There is no term better than 'rollercoaster' to describe the strange occupation of filmmaking. At times electric and inspired, at others frustrating and demoralising. One day thriving, creative and intensely social, the next a wasteland. And as it throws up its surprises - its delights and disasters - you're left hoping that it takes you where you want to go without killing you on the way. Right now its stopped, about to climb. And the wait is excruciating. Over the past three years EgoProject Films have been giving birth to the short film 'SICK'. The project had a gestation of 2 years and came awkwardly into being on location in London in the autumn of 2005. Since then we've been carefully shaping it, and hope to have gifted it will all the attributes to perform well for its short life on the festival circuit. We are new parents and have been learning as we go. We hope it's a good film and stays true to its intentions. It has been fostered at times by many of the industry's leading affiliates, but ultimately its story is rooted in a script that I wrote back in 2003, with no idea of the journey ahead. Today I stood in a dubbing theatre in Soho's Goldcrest Post and discussed track laying for the final surround sound mix. We will follow any number of major feature films into these prized studios. Today it's obvious that as we've been shaping the film, the film's been shaping us, and we've grown up with it. We're a little way from the end of the ride, but the end is in sight. At least I think I can see it ... if I squint. Mike Rymer (writer/director)
