Current mood:  curious
Well, there have been some strange developments over the last few days.

You'd never believe who turned up... The humans I used to live with.

Yup, that's right. After more than six weeks of living with Scott and Luci there suddenly was a knock at the door. And it turns out they were living just a few doors down! Another neighbor had a conversation with them and somehow one thing led to another and they thought I might be..., well... me.

Now that could all be wonderful news, of course: dream come true, all parties involved happy and all that good stuff. But I'm kind of leery right now, why in all these weeks they didn't come looking for me or responded to the flyers sporting this large yet, in my opinion, rather unflattering (with all the pained expression and such) photo of me. And just as mysterious: why am I still living with Jarmo, Kater and their humans? Though I'm not complaining about the food and lodging right now. After all, I pretty much rule this house .. and I get to eat whenever I wake up and mosey on over to my very own food bowl.

Anyway, I'm sure you're dying to know what will happen next. So I'll keep you posted.

Anxiously awaiting further developments,
Boxer!

PS: Scott and Luci have yet another houseguest. This time it's Ralf Poerschke from Germany. He's here to run in the NY Marathon on Sunday. I wish him luck. Not only is he not allergic to cats (so I..m allowed in my old room, though as I already explained by now the whole apartment is mine) - he also brought this incredible cat nip pillow. Those Germans get some good shit. Probably because it's all decriminalized over there.

Current mood:  optimistic
Hey Kittens!

I KNOOOOOOW! Can you believe I haven't blogged in a week?

You might have thought kicking me out of my room so Luci's mom could have her own room while she was in town would have been enough... but OH NO... while the humans were frolicking all over this state enjoying culture, nature and, judging by the bags, a sick amount of shopping and each others company in general - Luci (just because SHE took a few days off) put her laptop on a high shelf which I could in no way reach - broken hip or not.

So now I've got all this information penned up inside that I've been needing to share for days. So much for the Vaiting around!

First the vet:
The nice lady doctor from the 5th Avenue Cat Clinic finally got word from the radiologist about my hip and leg: things are healing!
The best news in all of this is that my leg is still in its socket (duh, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to move it) - just doesn't seem that the socket is exactly where it used to be before the accident. So I'll probably always walk in a, shall I say, cool, no even better, hip unique sort of way (get it? "hip" - LOL - ahhh, I crack myself up).
The other news was about my nerve. Looks like there's been some damage to the main nerve in the leg. But even that appears to be healing slowly. It might take months - but one thing is for sure: I AM KEEPING MY LEG! That's right: no more snip-snip for me!!!

Now a bit more about the Visit:
So the humans left Kater, Jarmo and myself unattended a lot last week while exploring New York State. That part was fun. I pretty much took over every special place in the house - including the litter box --> eat my dust, Kater.
But I was a bit concerned when I heard about a particular trip they took... to the Catskills. Cats-kills? Are you crazy? What's with that? Is that some kind of Halloween joke? Someone should check into this. Now, obviously I can't do that - with my hip and all. Oh, yeah, the doctor said I need a lot more rest. Which is why Jarmo's nest with the stuffed snake is all mine to snuggle in now. Hey, I'm a bit handicapped, alright?

A little something about the $$$
With the last visit to the vet and the new x-rays I have officially passed the 1000-Dollar-Kitty mark. Yeah, some people would probably call those humans crazy for having shelled out that kind of money. Well, from what I understand they've got some kind of a system where they pay it all in promises and swipes of plastic cards. But there are a bunch of good humans (and some cats - Gainesville Felines: Holler!) who don't think they're crazy and have helped tremendously through their contribution. So far $430 have been donated. You are all very wonderful and generous!

Now, one of you just have to come and adopt me...

Alright, now that I have my room back (Gute Reise, nice German lady) and I'm all caught up on my blogging, I think I'll go ahead and sprawl out on my very own bed for some well-deserved hip healing.

Sniff you later,
Boxer!

What a ruckus!

All day long the humans have been vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, doing laundry, washing windows, rearranging... they've made such a mess of the house that at some point Lynch and I both found refuge on the bed without even having realized the other was there. Actually, it turned out to be quite a bonding experience - both of us shedding hair all over the humans freshly laundered clothes and sheets. Teaches them to leave fluffy piles of clothes laying around instead of hanging them up right away.

So what's all the excitement about? Luci's mom is flying in from Hamburg, Germany, tomorrow morning. Apparently that's a lot more important than a good all day sleep on a rainy day. I hear Mutti hasn't been in New York for 5 years. So I guess it's a big deal. And the humans really like her and are all excited. I also hear she's allergic to cats. Say what? That whole cat allergy thing is in my opinion just people trying to get out of adopting me or one of my feline friends, is what I'm thinking.

