Breast Defense: Glamour Girls For Early Detection is a partnership between The Burlesque Hall of Fame and Keep A Breast, uniting top burlesque performers, pinup models and artists to raise awareness for
breast cancer prevention and treatment.

The Keep A Breast Foundation-- is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit
organization. Our mission is to help eradicate breast cancer by
exposing young people to methods of prevention, early detection and
support. Through art events, educational programs and fundraising
efforts, we seek to increase breast cancer awareness among young
people so they are better equipped to make choices and develop habits
that will benefit their long-term health and well-being.

In 2006, the Burlesque Hall of Fame relocated from Helendale,
California to Las Vegas, Nevada--in hopes of establishing a permanent,
first-rate tourist attraction and research/exhibition space for our
one-of-a-kind collection.

Justin Bond, star of John Cameron Mitchell's 'Shortbus', 2009 nominee for the GLAAD Awards and one half of Tony nominated performance duo Kiki and Herb, began writing songs while straddling a log on a mountain in Tennessee on Mayday of last year and has been touring with his band to wild acclaim and rapturous applause ever since.

"Justin Bond Rites of Spring" is a celebration in story and song of rebirth, regeneration and just plain old fashioned spring fever -and you know what that means... Combining cabaret, witchcraft, a punk attitude and neo-folk glamour this show promises tears, glitter and a rollicking good time!

Wow what an amazing 72 hours of performance and it is only the 14th of March and there are 2 more shows that haven’t even opened yet.

It is that moist time of year here in the Little Fishing Village otherwise known as Seattle, that for the last 6 years has inspired the yearly Moisture Festival of which I have been a participant of for 5. It is also the annual pilgrimage of Trixie Little and The Evil Hate Monkey to the PNW that had become the beacon of light at the end of that long grey tunnel announcing the that spring is truly on it’s way.

Wednesday was the opening night Gala for The MF at ACT and it was packed, the audience was eager and LOUD, we (Trixie, The Monkey, Kalita, and Lily Verlaine) were fashionably a little ..too… late so we missed the first 40 minutes of the show but once we got in our seats, were delighted by Godfrey, The Bobs, Sally Pepper on a Cloud Swing, The Valone Sisters working the Lyra, and yes of course the astounding NANDA debuted a new act , who never fail to bring down the house and break every heart simultaneously. The after party couldn’t help but feel like a family reunion and love fest.

Thursday night was the kick off of Burlesque shows titled “ Libertease Burlesque” which were censored out of Hales Brewery after our debut into the festival 5 years ago and why I can honestly say I was “Banned in Ballard” and as The Swedish Housewife I find that highly entertaining . As I know just about every act that was in this show I had to go back even though I should have stayed home and worked on my acts for The MF and “Through the Looking Glass” that opens March 24 at The Triple Door, I’m the Mad Hatter…

Any way the show opened with The Moistettes a bevy of hot broads working boas and bumping away beautifully, Sydni Deveraux performed her beautiful “Obama Act” that brings tears to my eyes every time I see it. Sydni has grown so much as a performer over the last year, clearly she has been working hard on her stage skills and the crowd definitely appreciated these efforts and rightly adored her. Lily Verlaine was the definition of SEXY HOTTNESS and had every man and woman sweating under the collar in her rendition of Summer Time, Trixie Little and The Evil Hate Monkey performed a double-double trapeze act that was fantastic, pompous, and excellently executed!!!!!! As Kalita was shaking her moneymaker a voice from behind commenting on her behind was heard saying “ Oh Please ….Don’t Stop !!!!”, The Bellini Twins were out of control hilarious.

