Earwax Records is an 16 year old Music Store. Earwax started first from the Love of Music. In the early 80's music distribution was very much different than what we have today. It was hard to find Hip Hop music. Earwax started as a place to find your favorite music on cassette. We started catering to DJs with our vinyl selection.
Over the years, Earwax was the place to go for music, hard to find music, new music, classic music, videos, local news, international news, sports news, OPINIONS, event information, great conversation, good looking customers, Jasz, Shabazz, Stacy, DJ Boom Bip, Boogie, Talib, DJ Random, Kamaul, Kool Kila and sometimes Woo.
Earwax was a promotional stop if you were a music artist coming to Atlanta. You name it they were here and we have the pictures to prove it! When Outkast released Stankonia, Earwax was the first store on the Planet to have it on sale. Thanks Outkast - Thanks Atlanta
Earwax started in ATL with our first location at 1052 Peachtree St back in 1993. Earwax was a brainstorm idea from minds of the team at Nationtime Productions a casual mid 80's ATL Hip Hop Promotion Movement.
Earwax was "Forced" to move in 2003 to make way for the ATL Club "Visions". Initially part of the Vision, soon removed in the 11.9th hour.
Earwax moved to 565 Spring St Atlanta. Where the music tradition continued. Tough to park, bu as usual Earwax branded the block with our style. During this time we saw our greatest growth with music video inclusion from Jeezy, Grandaddy Souf MTV, HBO, Turner and countless hosted video shows. Countless promotions with Major and Indie Artists and Labels. - Thanks to you all!
Something about a Earwax Occupied Building and every RE Investor wants it. After another forced move Earwax attempted to reopen on Peters St, however between the cost to market with buildout, the climate of the music market, the climate of the music retail market, Earwax management decided to close the ATL retail store. A Retail Tradition No More.
But where there's a roadblock, there's an opportunity to make something new happen. And so here we are still Alive and Thriving. - Thanks For Your Support!
We always recognized that it was important to establish alternate channels of retail. Earwax launched it's online platform in 1997. We started with a weekly event newsletter and we've grown to blogs, video networks, distribution platforms both domestically and internationally.
Earwax Online specializes in Music. Our formats are Vinyl, CD's, DVD's. Our Vinyl collection includes Hip Hop, R&B, Jazz, Gospel, Pop, Rock, Movie Soundtracks, Classical. We have Vinyl from most decades. 78, 45 & 33 formats. Our Vinyl collection is not online. You will have to send us your list to the following: email us at earwax@earwaxrecords.com.
Our New Vinyl, CDs, DVDs and Games can be found at www.earwaxonline.com

We had a conversation with Bob Davis from Soul-Patrol.net recently. Anyone that knows Bob knows that he's passionate about music, particularly Soul Music. Aside from Soul Patrol, Bob also programs 2 Internet Radio Music Channels @ RadioIO.com. Bob made some interesting comments about the current changes in our societal culture that is going on with regards to music. In this current economic climate, what will happen to new music? Will people want to pay for any music? Will music have to be combined with other products and or services as promotional items? What are your thoughts?

The economic media and the finger pointers are real quick to point out that most of this financial meltdown is due to minorities and you "People's ability" to bite off more house than you could afford. You will notice that NO one is talking about these same people who lost their jobs. Companies have laid off thousands with no regard. Many of the Wall Street Big Whigs who recently lost their jobs are now feeling that pain. Did they get more house and car than they could afford? Hold your officials accountable for job creation and fair trade.

There are several things that can be done to protect your money, your 401, your insurance policies etc. Remember "CASH is KING". Stack your money and stop frivolous spending. If you really want some ideas on what you should be doing with your money, watch this video. You may want to join their list to stay current. Stay Alert with your money, there's someone who wants to take it! http://webcast.streamlogics.com/customer/weiss- group/eventid_93834649.html

A few years ago Randall Moore & Talib Shabazz graced the airwaves at WRAS Radio. There was no fulltime Hip Hop Radio. Rhythm N Vibes was that Hip Hop Show! Several of their Classic Shows are now available on Podcast. Cl*ick RhythmnVibes

Dick Gregory was on IMUS in The Mornings 106.7 Thursday Morning. Dick is one of the few that can speak on racial subjects that others whisper about behind closed doors. Hosea Williams was
another that had that ability. That "Louder Than A Bomb" ability. Sometimes Warriors Don't Have to Fight . . . They Just Have To Stand Up! Happy Birthday Mr. Gregory, who turned 76 years young on Wednesday!

