brilliant but troubled older brother, an anthropologist who was adopted into a Sioux tribe. Feraca’s text is juxtaposed with Fernow’s collages of fallen empires, plant-life and industrial decline. The imagery presented is both stoic yet strangely profound and revealing as an analogy of death. Rose Pillar also contains an 11” vinyl LP containing new material from Prurient that is the most profound and fully-realized work of his career. Prurient is not about an attack but rather a cry for help. Prurient takes the listener to the ends of human emotion as the range of sounds swell as the light of life fades. The climax of the album is the track “spins the worlds wheel again” which contains the most densely melodic frozen drone ever contained on a Prurient recording. What’s evidenced in these recordings is a sense of loss and destruction that can’t be replaced. The sound feels more like an erosion of steady decline, ebb and flow, storms, power controlled and power unleashed. This multimedia project pries deeply through the depths of mourning on both a personal and societal scale. In conversation Prurient has exclaimed Rose Pillar to be the end of an era in both function and material. This is Prurient taken to its furthest and most satisfyingly complete conclusion. Nothing will be the same after this release as this is the ultimate result of Prurient’s process. Finality is a recurring theme with Rose Pillar and that says more than anything. GENRE: EXPERIMENTAL, NOISE, DARK AMBIENT SIDE A: 1 - custer claims his arrow 2 - yellow trumpets grow in darkness 3 - gardener of the broken arm SIDE B: 4 - hammer with forty names* 5 - spins the worlds wheel again 6 - tractor replaces the horse * *Featuring Kevin Drumm SIEBEN [MATT HOWDEN] - AS THEY SHOULD SOUND - CD $18.99 The latest Sieben album now in stock! "This is not a best-of. Though some are the best of what's gone before. This is as they should sound. Songs honed live by hundreds on concerts. Washed, dirtied, recorded fresh. Calibrated, loosened. Double-distilled. Tightened, trimmed and unleashed. No fat, no flab. Violin and voice. As they should sound. And that's about right. This album release symbolises an end for me, a summing-up of my best work so far. The best it has even been captured in the studio for sure. And a departure: I'm after a new sound with the next album, and a new feel. Though it will still be trade-mark loop and violin layers. I just wanted a final go at the songs that I've honed and developed over the years- that the audience at live shows have also had an effect on the song's character. Each time I play live, I feel what works, what drags, what thrills, and what does not. And the smart artist takes this information home, and shapes their tools accordingly. This is the case with these songs" (Matt Howden / Sieben) Sieben is the one of the many projects of the musical artist Matt Howden. Matt Howden has worked as producer, songwriter, session musician, and score composer. He currently lives in Sheffield, UK. Whilst Sieben is his most well known creation, he has been a colloborator with The Raindogs (Portugal), Sol Invictus (UK), Tony Wakeford (UK), L’Orchestra Noir (UK), L’Ame Immortelle (AT), Emilie Autumn (USA), Faith & The Muse (USA), Of The Wand And Then Moon (DK), Larsen (IT), Chris Eckman (USA), Spiritual Front (IT), Shock Headed Peters (UK), Hekate (DE), Job Karma (PL), The Mystery School (USA) HaWthorn (UK) and many others. He releases neoclassical music under his own name. Matt’s main instrument is violin and he is entirely self-taught. The story goes that, at 18, he was given a friend’s grandfather’s violin and then alienated friends and family over a two year period, finally unleashing himself upon an unsuspecting public in the streets of Newark, Lincoln and Grantham. He moved to Sheffield in 1986 and was part of the vibrant music scene in Sheffield playing in The Glass Hammers, Pig64, Yonni, and Stiki. Sieben exists because of the I-Ching. Matt was given a reading by a friend which told him to make music he wanted to, not the music he thought people would like. This lead to Matt to release himself into a fully solo career, which indulged and channelled his fantasy and passion into violin and voice. The premise and spirit of Sieben is layers – layers of instrument and voice that hypnotically draws you into a world of emotion. Lyrically, the themes shift and change from album to album, but are linked by the same sense of dissonance – the smooth, superficially melodious voice belies the dark, quick, twisted stories. Intelligent, quirky use of metaphor and archaic language is set against a backdrop of texture rich music. The central place of the violin and Howden's unusual way of playing it give's Sieben a distinct sound which makes comparison difficult. Whilst, Seiben is frequently classified as neofolk, goth & experimental the music, and the man, could be as well described as alternative, indie, beautiful, brilliant, melancholy freak folk ....the list goes on. Definitively Sieben, and Matt Howden, are best described as unique and must see live." GENRE: NEOCLASSICAL THOMAS WATKISS - ANCESTOR - PHASE I SILENCE - LPx2 $16.00 THOMAS WATKISS - ANCESTOR - PHASE I SILENCE - CD $12.00 From the Heathen Harvest review of the CD version by TraXteR http://www.heathenharvest.com/article.php?story=20080828064159936 If you take a look in the inner right-hand panel toward the bottom of the digipak that contains “Ancestor” you will find the words: “Phase 1: Silence is dedicated to the memory of Sitting Bull”. Now we’ve tied in the title… Thomas Watkiss has created an extraordinary album. Not only because it is so well composed, or because it is sonically diversified, unique, and methodically arranged… What I feel is the best quality of this album is that it is true to its purpose, and rich in its integrity. Listen closely and it is easy to realize that this offering was indeed made with love. So many of the tracks on Phase 1 are true to their presentation, and a good example of this is that the sounds often times are a musical reinterpretation of the title. The opening track, “Heat Of Dead Earth” uses what sounds like a highly filtered subtractive synth to harmonize with whatever mental picture one may conjure from the songs name. So does the arpegiated synth bleep series contained in “Locusts” (think early Kraftwerk, or the early Fairlight sequencers, courtesy of the late, great Robert Moog). The entire work is highly atmospheric, dark, but yielding. The tracks are solid because their emotional quality is brought out by the adequately layered structure presented. Even the most minimal of tracks, such as “Silence/Fall” and “Silver Heathen Symbol” are not boring, but contemplative. This album tells a story, and the interpretation of its close is unexpected but definitely where it belongs. The second to final track, “Extinct” became my favorite as it is as doom-laden as the title, but true the albums own method. An undulating and panning synth wave is slowly swallowed almost completely whole by a heavy guitar passage not unlike something Adrian Belew could spit out. Every subtle, tiny little nuance of Mr. Watkiss’s chord strikes comes across in the mix, which is consistently clean throughout the entire work. This is an album of high caliber, and those who do check it out and like it can also look forward to the release of Phase II: Machine, which is currently in the works. It is a noble tribute, one that brings an awareness of a legacy, but is also a reminder of a dying culture, torn to shreds by the avarice of the United States government. Oppression and racism may have been a force of doom to a tragic extent for Native Americans, but it is incredible to know that there are great people like Mr. Watkiss who can provide such an effective and strong voice for the slaughtered tribes... GENRE: EXPERIMENTAL, DARK AMBIENT THOMAS WATKISS - ANCESTOR EP - 7" $6.00 From Dusted Magazine http://www.dustedmagazine.com/features/757 Pieces of expansive, frigid death ambient from experimental composer and musician Watkiss, recorded in Sweden and the U.S. “Ancestor” plays as a theme to score underwater salvage, exposing listeners to the untold dangers of the deep using feedback, tape collage, and what sounds like bowed metal. Similar themes play out on the B-side, where clinical performance aligns with a sense of darkness and mystery. 500 copies, black vinyl, full color sleeve.