But you won't believe what Scott and Luci decided to do! After all this crazy cleaning (what's with that chemically fake citrus smell, humans?) they locked me out of my room. They said it's the guest room and it's all for Mutti! Unreal. Now I've got to slum it with the other two cats in the rest of the apartment. What kind of a prince doesn't have his own room. I have to put more effort into getting Kater & Jarmo to abandon one of the rooms and make it all mine.

Yes, tomorrow, I'll start taking over the bedroom exclusively.

Oh, cat nap coming on againzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

No, it wasn't fun. I tell you that much.

But going to the 5th Avenue Cat Clinic had its perks. For one, I saw Kyle's cats in the lobby. They're lodging there right now while he's macking his pad. I hope he makes it worth their while, you know get them a new 3 level scratch post, for example. We didn't really get to hang out but it was still a pleasure... those felines are beautious. Meow!

Now, to the vet. More pulling of the leg, pushing of the foot. A shot, sedation, an x-ray. I'm still waiting to hear the results from the x-ray. But the vet seemed rather encouraged about my foot. She said I could feel deep pain (oh, you're telling me huh?) but no superficial pain. The nerves might come back after all. Massage might help. Which is what Jen had said, too, who's an editor of "Cat House" on HBO - a show I should probably check out sometime since I'm totally living in a cat house here now. It really is getting kinda crowded now that we're three cats trying to sleep in bed with the two humans at night. I gotta get Jarmo & Lynch to sleep in the living room. Hm, I better think of a plan.

Anyway. The vet also said that the hip might be healing by itself. She did recommend though I should be immoblized more. Back in the box? Yeah, NO, I don't think so. You try that sometimes. Silly idea.

She does think I'll always walk funny. I prefer to think of it as unique and cool, of course. That's what you'll have to tell all your friends who might want to invite me to live with them, too. Most importantly, it doesn't look like I'll lose my leg. About time someone finally said that. They did have me a bit freaked out about it. Typical human though to act like it's no big deal. Them with their two legs, they think: oh, cat with three legs? What's the big deal, he'll still have one more than me. They're just jealous.

But the last word has not been spoken. I'll keep you updated on the x-ray results when I get them.

Last but not least, we all had a pretty sleepless night last night. For one because no one got any food since I was going to get sedated this morning. But also because Luci was working on an application for fiscal sponsorship for a documentary that is clearly not about me (I saw some of the footage - just boring humans, figures). Now, why this stuff always happens so last minute that everyone has to stay up all night I just don't understand. Of course, I also don't understand why humans sleep 8 hours in a row and then stay up for 16 when it makes a lot more sense to sleep 16 times throughout the day and night for however long it feels good.

Oh, man, I hear the heavenly sound of a can of cat food being opened. Gotta run, haven't eaten in like EVER!

Bon Appetit,
Boxer!

Meeeeeooooowwww... ah, that was a good stretch!

You guessed right. I've pretty much taken over the apartment of those two cats, Kater and Jarmo, and their humans.

First I licked their cardboard scratch post and slobbered all over the catnip-stuffed mouse, then I climbed the scratch post and made that my home for a while, next the couch and hey, while I was at it I went right for the bed, you know, which one: the holiest of holy. The place all cats fight over. The realm of sleeping humans. At first I was going to curl up in the stuffed snake (Jarmo's spot) but then I thought why slow down now and took Kater's favorite place... leaning against the pillows and overlooking several rooms of the apartment. My little kingdom.

Yeah, I bet you were wondering why I don't feel entitled to be called King. You know, not that there's anything wrong with King, but it does sound a little old. And considering that I'm the youngest and hippest cat in the whole building (yeah, Jamaica and Matilda, chew on that!) I felt Prince was more appropriate.

Oh, are the old guys putting up a fight? Well, Lynch throws a few hissing-fits here and there and Jarmo's hit me on the head - but I think they'll eventually figure out how special I am. I mean at least there's the pity factor. Because no matter how fast I run around this apartment, cleaning out everyone's food bowl and making a mess of other cats' litter boxes, I do still limp a lot and am to be treated gently. You better believe I'll be using that for a long time...

Ahh, time for a nap. I think I'm going to try out Jarmo's snake now. And then I'll need to eat some more. Lynch told me there won't be any food after midnight because I have to get sedated tomorrow at the vet's for the x-ray. I'm not quite sure if he's trying to mess with my head though. He seems a sneaky one.

