So I've decided it should be a yearly practice of mine to compile these lists. Not only because of my deep passion for music, but because I personally find this type of thing interesting. And, in all honesty, I would encourage others to do something similar, if not the same thing. It's interesting to see what people's responses would be. Each selection reveals something about the person doing the selecting, whether they want it to or not. And that intrigues me. But anyhow, if you know me, you'll know music and I get along really well (it's my non-specified-gender lover. haha). And so, here are my lists for the Best of 2008.

These Lists are nowhere near perfect. There are things that shouldn't be on them (these are mostly stuck because of my love of them.). There are things that SHOULD be on here also, but aren't. Oh well.

Enjoy.

About the songs List - There are many many other amazing songs this year. And there are many other amazing songs by ALL the bands listed below. There are about 50 songs (probably more, actually) that just BARELY got cut from the list, but these 101 are the ones I felt were the best from the year as a whole, though. Whether it be the music itself, the lyrics, etc (my personal preference and the sentimental value of the song has probably had heavy influence on this also…haha. my bad), I felt that these were all of superior quality and were…the best. Yeah. (and they're ordered alphabetically by name, so there wouldn't be and question as to if they were ranked…cause they're not. Picking 101 songs to best represent the year is hard enough. Haha.) Musicians of the Year:

Craig Owens: He's the frontman of at least 3 bands at the moment, and creates his own solo music also on the side of those. (Mar. 31. I will be there even if it means my dying right afterward.). Not only did he tour most of the year with his main band, Chiodos, he worked with his two side bands, writing, and recording songs and albums for both. Cinematic Sunrise released their album earlier in the year, and then re-released it in October with a couple new tracks. Chiodos also re-released their album Bone Palace Ballet in October, adding 6 previously unheard tracks, two of them being acoustic versions of already released songs. Isles and Glaciers will be releasing their album in early 2009. These side projects, along with Chiodos, prove Craigery Owens as one of the most musically talented individuals of not only this genre of music or scene, but of our time. (I know that sounds kinda lame to say, but it's true.). The lyrical quality he puts forth, his extremely passionate and deeply heartfelt voice (see Intensity In Ten Cities). His godly scream (see 1:59 of …and Then the Liver Screamed "Help!"). His beautiful face/self. Craig Owens is as close to deity as they come on earth. (read: I am in love with him and he will someday be waiting for me in my bed when I come home. Haha. Yeah, I wish.)

Christofer Drew: He is nevershoutnever, who released the Yippee EP last July. That EP, though it be only four songs long, is so close to perfect. His voice, the lyrics. They're all so very well done, and shows poppy music at its best. Not only did he release that EP, but he is also the genius behind the band eatmewhileimhot! (now Mr Owl) who released the All My Friends EP this December. Although the styles and audience, etc, NSN and EMWIH have are completely different, both are brilliant, showing how versatile and talented Christofer Drew is. (If you need help seeing this, listen to the first twenty seconds of smellyalata (NSN) and then go to 2:30 of The Point (EMWIH). [ohhhhmy alksjdglkjasdg. That SCREAM.]). Oh and he's only 17. He's my same age, and is, like Craigery, already nearing godhood. Yeah…he's amazing. (read: also ultrafine)

Band of the Year:

The Maine
I chose the Maine as the Band of the year for several reasons. First off, at the very end of 2007 they released their first EP, The Way We Talk, which reached and held the no. 1 place on Smartpunk's CD listing, while still in high school. They recorded the entire EP in 4 days. After their EP's release, they did some DIY touring, and then, because they were still in high school, they began working on a full length. In spring of 2008 they recorded a cover of Akon's "I Wanna F*** You," which was released in April on the Punk Goes Crunk compilation. In July they released their nearly flawless full length, Can't Stop Won't Stop. They spent most of their summer touring, supporting Good Charlotte and Boys Like Girls on the Soundtrack of Your Summer Tour, and then Warped Tour after that. After that, they toured with the Academy Is… and We The Kings In the UK , after which they Toured with All Time Low and Mayday Parade for two months. And to top it off, they ended the year releasing a near perfect holiday EP, …And a Happy New Year. All this as teenagers, basically just out of high school. The Maine have accomplished in the space of about one year, what it takes other bands a few years to do. The Maine have proved themselves to be of the best quality. And besides. They're all extremely fine, and John Ohhhhh's voice? Amazing. That's all I have to say to that.

So this year's list was alot more complete and longer than last year's...which, i think is good. Haha. And if you've actually read this far...praisethelord. I love you. You may disagree on the goodness, maybe because of how long it is. Haha. But ehh. It aint no thang. (PS. i dont mind critiques or suggestions etc on what should/shouldnt be on here.)

And also, I'm proud to say I saw these last three artists live this year. And most from the above lists also. And loved every second of it.

Peace. I Love You.