We read an interesting blog from 48 Bars on a Stimulus/Bailout Proposal. They propose 1 million dollars for "Every Qualifying Citizen" of the US. By Golly This might work! It's cheaper than the 700B and would get our economy rolling. Do the math. This was interesting. Can someone get this idea to Obama or Palin? - This would be a sure win to the White House. www.48bars.com

Earwax Records . . . More than just a Music Store.

                      I'M SNITCHIN'!
The Media is to blame, not Hip-Hop

                      By Hotep

I didn't want to write this article. In fact, I've held back the temptation for the last 5 months (since Cam'ron appeared on 60 minutes). My hope was that the hypocrisy would die down quickly. But with the recent upsurge of the "Stop Snitchin" campaign in the media, I felt it necessary that I put an end to the nonsense once and for all.

It is absolutely ABSURD for anyone to insinuate that the concept of not snitchin' came from Hip-Hop. This is simply NOT TRUE. The truth is, "not snitchin" is a very deeply ingrained aspect of our nation's cultural fabric. Here are a few areas that demonstrate the No Snitchin' Code. None of them have a thing to do with Hip-Hop.

Anyone who ever watched the movie, The Godfather caught at least a glimpse of the very real ITALIAN Mafia. The Mafia was notorious for having a code of silence when dealing with the police. I can't count how many times I've heard the terms "rat" or "stool pigeon" used in Casino, Goodfellas or even the popular HBO series The Sopranos. We are all very familiar with the "no snitchin" code in this context AND the severe punishment for breaking this rule. Is the media trying to claim that these movies were purely fictional?

Right now, in elementary schools across the United States, teachers can be heard saying, "Stop tattling" or "Don't be a tattle tale" to their students. Is this some new trend started by Hip-Hop? NO! I'm sure all of us can remember being instructed to stop "ratting" on classmates at least once in our younger days.

Even children have their own "no snitchin" code. Or am I the only one who has ever had a classmate who was infamous for being a tattle tale? No one wanted to play with that child; he/she was often ostracized by his/her peers. Why does the media blame this "phenomenon" amongst our youth on Hip-Hop?

It is true, that we as Black Folk in America have had a history of avoiding contact/ communication with the police; but this is mainly out of distrust and fear. Need I remind the media of the innumerable atrocities inflicted upon us by our own "Justice Department"?

On top of that, anyone who watches Law and Order as much as I do has seen the police regularly trapping, abusing, coercing and otherwise bullying witnesses. After watching a couple episodes, even the most straight-laced citizen (Black OR White) would think twice about getting involved in a criminal case.

Yes, the thuggish, ultra-violent and misogynistic elements of American Culture have infiltrated (and now seem to dominate) the positive elements of Hip-Hop music. But let's not forget, the same is VERY TRUE of every other aspect of our society.

Over the last 20 years, video games, songs, movies and TV shows  have all suffered from a severe morale decline. Back in 1987, Nintendo's Super Mario Brothers ruled the video game world and The Cosby Show was one of the top TV programs. Compare this to the R-rated video games and the common use of the words "Ass" and "Bitch" in T.V. shows of 2007. It is plain to see that today's image of Hip-Hop is only reflecting the same changes the American macrocosm is witnessing. Why then, does Hip-Hop always seem to be the blame for our society's ills?

The media purposely distorts our perception of reality and diverts our attention from the true problem….. greed! Our country is run by CORPORATIONS, not government. These corporations practice extreme capitalism, which has no moral regulations. They did it! Their love of money is root of all their evils. They did it! They OWN & DISTRIBUTE the super-violent video games, sexually explicit songs/ movies and morally depraved TV shows that plague our minds. They did it! These corporations also own the very same media that we rely on for our daily information, which targets Hip-Hop as the scapegoat for our country's biggest problems.

Put simply, in the words of the legendary Hip-Hop group Public Enemy, "Don't believe the hype!"

                      (P.S. How's that for snitchin'?)
