King Tuts ...
What a great start to the year…headlining King Tuts Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow.
We arrived around 5pm at King Tuts to load in and sound check which went very well, great sound on stage through the monitors which makes a big difference to the eventual performance.
We had a bite to eat and then off for some R & R. We arrived back at King Tuts around 9:30 pm catching some of the previous bands set, which sounded great; spoke to a few old friends and family members who were hanging out having a few refreshments then upstairs to the dressing room for a few minutes before we were due to do our equipment change over.A few familier faces occupied the front rows and the flashing started…cameras that is.
We did our change over fairly quickly and the set lists were laid out, a few minutes later around 10:30 pm the intro started to the first song, Soul Swimming. We played for around 40 minutes, incorporating some familiar Beecake tunes…Catch You When You Fall, I'm Sorry, Ball of Earth among others. A couple of new songs were introduced that had recently been penned by Billy Boyd, that every band member was looking forward to playing especially B.J. who tinkled the ivories on the slower of the two, Beautiful Boy, Basically I'm Hungry being the other, both seemeed to get a very positive response.
A different approach to the start of Rip It Up seemed to go down well, this was the first time this version was played live again on the keyboard by B.J. with accompanying vocals by Billy…even the Kashaker made a brief appearance on the night to a loud cheer.
As the night went on we fed from the crowd's reactions…the better the audience the better the performance and we weren't let down. Hope we kept our side of the bargain?
The set was over in a flash…which shows how enjoyable it was for us.
Radio finished off the night, which we thought was the last song; however we could not resist the cheers from the crowd for more once we had left the stage for another song, which we obliged with Drunk. A great night, a great crowd, and a great venue what more can you ask for.
We retired to our dressing room for a small refreshment or two (water included), then had the pleasure of signing some t shirts, CD's, photographs etc for some lovely people from all over the world...then sadly said our goodbyes to a few people and off home in the bad weather to reflect on another Beecake gig, a successful one we hope!
Thank you all again who travelled and attended the gig and made it such a great night and for all the well wishers that sent us their best wishes and good luck messages prior to the gig, we very much appreciate every single one of them. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the band in whatever way over the past year or so.
