LUCKY BRAND LAUNCHES "LUCKY FEW" AD CAMPAIGN
Art, Creativity, and fashion merge as Lucky Brand selects 8 "Lucky" artisans.
Lucky Brand Jeans, one of the "power brands" of parent company Liz Claiborne, will launch a major marketing campaign starting October. "Lucky Few" is the sizzling title of the campaign featuring eight 'real people' carefully selected by New York based arts organization Gen Art. The four women and four men personify luck and serendipity in the ads and represent the vision of the company: "innocence, courage and fun, the embodiment of what you feel when you see or hear something that takes you". "People, in these trying times, want quality," Kristin Patrick, Lucky's vice president of marketing, told WWD. "People want to connect to something real." It's all about real people fulfilling their dream.
So Lucky Brand decided to go for hip, authentic and successful youngsters not being models. Hannah Wood, sister of actor Elijah Wood, owns an organic lip balm company called Blabbermouth. Leilani Münter, an eco-minded race-car driver who buys one acre of rain forest for every competition she enters. Musician Cory Chisel, filmmaker Dustin Lynn, painter Kris Lewis, screenwriter Jason Keller, actress Serena Reeder and photographer Hilary Hulteen.
The ads will be shown on billboards, Web banners and in the October issues of magazines such as Details, Vogue and GQ, as well as those of independent magazines like V and Fader, in which Lucky is advertising for the first time.
The Lucky Few cast includes:
Cory Chisel: Cory is a young musician who grew up in small town Wisconsin where he began his career in music singing at his church choir along side his sister. Cory's voice has been compared to the great Joe Cocker. Cory Chisel and his band, The Wandering Sons, were lucky enough to sign with RCA Records in 2007.
Dustin Lynn: Dustin, a 27-year-old film director, screenwriter, producer and photographer, was born in Oakland, Ca. Raised by a single mother, he spent most of his childhood living out of their Ford Fiesta. By age 20, Dustin had completed his first short film titled "Tranquil Music." His talents were recognized by some of the biggest, brightest, and luckiest in the industry when Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro selected this film to debut at the Tribeca Film Festival. His second film, "The Halfway Tree" won a Director's Choice Award at Filmstock International UK and was an official selection of Gen Art's Los Angeles IGNITE! in 2005.
Kris Lewis: This 29-year-old painter grew up on the Jersey Shore along side his 8 siblings. Kris' father luckily provided him with the artistic gene along with inspiration but it was his mother who taught him the importance of hard work and dedication as he watched her raise him and his siblings. Kris studied illustration at The University of Philadelphia. His works have been featured in galleries around the world and in publications such as Modern Painters among many others.
Jason Keller: Jason studied film and theater at Regent's College in London, England. He began his writing career as a playwright having 12 plays produced in London, Chicago, and Los Angeles. He was the recipient of a New Harmony Writing Fellowship for his first screenplay titled "Chevrolet Ballet." After this award, Jason began writing screen plays full time, writing for every major studio in Hollywood. Huge talents such as Mel Gibson, Nicolas Cage, Danny Devito, Hugh Jackman, Sean Connery, and Ewan McGregor have been lucky enough to have Jason writing for them. Currently he is writing "The Devil's Throat" for Warner Brothers Pictures with award winning director Jose Padilha and the project will begin production in 2009. He is also writing "The Tomb" for Summit Entertainment. Jason's foray into television begins with "Broken," a pilot he sold to the FX Network this year for an October shoot date. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and 7-month-old daughter.
Hannah Wood: Sister of the most famous Hobbit in the world, Elijah Wood, Hannah is the owner and creator of her own all natural, organic lip balm company, Blabbermouth. While not busy creating lip balm Hannah can be found hosting a biweekly art exhibit called "Down the Rabbit Hole" in a Hollywood bar, where any lucky local gets to view the handpicked artwork and spend the evening with Hannah and her friends.
Leilani Munter: Leilani is both a racecar driver and an environmentalist. She has competed in NASCAR Races and works as a special correspondent for NASCAR.com. In 2007 she became the fourth woman in history to compete in the Indy Pro Series. When she is not on the track, she is hosting an eco-site, Carbon Free Girl, www.carbonfreegirl.com, which is dedicated to environmental issues and clean energy. She is so passionate about this issue that she buys one acre of endangered tropical rainforest for each race she enters…maybe she does this for good luck while racing as well?
Serena Reeder: Born in Washington D.C., Serena attended the prestigious Julliard School from which she graduated in May of 2005. This lucky, gorgeous, young budding actress scored her first role only two months after graduation in "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" alongside Academy Award nominee, Terrence Howard. To channel the infamous chanteuse and original Catwoman, Eartha Kitt, would be Serena's dream role.
Hilary Hulteen: A native of Northern Cali fornia, Hillary at age 18 was a young photographer living in a junkyard in Berlin, Germany. A life of adventure spanning the following two years led her back to school at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. As luck would have it, she got a gig as a tour photographer for the gypsy punk band, Gogol Bordello. From there she would go on to photograph many other rock bands, even becoming one of the official photographers for 2007 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Her work has been published in Anthem, AP (Alternative Press) Magazine, among others.