God this show was great!!! And I’m not even half way through this astoundingly fabulous line up! Yikes!!!! SO not for lack of their amazingness but a desire to keep this short everyone was fantastic and at their best and I have Civic and Community Pride written up one side and down the other. Miss Indigo Blue shined with her “ Triple Fan Dance” coy, smart, teasing, classic and clever, The Aerialistas count em 10, Yes 10 hot sassy lassies all on stage at one time, seducing the ropes and creating a Cloud Swing in a most imaginative and un imaginable way, and Hell Ya! Waxie Moon dishing out “American Woman”, I really could go on and on and on and Oh yes NANDA….. There really is a reason why they use all capital letter for their name… sigh…… Across the boards The Swedish Housewife vote is in: Production Values 10, Costuming 10, Quality of Performances 10!
This is REALLY the Hottest Show in Town !GO SEE IT !!!!!!!!!!



Friday night I went to see Dina Martina’s “Cherished Chestnuts” at Re Bar now extended till April 25th and there is a reason why. I was God Smacked, Dumfounded and have sore stomach muscles from this romp down memory lane of the demented and brilliant mind of Grady West, who is currently up for the GLAAD Award- OUTSTANDING NEW YORK THEATER: OFF–OFF BROADWAY and in very good company I would like to add, Joey Arias and Basil Twist for “ Aria’s with a Twist”, Justin Bond (who I am bringing to Seattle March 29 to The Triple Door) for Lustre a Midwinter Trans-Fest , Dina Martina: Off the Charts!. I am only mentioning these three nominees as I have worked with all of them!!!

After the show I had a quick Ethiopian dinner at Habesha right around the corner from Re-Bar and it is YUMMY!!!!! Go there the food is great, the ambiance is nice, I liked the music, the crowd was sassy, only odd thing was trying to discourage the waiter from putting the cork back into the bottle after it was opened, maybe it’s a cultural thing?

Back to ACT I went for my evening fill of fanastico! I caught the end of the show and once again Fabulous!!! Fuchsia FOXXX Hotness, Ben De La Crème dishing out old school Burlesque as “Eve” and her temptations, The Heavenly Spies in a fantastic dance act with Ultra, and Boy Oh Boy !!!is it nice to see Bell Cozette on stage again!!!

There are only two more burlesque shows left in this season of the Moisture Festival so beat it on down to ACT at 7th and Union and get yourself a seat for the Hottest Show in town!!!!!

What a stellar night it was last night. This little Fishing Village was hopping with activities to the point there were two other events I cold not fit in on my dance card.
I chose to spend my evening at The Moore watching the ethereally gorgeous talent of Anthony and The Johnsons with Johanna Constantine opening up the night with some lovely stark and bold Method A Go-Go. Johanna in her wild and demented avant guard burlesque gothic ways transformed from and angel, to a bird of prey, to a one of the 4 horses of the apocalypse, quite possibly an amalgam of all four.

My friend Jared and I drank in Anthony and shed a few tears as we listened to this amazing voice of pure emotion. At one point it stuck me that he is our Joni Mitchell. The musicality was tremendous and Anthony's humor is gentle and intelligent.
He sang Beyonce's "Crazy Love" and it was fabulous, but some ass in the audience had to yell out after this loving homage " Fuck Beyonce!!!!" and Anthony very gently and firmly through existential conflict resolution retorted in a poetic fashion by speaking of gratitude appreciation and love. The ass finally got it 10 minutes later and apologized. I smiled a secret smile as I knew there would be more Beyonce in the night and that Jared would love it. We went as said our "Hello's" after the show at a very odd after party in the dank and cave like crypt of a basement with the most absurd ramp ways for a lady in four inches heels and Jared hit his head on the ducting on our way out. Why not use the nice bar in the basement for an affair like that, and keep serving drinks why don't ya?

We stumbled out the alley door and drove up to The Century Ballroom in hopes of catching Waxie Moon with Inga Ingenue and Lou Henry Hoover who were performing at The 12th Anniversary Gala and grande opening of The Tin Table.

