once again, youaintnopicasso.com graced our humble band with a gracious track review, this time concerning "the once-great gender debate". we have the distinct pleasure of travelling out to lexington, kentucky for a show may 9th with oh no! oh my!, the robot ate me, and the elephants at underlying themes thanks entirely to matt at YANP. we can't wait. here's an exerpt:

"On with the music! Ive youve been following YANP for some time, youll most likely remember Sure Juror as a band that Ive been pushing for a little while now. Theyre a delightful indie-pop/rock outfit from the bright and not-at-all-smelly state of New Jersey, who will be playing at the first WRFL show Im putting on. Its next Monday, May 9th at Underlying Themes in Lexington, KY! Until then, heres a demo that theyre tinkering with for their sophomore album, Smut.

MP3: Sure Juror - The Once-Great Gender Debate
The Once-Great Gender Debate is proof of synergy. Everything about this song makes me believe that things can be more than the sum of their parts. For example, theyve layered the verses so it sounds like at least three people singing; but its so close and so quiet at parts that they come together to form the sound of one beautiful voice. Similarly, the drums, guitar and violin are all good in their own capacityI mean, the intro alone is enough to win me overbut when they three come together at around the 0:45 mark, its enough to make close your eyes and grin like the town drunk. Actually, scratch what I said earlier. The Once-Great Gender Debate isnt just proof of synergy, its proof that good music still gets made."

once again, we urge you to check out this blog if you haven't yet. lots of good music, signed and unsigned. and please check out oh no! oh my!, robot ate me, and the elephants...all great and exciting bands.

up and coming bloggers The Sandwich Club from Sydney, Australia just wrote nice little column on Sure Juror. We encourage you to visit their site (www.the-sandwich-club.blogspot.com). Here's what they wrote in regards to our little group:

"As soon as you first glance at this photo of Sure Juror, you can tell that they're a band of many different characters. For starters, there appears to be one giant bearded man, two medium sized men and two midgets. I mean, they're just one talking goose short of a children's story.

Oh don't worry, I'm no fool. I understand the wacky world of optical illusions. In fact, I just eat those magic eye books up. I once finished a whole book in five minutes, that's how good I am. But anyway the point I was going to make is that Sure Juror seem to have so much diversity within the band, and it really comes through in their music. Not only can you see the range of their influences from song to song, but also within each song.

I seriously think that Sure Juror custom make songs for me. I don't know how many of you know me personally, but I have the attention span of a gnat. I can honestly say that when I'm watching TV, I look forward to the commercials. They are so bright and loud and clever and they only last 30 seconds. There's this Sea World ad that's on at the moment that is just too fantastic for words. In 30 seconds they show people surfing on dolphins, polar bears dancing, roller coasters... I get so excited I could just POP. Wow I really have a problem don't I.

So anyway, Sure Juror really appeal to me because they have so much going on in every song. There are a million different adjectives that I could use to describe each different verse, chorus, and melody, but I'm not even going to try. When one has a brain capacity that explodes while watching Sea World ads, then trying to come up with a million adjectives ain't exactly a walk in the park. I find when most bands try to have many different musical styles within the one song then it just doesn't flow too well. Sure, there are some good ideas in there, but as a whole it never really does it for me. But Sure Juror do it, and they do it well. They manage to go from punk to pop to indie rock, jumping in and out of genres so effortlessly that its music to my attention-deficient ears.

I would love to announce them as "my new favourite band", but I know it's not going to take long before I'm distracted but something newer, louder and more colourful. Either that or I'll want to run outside and chase butterflies around the garden. But for now, here are the excellent Sure Juror."

today, youaintnopicasso.com wrote a track review about a new song called "making friends has never been so easy." this is what they wrote:

"Hot off the presses, its a new demo by New Jersey band Sure Juror. Actually, its not so new if youre their myspace fan, but lets just pretend. And trust me, if they keep up this level of output, they really will be making friends easily.

MP3: Sure Juror - Making Friends Has Never Been So Easy
I get this curious feeling that Sure Juror will wind up blowing us all away. Songs like Making Friends are great in their own right, but also hint at the beginnings of something amazing. I mean, theyre already making quirky pop songs; can you imagine what theyd be able to once they really get into the swing of things? And hey, even if youre not as smitten as I am, youve got to give them credit for the lyric "and page the cell phone number of the Beast." Genius."

again, we'd like to thank 'you ain't no picasso' for taking the time to champion our band and we encourage everyone to check out their page as much as possible for great new song and video downloads and also interviews with some fantastic independent artists.

also, we'd like to thank everyone that came out to our last two shows (friday in glassboro, nj; and saturday at bryn mawr college, pa). those were probably the most fun nights we've had as a band. let's try to do it more often.

the song "making friends has never been so easy" is currently available on the latest Mass Broadcast compilation (mass-broadcast.com or myspace.com/massbroadcast) and will be included on our upcoming sophomore release, "Smut."

thanks again. midge (sure juror).