Have a nice nap,
Boxer!

Check out these photos that I found on the laptop earlier today.

While I was slowly taking over the humans' bed, Lynch Kater snuck into my room and drank out of MY water bowl. Can you believe it?

Like, what's wrong with his water, huh? It's probably because he has to share that bowl with Jarmo. And even I've notice a bit of a breath on that fellow.

Alright, I think I need to go sniff around Lynch's food bowl now.

First of all: THE BOX IS GONE.

Yup, they finally got right of that silly big Tupperware box. Since no one could convince me to stay the whole 4 weeks in the box they finally figured that they might as well take it out of the room.

But then I overheard the humans earlier today saying that once they take me to the vet this week they might find out that I need to have surgery after all - and that would probably mean another box sentence.

It's not clear yet if it'll be the $3000+ pelvis re-alignment surgery or the $800 leg amputation (Animal Kind offered to give them a deal on the later - they're not able to do the more complicated pelvis surgery). Now, of course I'd prefer to get my pelvis re-aligned. But for one an expensive specialist will have to do that. Though the real deciding factor is if my leg and foot can be saved at all. If I truly have nerve damage - there might not be anything that can be done...

But don't panic. There are plenty of cats that are doing alright with only three legs. It'll just take some adjustment time. And it's not very pretty. Which might make it very difficult to find someone to adopt me...

I'll just keep hoping for the best.

I'll let you know,

Boxer!

Hello my Friends.

Snow Blown (not a fellow feline surprisingly enough) just added me and that makes her my 80th friend. Wow. I feel so special. Thank you.

And I've also received a bunch of donations. So far you generous humans have donated $295. That's almost half of the vet bill so far. Thank you so very much. You all are very kind.

I know - you hadn't read from me in a while. And maybe you were one of the cats that were concerned for my well-being during these days of silence. But no worries I'm actually doing quite well.

The catch is, I don't have my own computer yet - and Luci's been taking her laptop to her job at Hip Hop Hold'em every day. So I couldn't write for a few days - but learned a lot more about poker...

Lately, I've been walking around a lot. Well, okay, I kind of limp and drag my foot. I wonder if the foot will ever straighten out...

But that doesn't keep me from exploring (especially the other cats' food bowl).  I love slobbering all over the big guys' card board scratch pad. Maybe I'll get one of my own one of these days...? Hello?

Oh, and catching flies. That's one of the most fun activities. Now, I haven't actually caught one - since it's a bit difficult to jump up and all - but hey, the "journey is the goal" or something like that. Trying to catch anything is most of the fun. The flavor of flies is totally overrated anyway.

And you know what else is new? I have my own two-step pedastal at one of the windows. All weekend I've been lounging on my black throne checking out the Brooklyn crowds pass by.

It's a cat's life, I tell ya.

Catch you later (I'll be able to jump again soon, I can feel it),

So once you're off the couch there really is no holding you back. I've been venturing around the room and (when no one was looking) into the rest of the apartment and lo and behold guess what I found... a little fluffy mouse filled with catnip. Ahhh, I had almost forgot how wonderful... [drool... drool... drool].

Huh? What? Oh, right. blog writing. So yeah, I efficiently licked that mouse all over and then rubbed my face on it and inhaled and got cat nip smell all over myself and i rolled around and i inhaled some more and [drool... drool... drool]...

oh, right. So the humans let me have the mouse back in my room on the couch. Apparently they still don't think it's a good idea for me to be walking around since I'm dragging my left foot and am probably not helping my pelvis with all that activity. Now that I've got cat nip back in my life I can hang out on the couch all day again. Hmmmm... that smell...

The big ol' cats don't seem to be into catnip as much. They can be so lame. Oh, you know what Kater did today? Hah, you wouldn't believe it. A squirrel came in through the backyard door, climbed onto the kitchen shelf and knocked over a box of cocoa and that chocolate glaze that hardens when you poor it on ice cream (some humans get quite cat nippish over those chocolate things). And what do you think the big guy did? He just layed around and watched the squirrel browse the kitchen shelf for nuts. He didn't even get up to get a closer look. What lazy bones. Oh, the squirrel casually walked back out the back door when that human Luci happened to walk in. And Jarmo? Slept through the whole thing in the other room.

And before I forget: I can totally use the litterbox on my own now. So I don't want to hear anything about that anymore. Not one more thing.

All right, time to curl up with my mouse again and inhale... mmmmm...
