Did anyone catch the Simpsons Sunday night? I usually don't watch TV of my own accord, but I was over at my sister's when it was on, and I'm so glad. The whole episode was an homage to Two For the Road! One of my absolute favourite Audrey films, so beautiful. While they didn't get the rights to the film's music, the soundtrack on the show was very Mancini, and very true to the feel of the film. It was interesting to see the Simpson's family history worked into the TFTR story, and I like how they still kept some of the imagery from the film, especially the ending. If you missed it, or would like to see it again, you can view the full episode on Hulu (link goes straight to the episode). I'm not sure how long it will be up, since I'm fairly new to American websites sharing TV shows (I usually have to use these crazy Chinese sites), but if it goes off or you need to look it up elsewhere for any reason, the episode is called "Dangerous Curves."
Speaking of the film, though, when I was looking for a picture to post, since I'm lagging and haven't posted any of my own yet, I found an album called "Two For the Road" by the producer of Nouvelle Vague, a favourite of mine. The album has the same basic feel of the film, charting a couple's relationship emotionally and geographically, though with modern music. They made a video for the title track, and it's all footage from the 1967 film. So even if the style of music isn't your cup of tea, just enjoy the visuals.
Two for the Road
I really wish my copy wasn't in storage right now! I'd love to watch this again.

Bad news for those of you who feel that My Fair Lady was perfect the first time 'round on film: it is definitely being remade, and Keira Knightley is definitely going to play Eliza Doolittle. According to The Telegraph, Keira is officially signed to the movie and has already begun singing lessons (though it's yet to show up on her IMDb page, the film is currently in development with a release date of 2010). Also, it seems that Daniel Day-Lewis will fill Rex Harrison's rather large slippers as Professor Henry Higgins -- at least, if the producers get their wish. He's at the top of their short list of actors for the role, though there's no word on whether he's signed yet.
Now that it's official, what do you think as Audrey fans? There have been whispers that remaking an Audrey Hepburn film is a sort of curse to an actress's career, since Audrey is held in such high regard by the public and filmmakers. Will this hurt Keira's career, or push her closer to the top of the heap? You can read more about the casting and possible directors here, if you're curious.

If you missed it the first time around, here's part one of the costume tips. I've found even more great items to put together a really fantastic Audrey Hepburn or Holly Golightly costume, so keep reading!
1. Opera gloves. How could you forget opera gloves? If you'd really like to look classy, try to find some above the elbow length gloves, which make for a more formal, elegant look. I've found some beautiful satin gloves in a vast array of colours, so you can do black for Holly Golightly or white/cream for a Princess Ann or Eliza Doolittle look.
 2. Ballet flats. You can pair pretty much everything with ballet flats and automatically be 50% cuter. Works well with any little black dress and is a more comfortable alternative to heels, especially if you're going to be on your feet all night. Paired with some capris or skinny pants, it looks more stylish and put together than sneakers but not as fancy as heels would. They were Audrey's shoe of choice throughout her life!
 3. Little black dresses. Earlier I had left you on your own by telling you to hit the pavement and shop around at local boutiques. Wasn't very helpful, was it? After lots of scouring, I've found a few little black dresses that happen to be affordable and the perfect Audrey style. You can either do a shorter, knee-length dress for a more casual affair, or I've found a longer formal gown if you really wanted to go all out and do the beginning credits Holly Golightly with pearls, updo and a cup of coffee (which I am completely leaving up to you to find).
  4. Pearls. I honestly don't know if anyone makes an exact replica of Audrey's multi-strand pearl necklace with the rhinestone pendant, but I did happen to find a set that could easily be "hacked" into what you want. This set comes with a 54" pearl strand and a 20", along with a removable rhinestone pendant that's pretty close to what you're looking for. All you would have to do is wrap the longer strand around your neck twice, making it nearly as short as the 20" strand. Pin the pendant front and center and voila! Instant Holly Golightly.5. Cigarette holder. I don't know about you, but I know quite a few people (myself included) that have been looking for a cigarette holder for ages! Today I've found two that would suit Audrey Hepburn equally well. The first is an extra long gold ciggie holder, just like the one she waves around at her out of control party in Breakfast at Tiffany's. The second is a smaller, black holder, and may be a bit easier to handle in crowded situations. It's also the sort of ciggie holder she used in real life. *Bonus* To go along with your fabulous cigarette holder, you can also have fake cigarettes that smoke like the real thing!6. Skinny black pants and a turtleneck. Who says you have to be Holly Golightly to be Audrey Hepburn? Thanks to the exposure of the Gap commercials last year, pretty much everyone knows that an all black beatnik outfit with white socks and black loafers equals a funky dancing Audrey Hepburn as Jo Stockton. This costume is so versatile and comfortable it will quickly become a wardrobe staple. You can find more pictures of Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly here, and pictures of Audrey as Jo Stockton in Funny Face here.
You can also find all of the accessories listed above, plus the items mentioned in the first costume post, here.

