AMVK's Berlinale 2006-2007

  • On friday 16 march 2007 two exhibitions by Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven (AMVK) will open in Berlin - at the DAAD galerie and at Galerie Barbara Thumm.

  • On Saturday 17 march 2007 BUM COLLAR play an exclusive concert in the exhibition at Galerie Barbara Thumm.

  • As of 26 march 2007 a 3-day program of AMVK films is shown at Kino Arsenal.

..ber das ICH
(Willk..r und Transzendenz)
[and a lot of fun]

The exhibition in the DAAD Galerie focuses on recent paintings, drawings and a new film.

Standpunkt

Oh, the Sick Lady / Ah, the Sick Lady
(Explodes from Within)

The exhibition in Galerie Barbara Thumm and focuses on paintings, drawings and computer films.

Chapter of Opening the Mouth of Time

Is a a non-stop digital vortex for which AMVK intercuts the images of her AntiSade Press Calendar for 2007 with 365 snapshots, more images, notes, words and things from her DAAD-residence in Berlin.
When I was about 40 I made a book, sort of an agenda, that I called "Belgian Spleen". Therein I selected thoughts and notes from the past 15 years (1975-1991). I catalogued those writings according to the days of the year they appeared to me. This I did to see if certain thoughts reoccur and evolute related to the seasons. This to find more insight in my inner chaos, where thoughts are hormonally steered, and that is not only a female reality. I know that thoughts are matter, in an other mode of existence. They transform and morph themselves with what enters as daily information, together with what reverberates in memory and thesubconscious.

That is also the reason why I repeat the words every month on the same day in "Chapter of Opening the Mouth of Time". To use the arbitrarity of language and name-giving as a nutritive element. As a living element indeed, because every time you see a word reappearing in an other context, at a likely moment in time, something moves on in the brain. That brain tries to intercept a story and a dimension that intrigues. That story and that dimension make the spectator move on. On that moment I also happen to become a spectator. Whilst working I see that this mode of operating parries every moralistic prejudice, which is right away the creative part of the venture.

"Chapter of Opening the Mouth of Time" is also available as a daily blog.

Antwerps noisekwartet geeft 'kerstconcert' in Zwitserland

..Bum Collar start waar Club Moral stopt... Versatile Styles is hun eerste cd.

This calendar contains the 12 images that I made in 2005. In the end they all became lightboxes, each of them 75 cm wide, with varying heigth. They are the continuation of the series "19 philosophical rooms". The cover image called Zerzan, shows musician Mauro Pawlowski in an interior inspired by the philosophical theories of American anarcho-primitivist Zerzan. I made the Zerzan lightbox for my show AMVK-EZFK in the Kunsthalle of Bern, Switzerland.

The images of 2005 are the continuation of the first 19. They are the hardcopy of one year in my life that began with my show in Bern. I finished the 10-year cycle of works concerning my Sex & Technology project and presented the HeadNurse-files, an extended round-up of my activities as the HeadNurse. From may till august I worked in Bruges, Belgium, on a new project: Masters of the Horizon. I invented a dialogue between Marguerite Porete, the 13th century mystic, Giordano Bruno, the 15th century hermetic and Marcuse, the 20th century philosopher. Titles of related works so far are "I'll rob you" and "Metabolism First".

2005 included also my first climb to the top of a mountain in the snow and a midsummertrip to Rome. With 9 young artists I was invited for a project in Shanghai and Xia-Men in China. In december, when I was in New York, I had the chance to speak for 30 minutes with Arthur Danto, who proclaimed in the sixties "Art is dead!"

In june DDV (Danny Devos) and I announced the end of Club Moral, our infamous independant art organisation for the extreme in Borgerhout, Belgium. The tombstone we erected contains the names of all 300 people that contributed to Club Moral projects for the 25 years that it existed. The music band Club Moral, consisting of DDV, Mauro Pawlowski and me, came to an end as well. A new band arose from its ashes: Bum Collar, same setting with writer Pol Mennes as new member.

This calendar is the first edition of The AntiSade Press. AntiSade plays an essential role in the reenlightment of each new beauty theory/strategy/therapy. AntiSade is the mirror picture of everyday progressive art. It doesn't occur in the art world as such, but under extreme circumstances it can be created.