So our good friend from Exitfare has been a big supporter of the band from day 1.  He has kindly posted about us, and continues to support and promote our music.  Dany first posted about Sure Juror in early June of 2005.  Way before the masses were even aware who Sure Juror was.  And like good friends do he recently posted about us again this past month.  Sure Juror on Exitfare 24 March 2006.  This blog has become more of a thank you to Dany then it is us just showing off our popularity.  We appreciate everything everyone has done for us, and we especially appreciate Dany and his Blog for his long lasting support.

P.S.  Check out Exitfare some time...He's really got his shit together.

the kind folks at underrated magazine's blog had the following to say about sure juror (they reviewed 'sleeping pill' and 'the drive will do you good.'...

"My childhood home #6 was officially sold today, which makes me a bit nostalgic for Jersey. Bet you never thought anyone would say that last part seriously, but Jersey is fine by me. No jokes, please. I'm quite vulnerable right now. So lucky me to find a great Jersey band to post about. If the lead singer was British instead of Welsh, you'd have me!

But this is not about me. This is about Sure Juror whose debut album has gone through quite a journey and somehow has landed in my two hands. I waited to post about this album, because it's one you want to listen to many times and digest completely. While it may sound pretty lo-fi, it's intricately polished music. There's beauty in chaos, people. You will find it in Sure Juror.

I like bands that intrigue me, when I don't really get everything at first. If it's all out there for you right at the beginning, then chances are you won't keep listening. That happened with Tapes 'n Tapes for me, and this is another one to scratch your head over, until you reach that point where you realize this is quite fun, in a crazy sort of way.

But some songs are much more comprehensible than others - which keeps the trip of listening to the album a bit easier. Lyrically, it's extremely clever from a young band, with some interesting and poetic lines above some of the madness. This dichotomy is apparent in my favorite track, "Sleeping Pill (What To Do The Morning After)" is as punk inspired, as it is indie pop. At the same time. The opening vocals sound quite bizarre, but then they infuse these sweet melodies that keep you on your toes.

I've said it before, but this time I actually really mean it. Each song is completely different, perfectly exemplified by the two I will post down below. "The Drive Will Do You Good" is sweet and catchy, but a far cry from the madness on the other tracks. This can be hard for those who are all about "concept albums" and "themes." I could care less either way, if it's good, it's good.

Sure Juror is currently recording new material and I am intrigued to hear the direction they have decided to go. The currently titled Smut should be ready soon. Can't wait."

the kind folks at "you ain't no picasso" wrote the following about sure juror...

"you know that feeling you get when you stumble across a good band? it's something that just makes you feel good all over, and sometimes can restore your dwindling faith in music. Sure Juror gave me that special feeling earlier this week.
MP3: Sure Juror: The Drive Will Do You Good
I love it when genres can bleed over into one another. Sure, songs that fall squarely into one niche are just fine and dandy; but the bands who incorporate different elements into their work are the ones that usually capture my ear. Sure Juror manage to smash elements of rock with a little dash of jazz to form "The Drive Will Do You Good." Not only do they have a good little combination of drums and guitar, but they really make good use of a couple other elements. Their bass is on a constant trip around the fretboard--which actually unites the song more than you might think. Also, they've got a wonderful piano part that absolutely makes this song the gem that it is."

Firrst of all...a thank you to all of those who made it to one or more of the slew of shows we played in the past month.  No turn out is to small when it comes to our fans.  Your support does not go unwarranted.  Now for some updates.  The so called album that everyone so desperately wants will make its way to the masses by late October/early November.  It took us a while to get enough money together, but its finally going to happen.  We will continue on with regular weekend shows in the greater tri-state area.  A big one @ Fennario's in West Chester on Nov. 5th with good friends and personal favorites The Danger O's & Portable Folk Band.  sure juror's drummer Joe Sheehan has just installed his recording studio.  I believe he'll be available to start recording with in the next month or so.  I'll keep everyone up to date on its happenings as well.  I guess that means we will start on the next album one day soon too.  Once again thanks to all of you out there (you know which ones I'm looking at).  And a special thanks to Kevin Convery http://www.kevinconvery.com for all the amazing photos you've taken for us. Until next our next log-in...We love you all.