Now I know there has been a lot of politics surrounding the purchase of this building and the tenants who have had to leave, but I have to say that the renovations are wonderful to see and in the interest of preserving architecture I have to support the change. The Odd Fellows Hall was a buzz with activity from the ground floor up. It was so exciting to see so mush diversity amongst the guests at the party. My daughter promptly found me and informed Jared and I that she had been groped by a dance partner and was trying to hide from this "ahem" gentleman. Be warned I toss a mean punch people and am not always a gentle lady. We went into the ballroom and My private joke was announced and out came Waxie Moon with Inga Ingenue ad Lou Henry Hoover doing Beyonce's "Single Ladies" and proceeded to shred the scenery. People were screaming and simply besides themselves and how could they help themselves? With that combo of talent I'm surprised the audience kept their clothes on! I have been saying it all week and I am just more convinced than ever that Seattle is the place to be right now. It has the energy of NYC in the 80's when it was still fun and not an overly jaded lifestyle boutique for the rich . Sorry New York but it is how I feel. I am grateful to be here. Johanna and I spoke a little about that after her show, she had to move to Philadelphia to get space to be the artist that she is, the artists are now starting to leave Brooklyn because they can't afford to be there any longer but this is a whole other topic.

Ever since he appeared as Joni Mitchell at the very first Wigstock in the Fabulous 80's, John Kelly has cast a spell of illusion that has continued to captivate audiences, including the subject matter herself, Joni Mitchell the poet, painter and singer. In this loving homage John Kelly the award winning and extremely gifted performance artist inhabits the persona of Joni in a very intimate 90 minute journey through song and reflections on life.

An Evening of Led Zeppelin Rock-lesque

Fourth in the Five-Show Series "Still Falling Down Memory Lane", This love letter to Led Zeppelin was created collaboratively with a cast spanning three generations of Seattle talent. Conceived and produced for the second year by The Swedish Housewife, "House of Thee UnHoly 2" promises to be a spectacle the like of which has never been seen on a Seattle stage. Those who attended last year's debut of "House of Thee UnHoly" will relish in the return of their favorite acts made bigger, better, and more lavish with the creative expansion only possible in a venue as gorgeous as The Triple Door.

With new acts and the choreographic genius of Waxie Moon, aka Marc Kenison of Seattle's Washington Theatre Ensemble, this collaborative production draws from a kaleidoscopic disciplinary range of actors, singers, musicians, and modern, ballet and burlesque dancers. The incredibly accomplished and talented cast of 21 vanguard contributors each bring a unique magic to this landmark rock-lesque extravaganza

I am so excited for this show next week, and I sure hope you can make it as we stumble down memory lane at The Triple Door next week.

This was an interesting show to book as I cast a big net by sending out e-mails to most of the performers I have worked with over the last 21 years. There have been several incarnations of the show you will see next week, many of the acts I pursued were not available for this date as they are out touring around the planet, or had planned a much needed vacation, or had family emergencies and had to cancel, but I am most satisfied with how it all came together.

You will be the first audience to see El Vez's work in progress "A Tribute To John Sex".
He is in the midsts of developing a full length one man show about the Boylesque 80's Icon John Sex, Sex was the first show I produced as The Swedish Housewife in 1987, at The Vogue on 1st Avenue.

Miss Astrid and I decided that the show should be run in chronological order and I think you will see that I have a pretty distinct esthetic that I am consistently attracted to. I see many parallels in my programing over the years and hope that the performers will see who there counter parts are, and that the newer ones will see how they are a continuum of those esthetics.

I must confess that when I book a show I am very selfish and book what thrills me. Granted I have a very diverse appetite.
I really appreciate that Dina Martina is willing to come all they way back to Seattle from her summer retreat in Provincetown to be part of this one night folly. It is rare that one gets to see her in a collective show these days, as we are so used to seeing her in her one woman extravaganzas that have literally been thrilling the world. She was quite the hit in London this spring.

For a little fishing village... Seattle has so many amazing performers and I am delighted to have the opportunity to provide a whole new crop of talented Northwest acts the pleasure of being on The Triple Door stage.