It's that time of year again ... Halloween! And I've noticed that a lot of people have been searching for an Audrey Hepburn costume, so here's everything you need all in one convenient post. Since most women tend to do Holly Golightly as an easily recognizable Audrey costume, most of these tips are Breakfast at Tiffany's oriented. The film was recently voted the most stylish film of all time, so it's hard to go wrong as Holly Golightly!
1. The hair. A lot of people think that Audrey's iconic "pineapple 'do," that massive updo from the beginning of Breakfast at Tiffany's, is almost impossible to do by yourself. But this step-by-step tutorial shows that it's actually quite easy and possible for almost any hair length. You might need a lot of hair pins and hairspray, especially if your hair tends to be fine, but it's definitely achievable. Ask a friend for help if you have trouble; what friend could resist dressing you up as Audrey Hepburn?
 2. The makeup. Recently makeup artist askmemakeup posted a video tutorial on how to do Holly Golightly's makeup. It's very good and true to Audrey Hepburn's real makeup both on and offset, so whether you're doing Holly or Audrey you're in good hands with this video.
3. The accessories. What's an Audrey Hepburn costume without a tiara? And not just any old tiara will do, my dear. Luckily, Tiaratown offers very good replicas of some of Audrey's most iconic jewelry pieces, from Breakfast at Tiffany's to My Fair Lady, and even Funny Face. Available in both gold and silver finishes, these tiaras and necklaces are beautiful enough to wear anytime, not just on Halloween.
Sunglasses. You can't be Audrey Hepburn without some fabulous, oversized sunglasses now, can you? Audrey's top choice in shades were the iconic Ray-Ban Wayfarers, but they may be out of your price range for the time being. Not to worry, though! The Wayfarers are so enduringly popular that they've spawned tons of knockoffs, all much more affordable and all still good looking. You can get good knockoffs starting at $8.99, if you know where to look.
*Bonus: While you may not feel comfortable parading around in nothing but a men's tuxedo shirt and an outrageous sleep mask in the middle of autumn, you can still get an excellent replica of Holly Golightly's sleep mask, made by Fred Flare. You know, for personal use. ;)

4. The dress. If you're very crafty, you could sew your own dress, but you'd probably have to either make your own pattern or modify an existing one to get what you want. If you're not so crafty, or you're just running out of time, then it's probably just easier to buy a dress off the rack. It's completely up to you whether you want to go long and formal or do an easier little black dress, but shop around before deciding! Remember that Audrey was known for simple and elegant LBDs, so less is always more. Try to stick with knee-length, maybe with a nice boatneck, since that was Audrey's preferred neckline. Any local boutique should have what you're looking for.

But if all this is too much work for you, there is a pre-packaged Holly Golightly costume with your name on it.
This number comes with the hat, dress, and gloves, leaving you to supply only the handbag and some shoes. And I'm pretty sure you have at least one black handbag and one pair of black shoes laying around!
Well, that should be everything you need. If I've forgotten something or you have any further questions, please feel free to leave a comment and I'll be happy to help. Have fun!

Christie's broke records and made international headlines when Audrey Hepburn's most famous little black dress, the iconic black column dress from the opening scenes of Breakfast at Tiffany's, sold for an unheard of £467,200 on December 5 of last year. This year, Christie's hopes to induce another bidding frenzy by auctioning off yet another classic Breakfast at Tiffany's dress at the end of the month. The dress going up for sale on May 30 in New York is Holly's cute little pink cocktail dress, worn in a pivotal scene in the film. Worth noting in this auction is the fact that, unlike the black dress auctioned last December, this pink dress was actually worn by Audrey in the film and possibly even afterward for publicity photos. This dress is expected to fetch between $20,000-30,000. You can read the details for yourself here on the Christie's website (though if you somehow haven't seen Breakfast before, please don't read the Lot Notes at the bottom of the page because it does contain spoilers).
Also for sale in this particular auction is an early Sabrina publicity photo, signed by Audrey herself. The photo is expected to go for $500-700.
A rare photograph of Audrey taken in Switzerland in the 1950s taken by photographer Sanford Roth, expected to sell for $600-800.
A Cecil Beaton sketch of Eliza Doolittle from My Fair Lady, signed. Expected to sell for $1,500-2,500.
Another rare photo of Audrey, this time holding her Yorkshire Terrier Mr. Famous. Estimated at $600-800.
And finally, a large batch of various costumes, including a dress made for Audrey for her role in Love Among Thieves (no picture available). The group is expected to sell for $1,000-1,500.
You can read more about the pink dress going to auction here.

And finally, I'd like to give a huge thank you to faithful reader Franklin. He always seems to find the best news, especially concerning auctions, before I can find them! So thank you and your sharp eyes, Franklin.

If you are in the Washington, D.C. area or plan to be between now and the end of September, you may want to make a detour to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Why? Because the enormous yellow Tiffany diamond, worn only twice in its history, will be on display! You can finally see, up close and personal -- barring the glass and security alarms -- the 128 carat gem that Audrey Hepburn was lucky enough to wear. You may remember from an earlier post that Audrey was one of two people to ever wear this priceless stone, and that it was remounted in a custom-made necklace for her publicity photos. Tiffany & Co. was kind enough to loan the diamond to the Smithsonian institute, and you can see it, along with the Hope Diamond and some other iconic gems, through September 23. For more information on the Tiffany diamond and the Smithsonian display, click here.

There's a new fashion exhibit coming to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in September that's all about the golden age of modern fashion: 1947-1957, the ten year span when fashion went from war utilitarian to post-war lushness. While it seems that the exhibit will feature mostly Dior pieces, Givenchy's pieces will be on display. Specifically, a replica of the bright blue cape Audrey Hepburn wore in Funny Face will be shown, along with fashion portraits by Cecil Beaton and Richard Avedon (and perhaps some Audrey portraits?). You can read more about the exhibit and the designers that will be featured here, and The Independent has another article that goes more into fashion in general during that period.
Lucky London, they're having all the Audrey luck lately!

While the British Film Institute's new free digital archive isn't open to the public yet (that's March 14), a reporter for This Is London got to try out the new kiosk and briefly mentions Audrey's screentest. It's apparently a silent clip, though in colour, and it doesn't sound like she was very good. The phrase "wildly overacting" was used. Still, it's neat to read about, and for you Audrey fans in the UK, especially the London area, this article will give you a good idea of what to expect -- and where to go -- when the kiosk is open and you want to see the clip for yourself.
