H is for Home

I think Perry Como sang it best:

"There's no place like

Homer Price by Robert McCloskey.
Oh! by Kevin Henkes with illustrations by Laura Droznek.
My Car by Byron Barton.
Each Peach Pear Plum by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.

for the holidays."

McCloskey, Robert. Homer Price. New York: Viking Press, 1943.
If you're my age or older, you probably remember watching the film back in elementary school.

Henkes, Kevin, and Laura Dronzek. Oh! New York: Greenwillow Books, 1999.
This graceful book evokes the quiet feeling of the first snowfall of the season.

Barton, Byron. My Car. New York: Greenwillow Books, 2001.
Toddlers get a kick out of this very simple story about a guy and his car.

Ahlberg, Janet, and Allan Ahlberg. Each Peach Pear Plum: An "I Spy" Story. New York: Viking Press, 1979.
The original "I Spy" picture book always gets a big laugh in storytime. Just make sure the children are close enough to see the tiny details of the illustrations.

Going over my picks from this fall, I see that the Monks Of Doom show at Pioneertown has not yet been featured. UNACCEPTABLE!!! Hieroglyphic is the first song from the set, and is a really nice intro to what the Monks Of Doom are about. Pulsing and surging, the band weaves its weird tapestry around the unmistakably odd vocals of David Immerglück.
Perhaps one of the most underappreciated bands of the last 20 years, show the MoD some love, and check it out.
